Fills my need........2007-08-30
I had bought the 3 season set of the show "Deadwood", and needed some way to play it without upsetting the rest of the family. The language in this show is really really bad. Sitting in the basement and watching it is uncomfortable so I bought this Coby player after reading some of the reviews on here. I find the audio and video to be as well as expected and don't have a single complaint; however, I use this sitting on my sofa and not in a vehicle, so I can't speak to the method most people use a portable dvd player. I also have played only pre-recorded dvd's and cant speak to home made copies. If I had to come up with a complaint for balance, it would be that the headsets provided (2) hurt my ears. Overall I finds this excellent value.

This is a very good player, comparable to more expensive top name brands. We have made two trips, watching 3 movies on one trip. The battery will last for a little more than one movie, about 3 hours. The set comes with everything you need including two headsets. Picture is good. Audio is excellent. Sound quality was important to me as I have a hearing impairment. I checked 10 or 12 players and this one had the best sound quality. We have been very pleased

This is the best price for a portable DVD player. I bought one, then ordered another for a family member. We take our DVD player everywhere. It is great for our trips by plane, auto, or train. I bought this one from amazon and in last 12 months hardly used for 5-7 times. Waste of money. After a gap of three months after last use, when I tried to play a DVD, it didn't work. I called the tech support and without any troubleshooting told me to buy a new one.
Better pay some more money and buy one from Sony or Phillips.

Onkyo TX-NR1000 - NO HDMI UPGRADES.......2007-09-23
At release, this receiver was very good. One flaw was it had HDMI 1.0, not HDMI 1.1. Onkyo marketed this flagship model as a "future-proof" modular design that could be upgraded to keep up with changes in audio / video technology. Well, Onkyo failed miserably to support this model with upgrades. They have offered one upgrade card... a radio card that includes XM, Sirius and HD radio interfaces. That's it. Onkyo has never made an official announcement about this. I and others on the AVS Forum have emailed Onkyo, but only received generic answers (check our site for updates, etc.). For more than a year, no response until this month. They responded to my email by stating that they will offer NO HDMI card updates. Because of changes in DSP technology, they are unable to offer HDMI 1.3 cards. Now they are offering a trade-in. Send back your ($4999.99 list) TX-NR1000 flagship and they'll exchange it for a TX-NR905 ($2099.99 list), AND you need to pay an extra $1000.00 in addition!
This is outrageously poor treatment to their flagship customers. Offer upgradability, don't deliver and expect your customers to pay MORE.

Everything you expect from top-flight name-brand modern home theatre's "powerhouse brain centre": actually rated ample power per channel, an array of features and options (taking a lifetime to get acquainted with), stunning build and looks (insides too!), reliable service-free circuitry... I'll save my breath on the list and specs. Plus more.
There are pretty good reasons to table those $5,000 (or so) and prefer the Onkyo. It's not for nothing that the brand pioneered the sweet forward sound character in 70s' items like direct drive turntables, stereo-amps and 3-way speakers. It was the only international partner of best phono cartridge makers. Those lines discontinued, the identity stays in this digital era unit. For that matter, the quality phono stage feels fine amidst the CD/DVD/HDTV busy modules. Even if vynil is last on your mind, the thing won't hurt. It reflects the ideology by which the overall amazing pulsy rhythmic tasty hi-to-lowdown-balanced sound couples with those hi-tech 150 w.p.c. and "longword" 24 bit DACs.
It's the happy coupling you pay for. It's this that the competition lack. And it's this that makes speaker selection piece of cake - anything goes. HDTV and composite video ability of the Onkyo is another boon. Again, the brand makes the most of its warm colour temperature philosophy and comes up with actually bettering whatever comes in and goes out to the screen. The feature contradicts with thesis that direct video feed (bypassing a receiver) is best in home theatres.
To cut long story short, I can't help surrendering to Onkyo. Every stride the [...] make, I see no room to improve. Because I want my home theatre to reveal the material, not just connect to other zones or the Web (these are the last on MY mind). I also task the system with about impossible - to play vynil collection like American cartridges used to. Digital artifacts notwithstanding. Analog direct, 6-channel stereo of DPL modes. This machine serves it all up.
Reservations: They are meagre, but the money warrant everything. I still find the back panel a nightmare to commute, the remote an attention-grabber, the front a beaten-up path. Having spent little time with the machine, I actually can't make out whether it's matrix 6.1 or proper discreet 7.1 DTS-ES which - I know - alone is enough to scare wits out of an over-caucious non-buff. To reasure such, 6.1 come across as no different to 7.1 (or, for that matter, to 10.1 which some Lucasfilm guys custom-build).
Verdict: In use at medium to large dwellings it behaves every bit as good as the flagship model (which the local distributor frets to price even!). It heads the major-league name-brand hi-end class in terms of sound/visual appeal. It's humane on features (equalisation and DSP effects), terrific and consciencious on parts (the beauty transformers and caps!) and advanced on circuitry. Then, it will fly twice as dearer on elitist markets where sky is the limit (consider the contender's lot in Russia as the example).

Optics
The PV-DV73 offers a 1.3-megapixel CCD providing crisp, sharp pictures. Shooting from far distances is no problem with the PV-DV73's 10x optical zoom and 700x digital zoom. With Panasonic's introduction of Dual D-EIS (digital electronic image stabilization), you can use this same technology in both the record and playback modes to remove additional jitter from previously recorded video.
Digital Stills and MPEG4 Video
The still mode is capable of capturing crystal-clear still images comparable to the best digital still cameras. Image quality ranges from 640 x 480 up to 1600 x 1200 (through pixel interpolation). The images are stored onto the available Secure Digital (SD) memory card in JPEG format. You can also record MPEG4 video, which uses a higher compression setting and is great for posting to a Web site or e-mailing to friends and family.
Still images and MPEG4 video are stored on the included 8 MB Secure Digital (SD) memory card, and can be transferred to your PC via USB connectivity (compatible with both USB 1.1 and 2.0).
Web Cam Capability

The IR Filter lets you record video in near-total darkness with incredible detail. Images can be recorded in black and white, blue, or green. By simply turning on the IR filter, the camcorder uses infrared light to record images in dark settings up to approximately 10 feet away.
The PV-DV73 offers the capability to create high-quality MPEG-4 video clips from recorded video footage. This allows for computer-based editing, e-mailing video clips, or uploading to Web sites. The camcorder will also double as a Webcam when connected via USB to your PC.
The picture-in-picture feature allows you to insert a previously taken digital still image into the video you're recording. The still image is taken using the PhotoShot digital still feature and appears on the right side of the video you're recording. How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about. Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.
The Lexar Media CANADA ONLY 256MB SD CARD, like most 256MB cards, will store on average 284 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 213 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera, 128 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 102 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 80 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.
