The Sure Shot 130u camera combines a stylish and ultra compact design with a wide range of features including a 38-130mm f/5.6 -12.5, 3.4x zoom lens to offer users exceptional image quality at an affordable price. Canon has been able to reduce the size of the new Sure Shot 130u compared to previous models in the Sure Shot range, by incorporating a small yet powerful flash unit and an integrated metering and focusing system (AE/AF) into the body of this miniature camera. In addition to its ultra compact size, the Sure Shot 130u features a new generation design encompassing striking aluminum curved casing which will satisfy even the most style conscious of users. The Sure Shot 130u is also extremely user friendly and features a large zoom button for easy operation and a large LCD panel making it easy for the user to view the settings. Its integrated AE/AF sensor reduces the size of the Sure Shot 130u and provides improved automatic exposure. A 16-zone metering sensor can detect backlighting, which means that more subtle exposure can also be achieved. An exposure compensation of +1.5 or -1.5 stop is also possible. The Auto Focus can be controlled by switching between seven focusing points, which are linked to the zoom. When set on the custom function, center-point autofocus is also possible.Five custom functions are available in addition to the camera's standard features. These include the real time release mode, flash mode memory, auto rewind disabled, center-focus point selection and continuous shooting. Look Elsewhere..........2005-10-14
You may want to consider another brand of point and shoot 35mm film camera. We purchased this camera a little over a year ago, suddenly last week it would no longer load film. Being just beyond the 1 year warranty, we contacted Canon Service for information on repair. We were instructed to send the camera to them for evaluation. We received a phone call from them indicating the camera could not be repaired as they didn't have the parts. They couldn't even offer a replacement of the same camera. What they did offer was the 150U model for $88 with only a 6 month warranty. Based on the reviews here, it sounds like the 150 is not altogether great either. Up until the time the camera quit functioning it took good photos and was easy to use.
I just think for $100 a camera should last more than 15 months and be serviceable. This just seems too much like planned obsolescence to me.
Great camera! Recommended.......2005-08-27
Highly recommended! If you want a great camera that is well built & affordable this is it. I have developed five rolls of film so far and this takes some of the best pictures I've ever seen. My wife has an APS film which doesn't even come close to a 35 mm camera. Great zoom also!!!
Excellent Camera!!.......2005-06-16
I've had this camera now for about 3 years and it still works like a charm and takes great pics w/o any redeye. The only problem I've had was once at a wedding I was taking pics all night and didn't realize I didn't have film until the end of the night. The camera just kept taking pics with flash and everything, so I had no idea. I wish it had something to let you know it needs film. I was very upset but that was mostly my fault. This is a great buy for the cheap price.
Point and Click for Perfect Photos!!!.......2005-04-27
"Point and Click" never described a camera so perfectly. Having owned my last camera for over 10 years, I was hesitant about buying a new camera but I had no choice when my former camera was busted at a Chicago White Sox Spring Training game! The first roll I took on opening day for the White Sox turned out a perfect roll of pictures. It's the best camera I've owned and it's by far not the most expensive. My husband and I attend a lot of sporting events so we're taking pictures of athletes moving and we'd had no problems getting clear photos in succession of a moving player. The color and images are sharp and defined. I got a little freaked out when I read the owner's manual but once I started taking pictures I saw how easy it was to use. This camera takes gorgeous pictures of images inside and outside. You won't be disappointed!!

This camera has taken excellent pictures. I am not a professional photographer, so I did not purchase a camera that has features I do not know how to use. I point the camera at the target, I push the button, put the camera back in my pocket, and continue with my day. Upon getting the film developed, I have nothing but great things to say because the pictures are all in focus and the colors look right. I only wish that the lens could make my wifes thighs look thinner. So what if the camera did not come with a battery. Go buy one.

Customer Reviews:
Four months and a dead drive....Plextor Quality?.......2007-01-11
I installed this drive in a small form factor pc that I built in September. I've burned less than thirty CD/DVD's since and now the drive refuses to read or write any disks. I have always heard about the quality of the Plextor drives so what a disappointment this one is. Plextor customer service responded quickly to my email and suggested the cause was bad media and that I should use only media that Plextor had tested. I reviewed their approved media and found the media I was using was listed there. To make sure I didn't have a bad batch of DVD+R's I tried several of them in my HP laptop where they worked just fine. I wrote back to Plextor with more information about the drive, how I updated the firmware to the latest version and when that didn't work tried several earlier versions of the firmware to see if there was a compatibility issue.....nothing worked. Plextor suggested testing the drive with it's on-board testing feature which required disassembling the pc and detaching the SATA cable. The drive test failed. A quick review of the pc hardware forums revealed that this is a problematic drive and I recommend a careful reading of the reviews of this and other Plextor drives before paying a premium price for this product.
Doing Well.......2007-01-04
This item has performed well thus far. I haven't put it through a thorouh testing yet, hence the 4 stars. But at this point I expect no issues. The fact that it was reasonably priced, SATA connected and from a trusted name got to buy this product. And since I haven't had any issues, I would buy another.
Expensive paper weight.......2006-11-25
Recieved this item new in the box. I initially didn't notice anything wrong with the drive since I never used it. Started using it and it would burn nothing but coasters even with media disc they recommend. I have been complaining to Plextor about this since June and they would tell me there is a firmware update or something along the lines coming out in the near future. Install that and then call us back if it still has an issue. Did that a couple of times and the realized they are just avoiding having a bad drive returned. Tech support said the motherboard chipset was bad or something and it wasn't their problem. So I went out and purchased a Samsung DVD drive that out preforms the paper weight's advertised speed, reviews, ect. Best thing is the Samsung drive cost about 1/4 of what the Plextor one did. So I call up Plextor and told them about the Samsung drive and they were telling me the warranty is up and the reseller I purchased the drive from wasn't an authorized dealer. But yet the drive came to my house in an unopened brand new sealed Plextor box. Recieved one star because there is no option for zero stars.
Great drive, although a bit expensive.......2006-05-08
I bought this drive because it's shorter than the popular NEC-3550a drive and the SATA/power connectors are on the left side of the drive. I'm using it in an HTPC case which has very little clearance for an optical drive, but this Plextor works perfectly.
Pros:
- Shorter than other comparable DVD drives.
- Connectors are on the left side, which may help people with desktop style cases where the CPU cooler is close to the drive.
- Fast read speeds and relatively quiet for DVDs and CDs
Cons:
- I don't like the software package. No Nero? No PowerDVD?
- Slight compatibility issue with my ASRock 939SLI32-eSATA2 motherboard. After installing the 716SA, my system takes a long time to detect the drives during POST.
- Expensive.
Great Serial ATA dvd burner.......2006-05-04
I've been using the Plextor PX-716SA for a little over a year already. Burnt many cdrs, cd-rws, dvds, and dvd+rws discs without any problems. Always burns at a fast, consistent rate. This is the only optical drive I have on my computer so it has no problems reading any discs that I insert too. It's also quiet when read discs inserted into it and burning discs compared to other optical drives I've used in the past. The original drive I had did die on me a couple of months ago, but Plextor's tech support was helpful when I needed to get a replacement drive under warranty.
