Amazon.com Product Description

Designed with the same easy-to-use controls as Canon's PowerShot A5 and A5Zoom, the PowerShot A50 remains portable and easy to operate, but its added features provide better image quality and more speed and functionality than its predecessors.

The 1.31-megapixel CCD (charge-coupled device) and Hardware Image Processing help produce sharper images and increase the shooting speed. Features such as Night Shooting mode, Slow Shutter mode, white balance control, and exposure compensation help eliminate color irregularities and allow for a wide variety of shots. This camera also offers a 28 to 70mm-equivalent zoom lens with both wide-angle and telephoto settings.

The PowerShot A50 is Canon's first digital camera to support new industry standards for image storage and printing. Its DCF (design rule for camera filing system) format and DPOF (digital print order format) make it simple to print and transfer images between the camera and other peripherals. The PowerShot A50 comes with a rechargeable battery, power adapter, and an integrated set of Mac- and PC-compatible software; however, you have to buy the battery charger separately.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars AS PORTABLE AS IT GETS.......2001-12-04

Pros: pocket sized, sturdy aluminum clad body, largest optical zoom in the Canon Elph-based series
Cons: eats alkaline batteries, need to purchase the power pack and extra battery; better outdoors than indoors
Recommended: Yes

This digital camera fits easily into a shirt pocket, so it's as portable as it gets, and your 'best friend' on vacation. An important feature that is too often overlooked is the fact that it is aluminum clad, so dropping it won't easily result in the heartache of a broken camera that costs hundreds to be replaced immediately or a costly repair that will deprive the owner of its use for an extended period.

It's outdoor shots are excellent; its 2.5X OPTICAL zoom is the largest presently available in the Canon Elph-based repertoire of digicams; its 1.3 Megapixel resolution gives 35mm equivalent 4"x6" prints on either H-P or Epson photo printers.

The drawbacks often reported with shots taken using the internal flash are not critical; although the power of the flash is effectively limited to a range of within 10 feet, the A-50 has multiple modes that deal well with red eye reduction, fill flash, or no flash at all, to the extent of being the virtual match for any digicam list priced under "$1,000". Its controls are easy to master; its playback mode extends to a "slide show" in the LCD (which is larger than the average digicam's at 2 full inches diagonal) or on TV. The camera DOES eat batteries, so TWO batteries and the optional power pack (now readily available for under $80 with one battery, second battery about $25) is a MUST. If you upgrade to higher resolution Canon "Elph-based" digicams, you can use this battery and charger. These lithium batteries will last for up to 100 shots using the LCD as a preview and thus are good for a full day of shooting. The second battery permits full operation while the first battery is charging.

The A-50 will handle most sizes (under 200 MB) of Compact Flash Type I, and puts 161 photos on a 48 MB card. That's enough for a week's worth of vacation shots. (...)It is the BEST optical zoom 1.3 Megapixel camera on the market for ease of use, portability and versatility. Another nice feature, not found in all cameras, is a "raw mode" that permits uncompressed photos. Its JPEG compression on "best mode" does little to adversely affect the photographs, and there are a host of other features that will appeal to the more advanced photographers.

All in all, the A-50 was well designed and a good value for the money. Of course, at this time, with the advent of 3.3 Megapixel cameras, and the S-100 Digital Elph at 2.1 Megapixel with a 2X optical zoom, the A-50, at 1.3MP and its serial interface can be considered obsolete, but, at its current price, it's my choice as a gift for my preteen daughter. It's just right without spending more than necessary for someone who can use the zoom lens effectively, adapt the camera to slide shows and does not need to print anything larger than 5" X 7" photos on a color inkjet.......and if she drops this sturdy little aluminum 'tank' of a camera, I won't be out a fortune for replacement or repair!

5 out of 5 stars Canon A50 Excellent Camera, Poor support from Canon........2000-03-02

I have been waiting a long time to buy a really good digitalcamera that I can afford. I got the A50 for $399.00 plus I got a 16meg compactflash card as a bonus in addition to the 8meg card. I was surprised by the excellent pictures I get with the Canon A50. Compares to 35mm SLR cameras. Also it is very easy to setup and use. I was disappointed in the lack of support from Canon. I asked where I can find accessories online, they told me to call an 800 number and order from them. The dk110 power supply kit does not exist and I am beginning to wonder if it ever will. I have looked around for the 2cr5 battery and found a range in price from $6.95 all the way up to $19.95. So shop around. The dumb outfit that wanted $6.95 also wanted $13.95 for shipping. Average price is $9.95. Meanwhile, I won't use the LCD very much. Camera gets 5 Stars for quality, Canon gets 1 star for lack of support. I'd still recommend this camera to all inspite of Canon's poor support.

4 out of 5 stars great camera, great software.......2000-02-18

I love the camera. It's great for a snapshot camera and has some useful manual functions (flash off, exposure compensation, slow shutter). Another great feature is the Mac software that comes with it-- TimeTunnel. This is awesome. You plug in the camera (or in my case, put the CompactFlash card into a PCMCIA adapter and into the slot in my PowerBook) and upload the photos into this easy-to-use and very well designed program. You can zoom through thumbnails of all of your photos, arranged on a spiral thing which classes them by date. When you click on a thumbnail, you get all the info about it (date, shutter speed, aperture, file size, etc) and when you double click it opens the full size image. You can easily "send" any image to another program, such as the included Adobe PhotoDeluxe, or better yet, Photoshop.

I'm very happy with the camera, and the only reason it doesn't get a 5 star rating from me is that the battery charger and replacement rechargable batteries are on worldwide backorder and have been for months. This is very irresponsible of Canon and is costing me a fortune in batteries.

3 out of 5 stars Where's the Power?.......2000-02-15

The camera is excellent. You can read a hundred reviews as I have on the great job that Canon has done on the design and convience of this little guy. But don't buy it unless you can assure that you can get a rechargable battery kit with it. I've been waiting since just before Christmas to find a supplier who has one in stock (at a reasonable price). In the meantime buying batteries is eating me alive in cost! Apparently, Canon produced two-to-one the camera's to the rechargable battery packs... thus all us unsuspecting buyers got a camera and a backorder notice on the rechargables! BEWARE!

5 out of 5 stars Great SLR replacement, but get the charger, too!.......2000-01-26

I'm in love with this camera after 24 hours, and I'm glad I got the battery+charger power kit (~$80) with it. (more on that below.)

I'm a "serious amateur," experienced photographer. I got this camera to replace a dead 35mm SLR. I like that the Canon lets me over/underexpose by 2 stops, in half-stop increments, control the flash and red-eye separately, and use a slow shutter speed for motion blur.

The photos look great and are about 300K each in "best" mode. I was especially impressed when it worked the first time I took a photo, imported to Photoshop, viewed on TV, etc. It really delivers on the promise of digital photography for the average user.

I was prepared to spend $500 on a new SLR. With the power kit, the A50 is about the same $399+80+shipping).

If you can spend closer to $600, check out the Panasonic, with 3x optical zoom and dual CF card slots. In a slightly lower price range than the Canon, look at the comparable Kodak 215, a little less compact.

The non-rechargable Lithium 2CR5 batteries last less than 72 flash exposures and cost $20 each. The charger charges its included NB-5H battery in 90 minutes or less. I can't find the $40 spare NB-5H batteries anywhere--Canon dealers all have them on backorder.

Product Description

Following in the footsteps of NHT's successful SuperZero and SuperOne loudspeakers, the SuperTwo is most affordable tower speaker, offering an unprecedented level of sonic refinement at its price. Employing the midrange and tweeter from the critically acclaimed SuperOne, the SuperTwo adds a downward-firing subwoofer for truly full-range performance. This remarkable 6.5" woofer is capable of 14mm peak-to-peak excursion and delivers solid bass response to 35Hz. Designed for discriminating audio/video enthusiasts, the SuperTwo is ideal for two-channel audiophile systems and five-channel home theater systems, where it is timbrally matched to the SuperZero and SuperOne. And its small footprint makes it a sensible choice when space is a prime consideration.

If you are considering tower speakers I would recommend NHT Super Two. New modles are more money from NHT and have metal dome tweeters. This is ok, but do you really want to replace all your speakers in your home entertainment system to metal dome.{so, the speakers sound the same}.I traded NHT Super Ones and receved a new set of Super Twos for $.... Super Twos have gone down from $... range to $.... Price,5 yr warranty, and a built in down firing sub make this a good choice for your home entertainment system.

5 out of 5 stars Best speakers for the money1.......2001-06-01

These are fabulous speakers. I took a lot of time looking for top quality speakers that wouldn't break the bank and these came highly recommended. I have had them over a year now and love every movie I watch, or CD I listen to. If you're in the market, these are the ones to buy.

4 out of 5 stars Low SPL Causes Four Stars........1999-12-09

I liked the extended bass of the SuperTwo's compared to SuperOnes. While the SuperOne's

cutoff is 57Hz. the SuperTwo's cutoff at 35Hz.

I also like the piano-like shine of the black

SuperTwos.The only thing I don't like about

these speakers is the low SPL of 87.If you decide

to buy these speakers you will be pleased.I read

a review that these speakers are not packaged

in the best way so be careful not

to punch a woofer or tweeter in while opening

the package!

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Piece of S**t.......2005-11-23

Had the drive for about 8 months, using it infrequently as a second CD-RW drive to burn a disk copy directly. While using it to install a new registered copy of MS-Windows XP Professional a heard a loud "pop' about 25 minutes into the process. The damn drive had destroyed the CD, shattering it into thousands of small bits. Needless to say, The disk was worth a lot more than this cheap, crappy drive.

2 out of 5 stars Unreliable Burning, Weak Software, ZERO Support: DON'T!.......2004-04-19

Sad but true, what seemed like a great value (stacked ceiling high at Office Depot, who ought to be ashamed) turns out to be a low-rent loss leader. I'm no installation expert, but I'm not a novice either. The 1-page installation guide was almost deliberately confusing, and there's no further support, phone, online, email... none. Period.
The included Nero software (more or less - an already out-of-date 'Limited' version) tries so hard to behave like it's been packed with a grown-up product, but the drive can't match it for efficiency.
With all the failed burns this clinker has produced, the only bigger stack of useless CDs around here is stamped 'AOL' -- and this drive is catching up fast.
The latest kink: I shelled out for a couple of other CD creation software packages, but - they can't access this brand! Well no wonder -- "iRiver", the makers of the Magic Spin (a name heavy on irony) has completely divorced itself from this product line and is busy delving heavily into a line of $500 MP3 players. (I pity the fool...) So -- you'll get no reply from them on this shoddy product, and no other support of any kind is available or forthcoming.
What the heck - it does copy CD's of all kinds pretty well, and for the price, I can't complain that I was taken that badly.

But taken I was. Avoid making the same mistake.

5 out of 5 stars Worked Great For Me.......2004-03-19

I just installed this drive yesterday, replacing another drive that I had problems with from day one. I have installed a number of drives and found nothing unexpected about installing this one. After installation I was somewhat amazed at how well it worked. It reads very fast, not sure of the speed but much faster than any other CD I have had, and, with no special tweaks or shutting down of other applications I burned one CD. That burn ran at 52X from an image file. Not only did the 52X burn work but it did it to a blank CD rated 48X. I have never been able to burn a CD at the drive's rated speed before so I am more than pleased with this drive.

1 out of 5 stars horrible drive.......2003-12-03

could someone please explain to me why in the hell my drive opens and closes none stop ever since i install this horrible drive. as soon as i installed it, it started this. it finally stopped opening and closing but when it stops the door stays open. what in the world is going on with this P.O.S. product. no contact info to be found anywhere. the product does not work because the door is wide open and if you try and shut it, it starts opening and closing again. could someone tell me what is going on. thank you, michael

4 out of 5 stars Magic Spin 52x24x52 B522452.......2003-11-29

In responce to earlier comments. All of these drives come with the same instructions. There is a jumper at the back of this drive to set operation before installing. Maybe if you need a movie on how to, then you should consider having a computer shop install for you. This drive is made by a company named Top-G(Top Glory). This is my second one and haven't had any trouble out of either one. They both came with the newest version of Nero CD mastering software. I would highly recommend this drive to anyone.

      ASIN: B0000AKVAN

      Amazon.com Product Description

Panasonic's silver, 24-inch CT-24SL13 uses a Tau PureFlat picture tube, which not only looks cool compared to a conventional, bulbous screen, but also provides a high-quality, high-contrast picture--partly owing to the screen's ability to reduce reflected ambient light, but also due to the set's velocity-scan modulation technology.

Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas. The CT-24SL13's three-line comb filter further enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt).

The set's horizontal and vertical edge correction sharpens the edges of pictured objects, working in conjunction with the dynamic sharpness control and velocity modulated scan to produce clean, crisp images and reduce video noise. An onboard wideband video amplifier expands the video signal frequency response to more than 10 MHz, granting a horizontal resolution of 600 lines (maximum).

Through channel labeling, you can assign an ID of one to four characters (such as KIRO or WNET) to up to 30 different channels. This feature comes in handy when cable systems assign different channel numbers to familiar network stations. Channel banner captures information transmitted with each program and places it onscreen in a semi-transparent banner. This information includes TV station identification and the V-Chip rating for the current program.

The set provides stereo audio (with five watts per channel) from broadcast programming via Multi-channel Television Sound (MTS), which permits broadcasters to encode stereo audio within the video portion of TV programming signals. BBE High-Definition Sound improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.

A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. You can choose between two sets of rear AV inputs and a set of front AV inputs for extra convenience, as when hooking up a camcorder or gaming console. A rear audio (switchable fixed-/variable-level) output lets you hook the set up with an integrated amplifier or surround receiver. The set also features a trilingual onscreen display (English, Spanish, French), closed-caption display, V-Chip parental control, a sleep timer, auto-off, and a universal remote control.

                4 out of 5 stars Still going.......2007-06-27

I've been running my Clie now for several years and have yet to have any of the major problems others complain about. I do occasionally have to do a hard reset but that's only when I'm surfing the internet and hit a page that's far more complex than my browser can handle.

The only major drawback I've run into with this PDA is the battery life. It starts off ok when you first get it but over time, it takes longer to recharge and delivers much less power per charge. When I first got it, I had no problem running the mp3 player for an hour or two. Two months ago I was lucky if I could run more than three songs before it drained out.

But there's always hope. You can buy replacement batteries online pretty cheap these days and they last a whole lot longer than the one that comes installed.

Decent memory, expandable memory sticks, good set of onboard software and I LOVE the little jog dial. Just watch out for that battery life.

2 out of 5 stars Started crashing after a year - Sony is no help.......2007-04-19

The TJ37 is, when it's working, a pretty nice PDA. The camera is so-so, but OK as an added bonus. Don't expect anything other than a blurry, blotchy sort of pic out of it though. Battery life is mediocre at best. The stylus is actually painful to use for more than a few minutes.

On the other hand wireless works well, although it's a battery hog, making a bad situation worse. The screen is clean and bright enough. The form factor is great. I love the roller wheel.

The TJ37 uses a Sony memory stick as addon mass storage, which is a minus. SD would have been better. The screws holding the unit together backed out and disappeared, and Sony wants $$$ for them.

After a year, mine started crashing hard and the only way to get it back is with a hard reset. Even after running it with just the pre-installed apps, it still crashes. Sony wanted more to fix it than it was worth. So it sits on my pile of dead hardware while I use a Tungsten E2 and enjoy hugely better battery life, no loss of data when the battery dies (which take some doing - I can go for several weeks on the Palm, just a couple days on the Sony), and an overall better experience. Too bad the Palm doesn't have a camera, but other than that it's a better machine than the Sony for considerably less money.

                5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!.......2006-08-31

This handheld did everything I needed it to do and I would recommend it to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Best PDA Available.......2006-03-07

This is the best PDA that I have ever owned. It had everything that I wanted when i bought it.
This PDA is made very well and it is high quality. Compared to many other leading brand PDA's this is farily small for it's features. It's camera is not for printing pictures but it is good for taking camera-phone quality pictures. It's has a little speaker on the back for the various sounds it makes, but while you are using AreoPlayer (the program used to listen to MP3's) the speaker is basically useless. The speaker is so tiny that it can't get above 30 decibles. So if you are planning on using this for a MP3 Player then you will want to use headphones.
Overall this is a very good PDA and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good, small, high quality PDA.

4 out of 5 stars I traded up from an N760C...........2005-10-30

I love the TJ37. It has all the apps the average user would need, plus a few more. It comes with the regular palm os apps like datebook, to do, and memo, but also has great features like:

*aeroplayer - mp3 player. Songs are played from a memory stick, up to 128 meg (I have a 128X2 and it works just fine)
*camera - good little camera for those times when you didn't expect to need one
*clie mail - email server for pop3 and smtp
*clie memo - draw/write on it like it's an endless supply of post-it notes. Comes in handy a lot when just jotting quick notes.
*clie viewer - quickly view any pictures on your handheld or memory stick
*netfront - good little web browser for your wi-fi
*picsel viewer - to view e-books and other documents. Can be viewed either landscape or portrait, which comes in handy.

A previous review was incorrect: the TJ37 does come with a mail service (clie mail) which I have successfully linked with my outlook.

The wi-fi was the selling point for me. Unfortunately, about 9 months after purchasing it, I went to bed at night and woke up to find my clie would not turn on. It had completely drained itself. Once charged up and hot-synced to get my data back, the wifi would no longer work. Seems since I had popped the memory stick out while the unit was off, it continues to "think" it is on and drains the battery completely dead, losing all data. That erased my mac address. There is a fix on the sony site for the draining problem, but it was too late for me. My wifi no longer works through the unit. After a couple months of searching and a quote from sony for $138 just to mail it in to be looked at, I found a memory stick wireless LAN card on amazon for 50 bucks that has fixed my problem. My clie is fully functioning again with the LAN card.

As an engineer, I find that the memory on this particular unit is more than sufficient for any data files needed for third party apps. I have 2 memory sticks (128X2) full of apps that I run on this Clie and I still have 16megs left on the handheld. According to Sony, it can handle up to a 1 gig stick for data.

My only complaints would be the problem I (and others, as found on threads on the internet) have had with the wifi going dead after a battery drain and the stylus is less than useful due to it's design. As for that, carry an extra full-size.

For the price, I highly recommend this handheld.
