my camera was great - although it was a little tricky to learn how to take spontaneous photos. but once i got the hang of it i loved it. unfortunately, it died literally just 3 days after the 1-year warranty ended. i sent it back to be repaired and was distressed when i got a reconditioned camera in return - a different model entirely - because a sticker said that my camera was 'unable to be repaired.' it was a shame that a camera that cost $90 only lasted a year and that canon can't repair its own products!! i loved my camera and wish it lasted longer!

Get a Nikon.......2004-03-23

Received this as a gift. Ran about 5 rolls of film through it. It took decent pictures. Nothing to write home about. Then the lcd stopped working. Canon fixed it under warranty quickly and with no problems. The camera frequently has trouble focusing on subjects. So...good customer support, but only so so operation and pictures.

Sennheiser, a rare standout among headphone manufacturers, brings its award-winning design skills to wireless technology with the RS 4-9. The RS 4-9 system unites comfort, convenience, and easy-going sonics at a reasonable price.

The heart of the system is, of course, the headphone receiver, a sturdy plastic band lined with an adjustable cushioning band. The 4-inch padded earcups rest against and not over your ears, joined to the headband in pivot sockets that permit easy angling to fit your head. The other piece central to the RS 4-9 is the FM (frequency modulation) transmitter, a tiny device that you hook up to both an AC outlet and your sound source, and then essentially forget about.

The headset runs on a single "accuplug" rechargeable battery, not the sort of thing you pick up at your local convenience store. The RS 4-9 comes with one, but be careful: It only runs for 3 hours at a spell, and if you let it run completely flat you won't be able to recharge it. The battery comes charged and fitted in the headset's right earpiece, just above the conveniently placed volume/on/off switch. However, Sennheiser strongly recommends 24 hours' charging time before first use, so after you've checked to hear that the RS 4-9 works, be sure to put that battery right into the charger! The transmitter offers two charging slots in case you want to stock up.

The transmitter comes with an input cable that plugs into any stereo analog miniplug or 0.25-inch headphone jack, so you can easily feed it audio from your tuner, CD player, DVD player, cassette deck, minidisc, television--you name it, as long as you have a headphone jack on either the source or on your receiver, preamp, or integrated amplifier. We'd prefer a choice between using headphone outputs or RCA jacks, but in an either/or situation we feel the headphone connection offered here is most conducive to simple setups.

Sennheiser recommends not exceeding 100 meters (328 feet) in listening range, and we occasionally experienced interference--similar to FM radio static--at shorter distances, depending on the room. Metal parts, such as those in concrete construction or wall coverings, will reflect radio waves, whereas the audio signal passes unobstructed through wood, plaster, and (apparently) people. Different channels (1 to 3) permit use of multiple headsets in the same house.

Battery and transmission issues aside, setting up and enjoying the RS 4-9 really is quite simple, requiring very little effort to plug in, set the transmission channel, and crank up the tunes. Don't crank the level too high, though--your ears will thank you for it later.

FM wireless transmission should sound about like good FM radio--it's the same process, after all--and, like radio, reception will vary in different regional areas and buildings. The sound from Sennheiser's earcup drivers is good: clean, clear, and evenly balanced.

The headphones are deficient in the frequency extremes (low bass and high treble), but the emphasis here is on convenience and comfort, and in these the RS 4-9 has much to offer. --Michael Mikesell

Good, but could use some refinement.......2001-01-26

Overall the quality and value of these headphones is good but a number of refinements are needed to make them great.

The sound quality is comparable to $30-$40 or so corded headphones. Bass is a bit lacking, as is volume. If you get the volume settings right (high on the stereo, low on the headset) there is little or no hiss. I wish there was a way to turn off or adjust the volume limiter. When watching TV, it often kicks in during loud moments but does not turn off when the volume goes back down so you have to constantly fiddle with the volume control in order to hear everything.

They are light and comfortable for extended periods. They fit very loosely, so they often slide around or fall off when I do too much moving around. I thought the whole point of these things was to be able to move around while wearing them? The tuning knob is also easy to accidentally bump, forcing you to stop and find the signal again.

Reception is very good 90% of the time. I can go into the garage, etc with no loss in quality. Occasionally if you turn your head the wrong way you'll loose signal even if the transmitter is only a few feet away. Once in a while I pick up interference from something else in the area (baby monitor perhaps?) but switching channels fixes that.

Battery life is poor. A fully charged battery lasts approximately 3 hours and only one was included. There is no charging stand where you can put the headphones to charge themselves, you have to actually pull the battery out and put it into the base charger. I bought two extra batteries and find myself constantly shuffling batteries between the headphones and the charger to maximize battery life. I still find myself with 3 drained batteries at the end of the day sometimes because they don't charge fast enough.

If they could fix the 3 main problems (battery life/charge time, loose fit, and volume) I would toss my corded headphones and use these 100% of the time. If you plan to use them for short time periods without moving around too much, they are very handy.

Just what I wanted........2000-07-28

The sound quality of these headphones were decent - but not as good as wired headphones costing half as much. It was still more than enough to satisfy all but a purist.

The transmission was flawless. All throughout my house in any level , I never experienced any interuptions. The rechargable battery that recharges in the transmitter is very convenient - no consumable to buy.

I would give it 4.5 stars, if more granularity was available.

First, it's analog. That's important to understand. So if you have anything else in the house running on 900 MHz -- like a cordless phone -- you'll get heavy hissing. You'll have to do a lot of fiddling. If you want to use the headphones only on line of sight -- in front of your TV -- get yourself a cheaper infra-red system. Works much better.
