The Canon LR1 provides WebTV users with a sleek, color printing device that's easy to install and fits well with other components of a home theater system. Because it's about the same size and shape as a VCR, it slips easily into a standard audio/video rack or cabinet. All the major controls are located on the easily accessible front panel.

The LR1 doesn't need any special software if you're connecting it to a WebTV system, but to test it with a PC we had to download drivers from Canon's website. Otherwise, the printer comes with everything you'll need to get up and running, including a bidirectional printer cable, a power supply, and ink tanks. Even novice users should have the device installed in less than 10 minutes, thanks to the clearly written documentation and the huge, full-color quick-start poster.

In our tests of the Canon LR1, we were able to produce some nice text, but color performance suffered compared to better color ink jets we've worked with. The 720 x 360 resolution appears to be more of a marketing gimmick than a truly useful print mode, as the print quality was comparable to ordinary 360 x 360 resolution ink-jet printers. The text wasn't as sharp as it should have been, but it was still legible at even small font sizes. Complex color graphics also suffered from less-than-expected quality.

The quality of photograph printouts was wholly dependent on the type of paper we used. We saw terrible results on plain paper but observed some nice images when we used high-grade glossy paper that was specifically designed for ink jets. The LR1's biggest drawback is its slow speed. Plain text pages were produced at anywhere from two to four pages per minute, but when color was involved, the printer took up to a full minute for a single page.

If you do only light-volume printing from the Web, the LR1 is an acceptable solution, but for high-volume or high-quality printing, there are many options that are faster, cheaper, and have better specifications. If only the print quality and price matched the ease of use, this would be an ideal solution for WebTV users needing printouts. --T. Byrl Baker

The LR1 print station is just great!!Have had it a few months and no probs.Not only is it easy to use, hook up and load..but you DO NOT have to clean the print heads. It is done automatically.The printing quality is very good for a set top box printer although it can also be used with a computer. The ink is not as expensive as it is for other similar printers. Also using decent quaility paper produces nice results. Matter of fact Canon does not recommend use of special coated paper for printing which is more expensive.The LR1 is sleekly sized and very good looking. NOT another dragon-sized piece of equipment that will add UGLY to your home :)I am VERY pleased with this product!!! (Nowadays it is difficult to say this about most things on the market since they are poorly/carelessly manufactured.) Thank you Canon!!

We use these radios for emergency evacuation drills. Nice units for the price. I like that they use AAA batteries, rather than rechargeable. Good clarity and distance. Would recommend.

Everything I wrote about this unit one year ago is true, just that they are not built to last. I used them every other weekend while I was riding my ATV. OK lot's of shaking and dust but still I had expected them to last a bit longer. First the clip, than the speaker button - both of them fell literally apart.
Hard to find a quality unit. Other manufactures are not any better. I do believe that those FSR and GMRS units are generally built cheap. O.K. considering the price you still might wanna give'em a shot.

Yes this is a basic radio but it has a 2 watt output and the best penatration for difficult city buildings. I use this radio at work and find it works in NYC's buildings better than an motorola, audiovox that I have tried. The radio has all the features you are looking for and the only negative is that it goes through batteries on the 2 watt mode. (I use Nickle Metal Hydride)

Bought a pair of these 6 months ago. Have used them quite a bit on trips to both New Mexico and New Brunswick...and they've worked great everywhere. Rugged, lots of battery life, and easy to use. Highly recommended.

I got it after losing a Motorols FRS radio (T5200) which was awesome. I am v e r y disapoointed by the Midland set. Among others, the mic sensitivity is adjusted differently in each set. if you talk to closely to the set it gets saturated and cuts the transmission. Poor product in comparison to Motorola.

The breathtaking 17-inch viewable area of the Xerox XG-71D monitor is bordered by a black frame with the control buttons embedded in a narrow chrome strip along the bottom. Everything is mounted on a futuristic chrome pedestal. The display tips 25 degrees so that users of different heights can find the perfect viewing angle.

Covering the entire screen is a sheet of tempered glass, protecting the fragile LCD panel from pokes, prods and corrosive fingerprints. A sapphire-blue LED tells you when the power is on (steadily lit) or saving energy (flashing).

Connected to a Mac mini through the DVI input, the 1280x1024 workspace provides plenty of room without shrinking the Mac OS X Dock. In DVI mode, every pixel on the display is directly controlled by a specific memory location on the graphics card. Nice Monitor.......2004-10-09

My ancient monitor crossed over to the ebon view so I needed a new one. I wanted a LCD but knew I had the most distructive kitten known to mankind. This monitor has a glass panel over the LCD so its tough enough for paw prints (which it does have currently.) Plus I like being able to touch and dust my screen (call me old fashioned.) The image itself is clean and crisp with very nice contrast and colours. The design is fluid and the buttons are ergonimically incorporated into the screen so they are nearly invisable. The screen tilts up and down but not easily so it wont fall back to its originally position or move if bumped. No complaints so far.

Leica has followed in the heels of its lavish, unpopular Hermes edition Leica MP by releasing yet another extravagant collectible aimed solely at wealthy collectors who lust after a rangefinder camera and lens made predominantly of titanium. This Leica M7 camera body is the first to be called truly a titanium M camera, since its top and bottom plates are made entirely of this precious metal. Although I am a fan of Leica M rangefinder cameras and their superlative M-mount lenses, I think Leica is making yet another mistake by introducing an expensive, limited edition collectible when it should try to listen to long-time users who want it to produce its high quality equipment without substantial price increases nearly every fiscal quarter! For the price you pay for this system, you can buy a brand new Leica M7 starter kit with 50mm Summicron lens, a 35mm ASPH Summicron lens, and a 28mm f2 ASPH Summicron lens, and still have the pleasure of using a Leica. ...how incredibly fantastic this is. To the purist, a Leica is to use and to consume, yet it is nearly impervious to use/abuse compared to other quality cameras - in fact, it only gets better with the loving care of the photographer. This camera is a wonderful experience. The leather is so refined and fresh, while the smooth texture of the titanium body is so beautiful that you are drawn to caress it and you can't imagine NOT using it. You want to play with it, shot with it, make it a part of you.

The quality feel of a Leica is already a pleasure, this body makes it much more so. It feels solid and accomplished. I love it. Yes, it is expensive. Leicas are expensive - for a reason. Maybe this is an indulgence, but you only indulge in a Leica because you want the best and this is best of breed - reassuringly. I love mine and use mine. I can "wax lyrical" endlessly about it. It is fantastic.

Great Camera, Low Battery Life.......2005-07-29

This is a great camera. The picture quality is excellent and the camera itself has a cool design. It also has a nice TFT LCD screen and a joystick. Unfortunately the battery life is very low. With the screen, the battery life is only 10-15 minutes! Without the screen, the battery life is about 15-30 minutes.

Overall: If you are looking for a great inexpensive camera, get this, but stock up on AA batteries if you plan on buying this model.

I am going to rebuff one reviewer by the name of Kyle.

This is not true. I take plenty of pictures with no hassles.

This is not true. My camera has yet to freeze on me after a year of usage.

"I don't recommend this camera unless you have a rechargeable pack of PATIENCE! "

This is also not true. My camera works great. Every problem I've had with it has been an end-user problem. Once I got really pissed becuse it would not power on with the SD card in, but would with it not in. The problem was that I had weak batteries, and SD cards require more energy to power on than Internal RAM. This principle is also true with PDA's. Always expect more power usage when using a memory card over internal RAM.

Also for best results dont use rechargeables, but use Lihtium batteries.

This is an excellent end user camera. For effecient use, its recomended that the operator know what he or she is doing. If you are digital camera illiterate please do not blame it on the camera!

I brought this camera for my bithday and I had a blast with it. The pictures were great and everything. It was even used for my school newspaper! But unfortunatrely it does this glitchy thing while taking a picture and sometimes in order to take a see your pictures you have to take a picture first. The camera freezes a lot meaning you have to shut it down manually which is bad for the camera. I don't recommend this camera unless you have a rechargeable pack of PATIENCE!

Not Very good.......2003-11-04

This camera looks better than it is. The buttons and features are nice on it. But the picture quality is ranges from poor to okay. Some photos tend to be bluish cast, some tend to be blurred if the lighting is full sun. Flash pictures seemed to be pretty detailed and clear.

The camera is a battery hog, so use rechargables in it. It doesn't work under Linux only Windows and Mac. No problem handling the downloads under XP worked well.

I purchased on an auction site (not here) and it's going back out there for resale.
