Nice little Camcorder with lots of features.......2006-01-25
Video Quality: 5 (16:9 on 42" plasma = approx DVD quality)
Audio Quality: 3.5 (no complaints yet)
Image Stabilizer: 3
Stills: 2 (would not use this for stills)
Expandability: 5
Included Battery: 3 (will not out last a cassette)
Features: 4
I chose this because I needed a camcorder with good video resolution in 16:9 mode. Most camcorders suffer in the 16:9 mode when compared to their 4:3 performance. Also the Optura 60 has an Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) which is superior to Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) in that it does not degrade image quality as much as EIS. However OIS does not make the picture as steady as some EIS based ones.
The audio seems fine - some have complained that motor noise surfaces in quiet conditions. The set and func button are badly placed as you can't see them when the LCD is open. Top Loading cassette system is always a winner compared to bottom loading for when you use a tripod.
Connectivity is excellent - IEEE, USB, Mic-in, A/V out, s-video out. The camcorder also does Analog-to-Digital pass through. So you can use this to convert your VHS stuff to MiniDV or directly to a computer. Works well with Mac; iMovie controls the camcorder just fine and importing video was easy. The accessory hot shoe is also an added bonus for expanding - external mics, video lamps - and the camcorder can communicate with these add-ons.
Overall, excellent value in a market where each new model year of camcorders seems to be reducing feature and functionality. Best value when you consider the $100 MIR that Canon is offering
Great little camera!.......2005-09-29
So, my main criteria for choosing a camera was compatibility with my iMac. I am a photographer, so I also like decent picture quality. Ease of operation is another plus. This camera meets all my specs.
Set up was relatively simple. Attach the strap and lens cap, pop in the memory card, attach the battery, plug it in to charge for a bit and you are ready to go.
The kit is missing a couple of things: a bigger memory card would be nice(as always is the case), and a tape would be nice. As it is, you need to go out and buy a tape before you can record. Minor detail, but slightly annoying if you were already anxiously awaiting the UPS guy so you could get started recording, a firewire would be a nice inclusion, as well.
You'll need the manual to program the time and date. The menu operation is funky and poorly designed(teeny tiny button that you push up or down to scroll and have to hit center-on to select). This is my fifth video camera in ten years, tho, and I've never spent too much time using the menu, so... I can live with it.
Software was easily installed and no problems getting video to my computer. Plug and play.
The video and sound are great. I paid a couple hundred more for my Sony DVD300 and the quality is TERRIBLE. I like that it has a night light- it isn't the most powerful, but it's something. There is a mode for low-light recording that doesn't ruin the color(you don't get that green night-vision look that all my other cameras have).
I'm not big on taking digital still photos with a video camera- I use my Nikon D70 for that, so I can't say much about that. All in all, I think this camera is a great deal for what you get. Relatively easy to use and Mac friendly.
Poor reliability. Bad service.......2005-09-07
Do an internet search on "Canon remove cassette" before you buy. This is a well known problem with all the Canon digital camcorders. AND don't rely on the Canon warranty to fix it! They will try to blame it on something the consumer did.
I got the cassette eject problem after less than two months. Canon tried to charge me $170 because they "thought" it had sand damage. After much wrangling they finally admitted it was the capstan motor. After more wrangling, they agreed to fix the capstan motor, but would not "remove any sand." I think they were trying to classify my camera problem as something other than the capstan motor. Maybe the factory service center is accumulating statistics on types of repairs and it makes Canon look better if the problem can be attributed to something the consumer did, rather than their own faulty workmanship. I've had the camera back for a week and so far it's ok. I counted nine grains of sand in the compartment where the battery goes and two grains on the lens cap. What do you expect with normal beach use? If these things are so extremely delicate Canon should not be marketing them to consumers. I've been videoing at the beach since 1991 with a Sony and I've never had any sand problems. I take good care of my electronic equipment, but Canon made me feel like some half-assed teenager, instead of the fifty-something grandmother I am. I think it was very underhanded the way they tried to make out I was at fault. I spent hours on the phone with them on my nickel. This experience has soured me on Canon. I will NEVER buy another Canon product. THEY DON'T PLAY FAIR!
Excellent........2005-04-13
After some reasearch on the different camcorders available on the market, I had no doubt that the Canon Optura 60 was the superior choice. After receiving the unit I had no problem getting set up and was snapping pictures and making videos in no time.
One feature that sets this camcorder apart from others is it's ability to take high quality 2 mega-pixel still shots, recording them to a Secure-Digital card. From my previous experience with Canon cameras it seems that they really know what they are doing in terms of digital photography and the Optura 60 continues to amaze. The camera has produced still shots that are equal or better in quality to my Olympus C-740UZ.
The video quality is excellent and it is very easy to copy your still shots and videos using USB 2.0 OR Firewire to your Windows XP PC.
Despite a complicated array of features, the camera can be very simple to use for those who just want to set everything to "AUTO", then point and shoot.
Goods:
* High res 2 mega-pixel stills stored on SD card
* Built-in flash and 14x optical zoom
* Optical image stabilization to ensure minimized "shaky hand" effect
* Easy to dump videos and stills to XP PC
* Amazingly wide array of features packed into a small sized unit
* Excellent still picture quality
* Good performance for shooting 'on the fly'
* Continuous mode for quick sequential still shots
* Can snap 640x480 still shots to SD card while recording video to tape
* More...
Bads:
* Package does not include a DV tape
* Included 16MB MMC card is far too small
* Included battery is a little short-lived
* Firewire DV cable not included
Additional items I bought:
* Pack of DV tapes
* 512MB SD Card
* High-capacity BP2L14 battery
* CB2LT battery charger, enabling charging of both batteries at once (one in camera, one in charger)
You'll also need a carrying case that snugly fits the Optura 60 and the above items.

poor service and poor quality.......2004-09-17
Buyer beware must be Pacific Digital's mantra. The USB 2.0 dvd burner I bought from them died in under six months. The burner, a lite-on, was fine it was their enclosure that failed. Their customer service was horrendous as was the shipping that I was forced to pay to receive replacement parts, which still have not arrived. If you are looking for a product that will give you reliable service and lasting performance STAY AWAY from pacific digital!!!!

Product Description
Panasonic combines innovative space-age technology with elegant styling. The high High-Contrast Picture Tube considerably improves contrast compared to conventional televisions. Crisper images, more brilliant colors and sharper focus creates a feeling of depth that will almost pull you into the picture.This white, 13" monitor is perfect for the kitchen or utility room. It may not be your primary TV, but it doesn't scrimp on quality: a high-contrast picture tube and other video-enhancing features ensure great viewing. You can either watch TV via a feed such as cable, or hook up a VCR or DVD player through the two sets of A/V jacks, one front/one rear. Conveniences include V-chip lockout to keep young people out of certain channels, an ultra-compact kitchen magnet remote control, an auto programmable channel scan and a tri-lingual menu system.
Amazon.com Product Description
Panasonic's high-contrast CT-13R42 is small enough for use in the even the tiniest bedroom, kitchen, or dormitory, and its white color blends with countertops and walls. The monaural set offers conveniences found in much larger TVs, like a trilingual onscreen display to simplify setup and front-panel audio/video inputs for hassle-free connections with a VCR, camcorder, or gaming console.
A two-line digital comb filter prevents any two lines with different colors from being processed simultaneously, minimizing any "hanging dots" in the image. FM radio reception gives you the flexibility of listening to news or music in the event you're engaged in some other activity, and there's even an earphone jack for private listening. Parental controls include game guard, which limits access to the front-panel input when necessary.
Other features include a handy remote control, auto power on, and a clock and sleep timer. Now you can wake to your favorite TV or radio news broadcast.
Customer Reviews:
Good picture, mediocre sound, fine for the kitchen.......2001-12-21
Picture quality of this 13" Panasonic TV is good, not great. If you want great, get a Sony or Toshiba. From what I have seen at the stores, the Panasonic's picture quality is approximately equivalent to an RCA, and is better than several other brands, including GE, Philips, Sharp, and Sylvania.
The audio on this TV could be better. The single small speaker positioned at the lower right on the front of the chassis does not sound as good as my previous 10" Panasonic TV. However, it does sound better than other small TVs which have their speakers on the sides.
The menu system for set-up is laid out nicely but is somewhat confusing to use due to inconsistencies in the keying for the "enter" command. Other TV brands I own (Sony, Mitsubishi) do this a lot better.
On the positive side, the Panasonic has the necessary controls for adjusting video quality, is straightforward to use (after set-up), looks attractive in a kitchen setting, and has a reasonably small foot-print. If you are looking for a small TV with a good picture, this might be the one for you.
Good Kitchen TV........2001-12-11
We have this TV in the kitchen. The white color fits in well with our all white room. The set has a good picture, and the price is right. The only negative on this TV is the sound. The audio is mono, (one speaker) so one has to crank-up the volume
if there are other sounds in the room.If the audio on this TV was in stereo, I'd give it 5 stars. Even with that said, it is a good value. It even comes with a second, smaller remote that has a magnet, so you can stick it to the fridge.

The Apple AUI series of transceivers offers the most affordable way to connect your Macintosh desktop computer or Apple printer to an Ethernet network.If your Mac has an AAUI connection, the M2, MT, and C models are by far the simplest ways to get networked. You won't have to crack open the back of your computer to install a network interface card - just use your computer's pre-installed Apple Ethernet Software by plugging a LeeNet Transceiver into the back of your computer or printer. Plug-N-Play auto-configuration means you won't have to reconfigure software because the transceivers take care of the dirty work. Each unit has a built-in LED indicating the unit's power status and the integrity of the connection. Each LeeNet Transceiver comes with a different set of ports (either BNC or RJ-45). The M2 has a port for 10Base-2 coaxial cable; the MT can be connected to a 10Base-T (twisted pair cabling); or you can obtain the flexibility of both types with the LeeNet-C model.

The Maxell 3.5 preformatted diskettes are just what I wanted. In fact I have never been disappointed with any of the merchandise I have ordered from "Amazon".I am an invalid, almost 87 years old and must do all my shopping via my computer. I made the remark to a friend that "I have been having a love affair with Amazon for quite some time." Thank you Amazon for all the help you have given me. I always go to you first when I want something. Parke C. Bogle

Customer Reviews:
Best PDA I've ever had.......2007-04-14
This PDA tops any I've ever had. Extremely long battery life, very attractive, intuitive back keys, etc. Theres also a software .prc file you could add in to turn it into a camcorder. The screen is amazing, its crisp and huge, reminds me of my PSP's screen.
Only con I can think of is it lacks a keyboard. If it had an i-phone like keyboard it would be untouchable.
** for the person whos having the slow wifi problem:
switch the wifi power save switch OFF in the prefs menu for wireless connections. It goes about 5 times as fast but sucks more power.
Still on top.......2007-01-12
It's been a while since these machines have been off the market and still there is nothing that can do it all with ease and consume so little battery power. I own a lot of PDA's and have played with a lot of others, but believe me no one tops sony. They are the Porsche of PDA's. Buy this one, the TH55 and you probably would not ever replace it. I can play MP3's and surf the web for hours at the same time and still have loads of battery life for the rest of the week. I've done several test and have gotten (with the screen off) 17 hours of MP3 playback using the sony player. And I get 5.5 hours of video playback with full back light and 7 hours with the screen at half brightness. A quick note to mention is that if anyone ever needs a new battery you can contact Sony and order a new battery. I have tried new batteries from other supplyers and they just do not last the same. So I always replace with sony parts and for this PDA sony hase supplied me with everything I have asked for so far and have offered great tech support. Hopefully I will have this machine to the end and look forward to new technology from Sony in the future
Great PDA!!.......2006-06-02
This is the best PDA i have ever owned! It is versatile, with its unique jog dial, I can select and scroll thru documents with ease, it has a long battery life - between 7 to 12 days for me, if I do not surf the net. The screen is good sized with great colors and resolution.
I am sorry that Sony does not make any more PDAS..
Good product, problems over time.......2005-11-08
I have had the PEG-TH55 for almost two years now. I have to say that it is a great product, but over time I have had some very frustrating problems.
First of all, the PROS:
- Clie Date Book is far superior to the Palms that I have owned in the past. I don't know if the latest versions compare or not.
- The organizer menu is great. I love the tabs instead of the icon driven menu. The address book allows you to add pictures of the person with the information. To Do list is also very functional, but does not integrate well with MS Outlook (I lose data).
- The Free notes are the best feature. You can freehand notes in any color. My wife uses it to draw pictures.
- Lots of extras, like the voice recorder, headphone slot, memory stick, and wireless LAN feature. It comes with an MP3 player, but you cannot use VBR files, causing the file size to be very large. The camera is a nice feature, but takes OK photos. Not very useful for preserving great memories. But that leads me into the...
CONS:
- Camera is broken and it will cost at least $140 to fix.
- The Clie Organizer for PC crashes before even starting up on any of my computers. When I tried to get help on line, I was told to reinstall the software, even though I told them I already tried to do that. They told me to try again and let them know if it worked. (It didn't.) Support is not very useful and there are no updates for any of the software.
- Wireless LAN is s - l - o - w, but functional.
BOTTOM LINE: Great features, frustrating problems in the long term, no support. I have not done much shopping for a new one, but for the price, I would look for one of the newer PDAs, such as the Palm TX. I will keep my Sony for a while, but I would not buy another one.
The best PDA? As close as you can get!.......2005-09-16
The Sony Clie PEG-TH55/U (otherwise known simply as the TH55) is my third PDA. After upgrading to the TH55 after one year with the Clie PEG-SJ22 and six months before that with the Palm Zire, I am not going to switch anytime soon. All of the features I ever wanted in a PDA are crammed into this thin package. The huge screen, tiny profile, and great memory capacity are only the beginning.
With 32 Megabytes available RAM, the TH55 does not skimp on space. The 7 MB ROM is nothing to sneeze at, either. And the processor is fast enough for almost anything - and it slows down automatically for easier tasks to save the battery. I could go on and on, but here are the key points:
* Battery life - I have run experiments, and after a week at my daily use (which averages at least two hours daily, much more than the average user) the battery never falls below 60% if I play no games or music, and it stays above 40% if I play my mp3s or my favorite games. That rivals my Zire, which has no backlight and is greyscale. My Clie PEG-SJ22, in comparison, has a smaller screen (320x320 vs. 320x480) would go down to 75% battery life in a single day.
* Screen - HiRes+. The best available so far for Palm PDAs. Great, great, great. Plus, the backlight is brighter at its lowest setting than the SJ22 at medium brightness.
* Palm OS 5.1 - Frankly, the only bonus I get out of this is the compatibility with newer games and apps, plus more HiRes apps. If the HiRes+ came with OS 4, I would be fine with that.
* Jog Wheel - After having the SJ22 with the side jog wheel, it took a few days to get used to the jog wheel and buttons on the back, but it was time well spent. The ease of use is incredible!
* Wi-Fi, Baby! - As a true geek, I love wireless gadgets. Sure, there's no bluetooth in the U.S. version, but the 802.11b wireless is great for around the house and at the local Starbucks. Sure, full-size pages get a little cramped on the screen, but there are hundreds of palm-sized pages out there for you to choose from.
------------------------
Then again there are a couple problems with the TH55, none of which is hard to fix. The two problems (with remedies) I have found are:
* Graffitti 2 - Call me nostalgic, but I got used to the original Grafitti with my other two PDAs. If Graffitti 2 were configurable (I miss the old T), that would solve all my problems. Luckily, Sony included Decuma. You can customize it fully, which makes it a heck of a lot easier to use than Graffitti 2 - which I have gotten used to, by the way.
* Power Button - The placement of the power button is unfortunate. I cannot turn the TH55 on one-handedly. There are some "hacks" to fix that, but I get along fine.
THE BOTTOM LINE: With numerous pluses (only some of which I have mentioned), and only two major problems, both with easy fixes, the Sony Clie PEG-TH55/U is definitely my favorite.
