Options - options - options!!! This camera gives you the options you need in a nice entry level digital camera. I have used it for portrait photography, during meteor showers (pictures just needed slightly edited in Photoshop), for paranormal investigations (yep ghost hunting is a hobby), for product shots for websites and much more. It has everything you can want in a camera. Although it might be a little old (I got mine about a year ago), but if I was going to buy somebody a camera or another one for myself I would definitely choose this camera or another Canon Powershot. In fact my mother-in-law loved the pictures so much she went out and bought herself one. And she loves it too.
The only con is a slight problem it has when taking pictures of eyes. If you use the red eye reduction mode it isn't much of a problem, but without it you may get a lot of green and red hued eyes from your subjects. If you forget to set your red eye reduction mode on you may need to touch up your pictures in a photo editor.
Other than that the camera is perfect! Batteries last long (I'd say over 300-400 pictures per set of batteries - which includes a lot of looking at the screen and reviewing the pictures), their are a ton of customizable settings, the movie mode takes gorgeous movies and the pets & kids mode sure helped me when taking pictures of my new kitten. It also has everything you need in order to plug it into your TV outs and play picture shows for family and friends. Which is great when you want to show grandma some of your pictures and she doesn't have a computer.
The first major use the camera got was at the zoo and in the hands of my wife. She didn't bother to read the manual or practice. Without really kn owing what she was doing - the pictures turned out perfectly! The zoom was amazing!!! She got pictures of the animals that showed such detail as veins on the tongues of the giraffes. Dust cracks on the backs of the elephants and much more. Best part was that she was over 20 to 30 feet away from her subjects and out of harms way. Yet the pictures were so close and detailed!
One tip - get a larger memory card - 1gb or more. As with ALL digital cameras you buy these days you will need higher storage than the card they give you. I mean at the highest quality setting on this camera (7mb) - you can only take about 15 pictures before the camera card they give you is full. Save yourself the frustration and just buy a larger memory card.
For those of you interested in ghost hunting this camera is great! I'm happy to say that after extensive testing this camera doesn't show that many orbs created from dust. Some digital cameras have a hard time with dust and this one doesn't have many false positives in dusty conditions.
Practice Makes Perfect.......2007-05-13
I purchased this camera as a fill in around week two of a five week Euro-trip, and week three was a bit rusty, but by four and five the pictures were coming out well. This is because I found that the camera had a few weaknesses, but once you figure out how to control it, you can get past those pretty easily.
First, this camera does not have an electronic viewfinder. This will only affect you if you like to look through the viewfinder when taking photos instead of at the LCD. If you do, then the pictures will be slightly off center, as the viewfinder is set above the lens and the difference between the views from the two is not corrected electronically. At least I think that's the problem. I just know they're off center.
Secondly, I found that shots taken on Auto came out overexposed--too much light. I've taken to using the Manual setting for virtually every photo I take. By doing that, you can control things like the shutter speed and get shots that are better exposed. It's kind of a pain, especially if you don't want to deal with the technical aspects of photography, but I'm ok with it because it's forced me to be a better photographer in some ways.
Really, most of the problems mentioned in the reviews I've read can be fixed by using the manual controls. You can control the amount of flash emitted from the camera and you can set the shutter speed and ISO to make low light shots a little easier. Also, if you set the camera on something steady and do the two second delay (self-timer function), press the button, and don't touch the camera, it will come out very clear. If you have nowhere to set the camera, I've found success by taking continuous shots. Put it on the continuous mode or whatever it's called, and hold the button down, and it will snap for ages. Then scroll through and pick the least blurry shot out of all of them. It worked quite well for me.
Some good things... It's very good with macro shots and really picks up color quite well. You can boost the color by using the vivid color setting. Kind of nice for some shots. And the flip screen is true genius. Great for aiming those self-portraits, shots from above, and even balancing the camera somewhere if you get desperate. :) I'm also very happy with the way the pictures look when they're printed out. The mega-pixel amount is more than good enough for any amateur use.
All in all, I've been happy with this camera. It takes some getting used to, but if you're willing to work with it, it produces quality results. As you might have gathered though, it may not be the camera for the person who doesn't want to deal with manual settings and the like. It is possible that I'm just really picky, but I think it does under-perform if left to its own devices.
Save yourself some grief.......2007-05-12
I am a Canon guy. But, I am not a Canon Powershot A620 guy.
The reason: the Achilles heel of this camera is those awful, unreliable Canon AA rechargeable batteries. In fact, the whole battery configuration is unthinkably unprofessional.
I will never buy another camera that uses AA batteries. There are better ways to power a digital camera than using these things.
I have owned two Canon film cameras, a Canon printer, a Canon scanner, and two Canon digital cameras. I even have a cute little Canon gadget bag. I love most Canon products.
But, I was a total fool for giving my daughter my Canon Powershot G1. It was wonderful in all respects, including the batteries, but I had virtually worn it out. So, I treated myself to a new Canon Powershot A620
What a dark day that was. And I have had many dark days since. Days of lost photos. Photos of visiting loved ones. Photos of unique experiences, never to present themselves again. Photo Ops that will not come around again. All because of these unreliable Canon AA rechargeable batteries. I have two sets, plus a charger.
It is maddening to charge these batteries, check them with my battery tester, pop them in the Canon Powershot A620, take a few good photos, and then....
The next time I attempt to take photos, (and I love my photos), I get a message to change the batteries. It will not take another picture until I change the batteries. So, in addition to the eight expensive Canon AA rechargeable batteries and a charger, I also carry four fresh non-rechargeable AA batteries. Just in case.
The Canon Powershot A620 takes great photos. It fits nicely in your shirt pocket, if you have one. The price is right. It does everything well. Except be reliable and be ready to take that next irreplaceable photo.
I will never again buy any camera with such a battery arrangement. I have buyer's remorse big time.

good camera... .......2007-04-12
the camera is good in many perspective.. one is that it offers... a very clean cut design.. Everything works out of the box.. just pop in the battery and the memory and turn it on, press the button to take the photograph. However, the quality of the zoom is a little bit blurry.. And there is no image stabilizations.. I tried taking pictures while i was hiking up the mountain... all the images came out with motion blur.
Those images that you take when standing still and not walking.. its' quality came out great. Good pixel quality.
I didn't like the silver skin on the camera so much. I am a big fan of the color black.. And now that canon came out with powershot a640 (in black).. [...]
Disappointment.......2007-04-10
After being an amature photographer via print film, I decided to try a digital camera - though I've been leary about printing quality. I knew I couldn't afford a digital SLR, so I opted for a "snap shot" camera that I thought would have enough features to satisfy me. However, after having and using this camera for a year now, I am so disappointed in the performace- the flash is just way too much, its a washout. After being used to print and picture quality in my film SLR (Cannon, I might add), I was so severely annoyed with the quality of the pictures with this camera, I wish I would have just saved my money for a digital SLR.

Solid unit, would like to see macro functionality........2006-02-20
I've had this for three years now and have a lot of respect for the solid design and overall versatility of the unit.
I have also had to return the unit for service, due to a power hit - no fault of the Niles, I wish to make clear. I have comments on this too.
First, dislikes:
--No macro capability (well primitive). I would like to be able to pre-define a key on the touchpad, or use a shift-key function to trigger multiple events. Essentially, I need multiple macros on one source. Each macro can have as many as 12 steps. I solved this limitation by using a programmable remote that holds the key sequences. Be aware I am doing lots of programming of groups with a CD Jukebox. Using the jukebox remote is a nine step keysequence, so this is far more than just hitting play.
--One of the inputs is hardwired to be built in AM/FM tuner. I wish I could have the option to make it a switchable external input.
No optical input. In fairness, we are not doing audiophile quality here, just music thru the whole house; not that important IMO.
--Have to pick the devices you hook up to it carefully and do lots of planning. Not Niles fault here, it's the lack of standardazation in the whole AV community. There's a bunch of device codes out there and different IR signalling protocols. It makes every device a custom job and seriously hinders widespread acceptance of whole home audio IMO. I recommend using a pro installer unless you are a serious geek like me. This also means additional costs if you want to upgrade components that feed it periodically. True of all of them, I think.
Likes:
--Build/sound quality I compared to Russsound and several others, and found the engineering IMO to be overall superior. Component quality was very good and the flexibility of the unit was great. Pre-outs for several rooms as will as the ability to combine speakers from several rooms into one zone. Layout on the back has lots of options and well designed. Speaker clips are great.
--IR quality-Best darn IR transmitters/receivers I've ever seen. I have a CI solor IR behind a bunch of books and the thing still works. ANother is the MS-100 in ceiling. I can aim the remote any direction and it works. Apparently plasma TV's cause IR interference and this has the ability to avoid that as well as other forms of interference. These devices are nothing short of amazing. You should consider their IR devices if you are looking to relay IR around your home. They may seem expensive, but they work.
--Support, short hold times, toll free number. Friendly supportive tech folks who know their stuff and happy to help. What's not to love here?
Service-As mentioned before I had a power hit and it killed it along whit a bunch of other stuff. I sent it in, even though out-of-warranty and was bracing myself for a large repair bill, considering the initial cost of the unit. It was under $100. Delighted, shocked amazed... this is really one of the few companies whose support is as good as the product.
"Curb appeal"--CI solo looks good installed in the wall, the Gloria looks/feels well designed.
Versatility of inputs/outputs-- ANyting with an RCA jack is a source. Pre-outs for the study or other rooms where you want supplemental "kick".
Their stuff is not the cheapest, but it is well engineered and designed to years of use, not just until the warranty runs out. They've earned my loyalty.

I was so happy with first purchase, had to buy another just so I had two! The sound quality is higher than any I've tried. I actually need to turn volume down on my phone which is unusual. No problems so far.
A simple product but a great deal.......2007-09-01
If you are looking for a simple cell phone headset that won't cost you a lot, get this one. I was tired of holding my hot phone up to my face for hours a day so I bought this for $0.01 plus shipping. While it's clearly not as fancy as some of the Bluetooth headsets, it does a good job. Everyone has been able to hear me just fine, and I can hear them just as well as I ever could.

I have been quite impressed by the audio clarity of this Motorola hands-free headset. For all the talk about bluetooth headsets, none comes close to this when it comes to voice clarity, sending or receiving.
Also, the ear bud makes it a comfortable wear.
This device is like a Toyota Camry. It does the job to perfection. You couldn't ask for anything more reliable.

Digital velocity-modulated scanning is advanced circuitry along the neck of the CRT that senses transitions from black to white in the video signal. The black and white portions of the signal are sped up and slowed down, respectively, resulting in sharp black-to-white transitions. For a more filmlike picture when you're watching movies, you may want to selectively turn off this circuitry. Other features include horizontal and vertical edge correction, three rear and one front-panel audio/video inputs, 15 watts per channel stereo sound, Artificial Intelligence Sound Control (prevents variances in sound level), BBE high-definition sound (improves speech intelligibility and restores musical dynamic range), and simulated stereo sound (which works with stereo and monaural programs), and a lighted-disk universal remote control, which can be programmed to control many current video and audio devices.

Small price haevy Weight........2005-11-03
This TV is Great. The only down fall is that it is heavy. The picture is clear and bright with no bluring at all. The adjment menue is simlpe and easy to understand. Every thing is better on this TV(dvd,XBOX,even vhs). The High Def. erra is here and this is a cheap back door route to take. If your more thrifty than picky this the way to go given that the set is so big but it still looks pretty cool. So If size and weight are not important this is the tv for you. Happy lifting:^)

well i bought 5 lilliputs LCD/TV's for my car, and all are working very good. Just 1 Screen came with 2two pixels dead, :P im sad for that, i guess that the Seller VIVITEQ should test the LCD/TV before to send it , cause im im latin america. and is not a deal send it back for change :P, afther all that , the screen its very GOOD. very Bright, The Speacker Built In is very louder :D, and the remote control should be more resistent. i recommend this LCD/Tv for your car ! Sorry About my Bad English :P

Could be better for the price.......2007-01-10
For the price you could buy 20inch widescreen. I've had it for about 5 months now and the color is starting to fade. Sometimes the whole screen turns purple or pink. The touchscreen works great, after the detailed calibration it's awesome. There is too much glare in the sun, it would be nice if they could put some transflective technology into it. Overall, I give it a 3 out of 5.

I'm a newbie to burning CDs yet I haven't had a problem with these discs at all. File backup was clean and music reproduction was unmistakable from the original issue. I recommend these, they will not disappoint.
Good, solid discs for music audio recordings.......2003-01-28
I've used lots of these discs problem free for both data and music recordings. Good choice for musicians who need inexpensive, reliable CD's to burn their own CD's. Three thumbs up.
As good as I expected.......2003-01-26
These CDs work as advertised. Basically you have 700MB for file space, or 80minutes of music. They're as good as any CD-Rs I've used to date. If you're still using a 24x burner these are for you. If you're faster, check out memorex's 48x 100 cd-r pack. Those are pretty good too.
