Lens
The ZR70MC features a high-performance 1/6-inch 680,000-pixel CCD to capture high-quality video and digital photos. Image Stabilization

Digital Stills and Motion JPEG
In addition to high-quality video, the ZR70MC also captures crisp XGA (1,024 x 768 pixels) digital still images. The ZR70MC stores these images via the built-in slot for Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMediaCard memory cards. You can also choose to store still images on the MiniDV tape. The camcorder records the photos for approximately 6 seconds, as well as recording the sound for your verbal notes or narration.

Designed to help you make Web videos, motion JPEG mode produces compressed AVI files that are smaller and easier to run and send by e-mail than conventional video files. They're also stored on the memory card and transferred via the USB connection. Record a 10-second clip at 320 x 240 or a 30-second clip at 160 x 120.

You can search through the recorded tape for your photos using the supplied remote control. This photo search feature allows you to search for images recorded in photo mode. Search forward or backward through the images one at a time, or jump 10 pictures backward or forward from the current position.

Inputs and Outputs
The ZR70MC comes with the standard DV IEEE 1394 port (also referred to as FireWire), which provides a lossless connection to a PC or other DV machines, as well as USB connectivity for transferring still photos. Additionally, the ZR70MC features two types of analog audio and video inputs and outputs: composite and S-video. The analog audio inputs of the ZR70MC let you dub or insert editing from CDs, cassettes, microphones, or the soundtracks of other videocassettes.

MiniDV Format
MiniDV is the new, preferred format for personal and broadcast-quality video, and it is highly regarded for its high audio and image quality. With up to 540 lines of horizontal resolution and minimum color noise, MiniDV delivers a 2 percent clearer picture than analog camcorder formats. This is all delivered on a cassette that's 1/12th the size of a standard VHS tape. A MiniDV tape offers digital recording time of 2 full hours--20 times the capacity of a CD.

Power, Size, and Contents
The ZR70MC comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, which has an approximate battery life of 2 hours 20 minutes when using the LCD screen. The camera itself measures 4.1 by 2.3 by 5.8 inches and weighs 18 ounces. Great for consumer and professional applications.......2007-04-01

I've had this camcorder for about 2 years now and have used it for everything from backyard footage to filming corporate events. My kit included the wide angle lens attachment, a standard life battery, software CD and an 8 MB SD card. It performs great. It has great sound through the regular microphone. I even recorded a fireworks display and the fireworks did not overdrive the sound. You could still hear nearby voices even while the fireworks were going off. It has a hot shoe for connecting accessories. Although I always intended to add a microphone to the hot shoe, I never did get around to it. I think the standard mic is sifficient for my needs.

When I recorded for corporate events, I ran the soundboard right into the A/V on the camera using a standard RCA to Headphone jack. This was a handy feature since we were in a warehouse environment and the sound system mixed all the audio. I could film from a long distance and still patch in the audio to make it sound great. The recorded video turned out really superb and my customers were quite pleased. I used the included Studio 8 to edit the video and record onto the DVD.

The still camera is around a megapixel. Not great as far as quality unless you're shooting in good outdoor light. Dark lighting definitely looks grainy on the stills, even with the night shot mode enabled.

The camera model, along with some other Canon DV cameras are affected by a recall. It will freak you out when you don't see any video on your viewfinder or LCD. It just goes black. In short, the cable that connects the CCD (which digitizes the video) gets disconnected. Canon will repair the defect (they will also pay shipping both ways) regardless of warranty status. The process was easy and did not take very long.

I presume people had problems with this product (ZR70MC).I guess most of them are CCD related.I owned ZR70MC since 2004 and I noticied CCD problem recently (Camcorder LCD went blank even when lens cap is removed) and one year warranty on product had already expired.Canon customer service was efficient and they repaired it free of cost (they even provided shipping label).When I received camcorder I noticied that record button is not working. Canon customer service or repair center again came to my rescue and they repaired it free of cost (they even provided shipping label).
I rate their customer service as best.But as some one noted earleir this camcorder doesn't perform well in low light conditions.

It take 2 weeks total.
That is great support.
Talk to anyone else about a 2-3 year old product.
The funny thing is the part giving the problems is Sony.

As a lot of people mentioned, this product has several good features and drawbacks. The most attractive feature is 22x optical zoom. Video quality is not bad. However, it performs poorly when the light is low. I used it for three years and took a lot of videos. Frankly, I didn't use it with too much care. I was lucky that it didn't die for 3 years.

Then, my LCD went black when I was during a very happy journey last week. My camcorder was bought in China and had a different model name: MV650i, but it is exactlly the same as zr70mc here in US. Hopefully I can also repair it for free here.

yes, i've checked canon's website. if your digital camcorder or camera are having lcd display problems --blank or distorted--, canon will repair it free of charge, regardless of warranty status. just call thier customer support center @ 1-800-828-4040. they will cover shipping charges in connection with the repair. i have a zr60 digital camcorder & powershot a70 digital camera. both exhibit the same problem. if you go at their official website, go to support, type in your model and product and you can see a service notice for ccd image sensor.

I got this player for christmas and the first thing I did was transfer my favorite songs off of some of my CDs but when I started trying to find music to download, well, I couldn't. The player dosen't support DRM files and all music has it! No Im not stupid, we have a computer programmer in the family who looked high and low for non-DRM files and the only place you can get them is CDs

I have the 160GB drive and after wasting 5 hours of trying to download my files there was nothing in the directory, now I have to try to re-format the whole thing...I will return it tomorrow!!! 2nd Maxtor Drive Failed in 2 Years.......2007-05-31

I bought this drive in Feb of 2005. Five months later, it crapped out. Maxtor sent me another one and I was able to recover nearly everything with the assistance of some great computer people. Not even a year after receiving the new drive, it failed today! It's clicking and squeaking. Not the sound you want from your hard drive. I am terrified to buy a Seagate drive now that they have acquired/bought Maxtor. I am not sure where I will turn from here, but I will NEVER buy another Maxtor product -- waranteed or not. My data is too valuable to trust to this company.

This drive has been nothing but trouble since I bought it. For most of the time the problem was that it was always "iffy" whether or not the drive would be recognized by any of the multiple computers I connected it to. Sometimes the drive would not be recognized until it was connected for 15 or so minutes. Other times it was never recognized at all.
I chanced upon this Amazon review area a few moments ago while doing an online search in Google for "Maxtor external hard drive fail heat" because for a couple of months now (!) this drive has been dead. I have tons of files on it that I'd like to save but at the moment nothing I've tried to revive it has worked. The Maxtor/Seagate website is useless, and before that I'd contacted its Customer Service which was equally unhelpful.
I bought this (and another smaller Maxtor drive which has not been as trouble-prone) because I *thought* Maxtor meant quality. Boy am I disappointed!
At this time I only want to salvage the many gigs of files on this drive, if possible, and burn them to DVDs as this drive is on its last legs.
I will never buy another Maxtor drive, no question about it! :-(

Do not buy this - Unreliable.......2007-01-13

After less that 8 months my Maxtor one touch II 300 gb external hard drive bit the dust. I bought it in May 2006. I just read the reviews listed here and was amazed at how many people lost data and had the drive crash. I called the company and they said it would be very expensive for me to recover the data. I lost many irreplaceable documents and after only 8 months of use you would figure that the company would bend over to help me retrieve them. Instead they want top dollar to help me retrieve my own documents on a lousy storage device they designed. After reading these review I don't want a replacement drive from the Company as it's only a matter of time before I lose the data that is stored on it. Don't buy it and save yourself a lot of headaches.
