Great all-round camera.......2006-12-27

I've had this camera for 6 months now and taken several thousand pictures. The pics have been consistently excellent - the sharpness, colours and contrast all rival much more expensive cameras, particularly in good light conditions (outdoors in daylight or indoors with flash).

It works very well as a point and shoot, but also has lots of programmable modes for more experienced users.

To another reviewer : Fill in flash can be done by switching to P mode, which allows you to force the flash to always on.

With regard to other reviewers' comments on speed, mine speeded up a lot with an Ultra II SD card. Cycle time is now sub-1s without flash, although with flash it does still slow down to about 5s due to the flash recharge time. I would strongly recommend getting a 512Mb or bigger, Ultra II-type, SD card.

The drawbacks apply to any compact camera, the lens is smaller than an SLR etc. so in conditions of low light, or with high zoom, or both, its running long exposure times with resulting restrictions on movement.

Geart camera with a few (minor) issues.......2006-11-20

Overall, I really like my A700. I took the camera on a trip to Italy and was extremely pleased with the performance, shooting 95% on automatic. After spending considerable time researching available cameras, it replaced my Powershot S40, as I wanted to upgrade to the 6MP and the 6x zoom. I'm used to the Canon settings (having had the S40 and a Rebel), so that was a consideration. Yesterday I took some head and action shots at the Eagles game (sideline pre-game warmup)and was impressed by the ability to stop action using the Tv setting.

I do agree with some of the issues pointed out by reviewers, namely:
1. I had to return it after two weeks, as the automatic lens cover started sticking. Servicing was quick, but it seems to be an issue with this model. I'm hoping it isn't a reoccuring problem.
2. Flash recycling time IS slow. Mine runs about 6-8 seconds. Luckily, it's a minor annoyance with my shooting.
3. For all the great features they built-in, a hot shoe for an attached flash would have been a nice addition.
4. I wish they had added a remote shutter release...oh well.
5. True, the 800ISO setting is extremely grainy, but you quickly learn not to use it unless you expect and can accept the results (and a tripod isn't permitted). And, easy to pretend it's not there.

Overall, I found these to be minor items when balanced with the near-perfect blend of features.

Lastly, one of the features I thought I'd use was the ability to add telephoto and wide-angle lenses, as well as filters. At 6X, I don't think I'll have a need for it.

If you want something that's unreliable.......2006-11-04

Camera has been nothing but problems. I've owned it about 3 months. It was sent to Canon for about 2-3 weeks over a month ago and it's going back tomorrow. Same problem. The problem is the LCD does not always come on when you turn the camera on. When that happens you can't take a picture (you'll get a blank picture). Problem doesn't happen all the time, very annoying. Canon repaired it once and I'm getting the same problem. They offer no recourse other than to repair again at their service center in the midwest (free shipping this time, big deal!!). Camera is turning out to be an annoying piece of junk that their own service department can't repair. Camera, service, and warranty all very poor. I would highly recommend cameras from any other vendor but this one.

A glorious TV... but..........2004-01-02

I owned this TV for about three days, as a replacement for an old TV that died. The picture on this set in the store and at home was truly beautiful. It stood out from all the non-HD models near it and it was exactly the same picture when I got a copy home. The setup couldn't have been easier. The remote was slightly cheezy, but everything else was first rate: picture, sound, setup menus, features.

Here's why it went back: this TV, like every TV larger than 27" to be found at all of the big box stores near me is silver. It would be better to say SILVER. This TV is very obvious, screaming at you as you pass by: hey, lookit me! I'm SILVER. ::sigh:: It's even distracting (or I found it so) when you're watching it: the silver frame distracts from the picture.

I desparately wanted the black cabinet model, which you cannot get. I ended up with the JVC I'Art in the same size. Not nearly the equal TV, but it was the ONLY black cabinet left anywhere.

In any case, if you want an outstanding TV and don't mind the plasticy silver box, this is the one I would stear you to. It's glorious, but...

A good 32" TV Set.......2003-07-26

Had experience with a Pansonic 20" Tau Set. That one was excellent, a 2001 model, CT20SX11. This one is new. Picture is very good for a non HD TV and considering the size of the tube.
Have an antenna for input. Have no cable TV. The tuner does not receive a good stereo broadcast signal, so, when the set is set to stereo, the sound is distorted/scratchy. Had to set it to mono to receive broadcast TV. Not happy about that but viewing DVD and VCR tapes the sound is great as the stereo signal is received and sent out of the TV. There is no adjustment of stereo signal i.e. Stereo/mono/sap from the alternate sources (DVD/VCR).

The set really shines viewing DVD's with component cable connections...excellent picture considering not an HDTV Tube.

The set is very heavy (161lbs.) and bulky to lug in and set up.

Overall quite pleased with the set as it replaced a dying 27" sony set.

Theoritically it is very good solution for car PC applications because of 2 composite video inputs and 1 VGA port; but just theoritically !

I bought one, installed it, had first experience and disappointed too much! Mixing colours, unsharp images, imaginary colour flames flying on the screen.. I couldn't get any improvements by adjusting screen settings.. I couldn't get any support from the seller, named VIVITEQ..

There is no a good documentation, no drivers for VGA usage,no support..

The only recommendation for Lilliput and VIVITEQ: Stay away from them !
