Optics and Resolution
The PowerShot A80 offers a 4-megapixel CCD sensor that produces images up to 2272 x 1704 pixels for photo-quality 11 x 14 inch enlargements. Other resolution modes include 1600 x 1200, 1024 x 768, and 640 x 480. The 3x zoom lens has a focal length of 7.8-23.4mm (equivalent to 38-114mm in 35mm photography). Movie Mode

Printing
Canon has introduced a series of printers designed to work directly with its lineup of digital cameras. Using these printers, no computer is required--simply connect the camera to the printer and start printing. Printers include Canon's bubble jet direct printers i900D and i960, and card photo printer CP-200 and CP-300. Of course, photos from your camera can also be printed on any home computer system with an inkjet printer, sent off for online processing, or simply enjoyed on your computer screen.

Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on CompactFlash Type I memory cards; a 32 MB card is included. When shooting in Large/Normal mode, you can store 54 images on the included memory card. Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB 1.1, which means the camera can be connected to any USB-based Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

Do not buy this camera!.......2007-07-19

I was given a Canon A80 as a gift 2+ years ago. I actually used it happily for that time. Then, when I had been using the camera and downloading photos from the camera, suddenly I received a warning that there was "no memory card" in the camera. I had not removed the memory card. I wrote to Canon Customer Service, followed their detailed instructions for fixing the problem, but their directions were completely flawed and could not fix the problem. I see from others' comments that this camera only lasts several years--I believe Canon should build a product that lasts and doesn't have to be replaced so frequently.

Doesn't work after 2 1/2 years.......2007-06-23

Like many other reviewers, I loved this camera until it recently stopped working. It keeps telling me to change the battery pack and turns off after a few seconds. This is after I put in new batteries. The support center told me that it would be over $100 to fix and that if I send it in, I will be offered an upgrade to a reconditioned A530 for only $125.00. I checked the Amazon price and the A530 sells new for $119.00!! I guess I'll discard the A80 and try another brand.

Great camera!.......2006-11-19

I have taken countless pictures of 6 grandchildren for over 3 years without a single problem! 6 yr old granddaughter loves to run around taking lots of pictures with it and have to say this is NOT a fragile camera. Want to find another to give to an 8 year old for Christmas. LOVE this camera... especially like the vari-angle LCD monitor. It really helps to keep the monitor from being damaged.

Excellent little camera...........2006-09-12

I have used this camera for about 3 years (i've taken close to 1500 photos and about 30 video clips) and its still the best camera I've ever owned! Durable and utilitarian, it satisfies all amateur photographic needs (takes zoom, panorama, night shots, b/w, sepia, self-timed.) The video function though limited & grainy is useful for short recordings. The screen is small, but that's a minor disadvantage. It's a little bulky, but still small enough to fit in your pocket (a big pocket), though it is heavy. The price is very reasonable. Battery life is only adequate (4 AA).

Two absolute additional accessories and add-ins- the Samsonite camera case (see my other reviews) and a larger memory card (at least 512 MB). The 32 MB card that comes with the phone is useless.

We used this camera for taking general purpose family pictures. Nice design and good feature set. At 2yr mark it completely stopped saving pictures to CF card. I can't find any information on canon site. Bummer, I was really hoping to upgrade to a EOS this year. Probably no more Canons for me.

The motion-adaptive 3-line digital comb filter stores two consecutive scan lines until the third scan line comes into the filter. This filter examines 3 successive scan lines simultaneously. At a vertical transition between two colors, either the top two or the bottom two will usually be the same color. Initially, the top two scan lines will be the same color and logic directs those lines to the comb filter. When the scan moves down another line, the bottom two (of the three) scan lines will have the new color and they will be directed to the comb filter. Hence, two lines with different colors will not be input to the comb filter at a transition boundary. The Y and C signals will be fully separated and the "hanging dots" eliminated. The closed caption decoder allows you to read on-screen subtitles and other information that accompanies selected television programming. Closed captioning allows the hearing impaired to more fully enjoy television viewing and can also be helpful in improving English language skills. You can program closed captioning to activate every time the MUTE key is pressed on the remote.

Surround Sound simulates stereo sound--even from a monaural source--by delaying the original, two-channel sound to create a "surround" effect. Artificial Intelligence Sound Control (AISC) maintains an even sound level to prevent wide variations in volume among different TV channels and types of programming.

Parental controls include channel lock and game guard, and a programmable on/off timer lets you limit viewing times (or rouse yourself from post-dinner slumber just in time for the 11 o'clock news). In addition to basic television controls, the set's remote can operate most VCRs, cable boxes, and DVD players. Illuminated buttons make it easier to use in darkened rooms.

As an owner of other Panasonic televisions, this was an obvious choice because of compatibility with remote controls. The picture quality is crisp and the sound is good. If you are like me and do not have an HD feed and want to save some money, this is worth looking at.

These batteries seem to be alright. I have also purchased Duracell off of ebay in bulk and they seem as if they were after market or not the real Duracell battery. I would purchase the Maxells again.

Bad Battaries.......2007-01-05

They do not last very long. They go dead very fast. They are being usedx in calculators, CD players and MP3 players.
