The Basics

Hard Drive: The 200 GB hard drive (7200 RPM) is average in size compared to other media-centric desktop PCs. It provides a good size for a wide range of software applications and a generously sized digital audio library as well as room enough for editing digital home video.
Processor: AMD's Athlon 64 3500+ processor is built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. This 2.2 GHz processor offers a system bus with speeds up to a blazing 2000 MT/s (mega transfers per second) and 512 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.) It includes such AMD features as HyperTransport Technology (which increases the communication between integrated circuits) and Cool'n'Quiet Technology that conserves power while also keeping the PC nicely quiet.
Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (PC3200) is a very good start, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and gaming software. This desktop has a very good 4 GB maximum RAM capacity (4 x 1 GB).
CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the SR1830NX's multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 16x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.
This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs. Screen, Graphics and Sound
Video is powered by the ATI Radeon XPress 200 IGP video/graphics card, which delivers good, though not high-end, 3D graphics. It delivers up to 128 MB of video RAM shared with the system RAM. ATI's HyperMemory technology allows the chipset to run in either Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) mode or with dedicated frame buffer memory to enhance graphics performance. It also features an integrated audio card with microphone, line-in, and headphone jacks.

Connectivity and Expansion Slots

Proceed With Caution! ZERO Stars........2007-03-04

When I received this machine, it simply didn't work. Worse, the online "support" consumed hours of my time for no result. And after I shipped it back to the factory, as instructed, it returned in exactly the same condition as when I sent it. So I called tech support again and, guess what, they took me through exactly the same steps as the previous time. Groundhog day indeed.

My biggest issue with the product is less that it didn't work and more that they utterly failed to fix the problem. I literally spent a total of about 10+ hours on the phone with support, who repeatedly insisted they could fix the issue. (After several conversations with serveral support people, I later realized this is just part of the script. News flash to Compaq: Most customers would prefer to be told the truth than to have empty, false promises made to them. The script, frankly, only compounds the damage by increasing frustration and falsely raising hopes.)

Ultimately, as the support people asked me to do the same things over and over again, I asked for a refund or replacement. Well, nobody was available to assist me with that; they would have to call me back. Nobody called. Finally I received an e-mail from a manager. I replied to that e-mail but never heard from them again...

Later on, I discovered that Compaq is the lowest-rated computer company in the American Customer Satisfaction Index. I see why. I might have bought from them again if they'd only resolved my issue and, well, returned my email.

Ultimately I bought a Sony laptop instead. Night and day. I had some Vista issues when I bought the machine. Sony support is fast and capable. Best of all, they actually assess the problem honestly and work it through--not keep on repeating something from a script. And--my computer works great.

For Compaq, I would put zero stars...but the system requires at least one. Actually, I'd put negative. I ended up worse off than when I started! My machine doesn't work, I wasted hours and hours,
and I had to hang around waiting for UPS to pick it up...

I thought this Compaq was going to be a reliable PC, I was wrong, it doesn't have reset button and I had to call a technician due that it always frozen and I've lost a lot of works because of this. I don't recommend this computer to anybody.

Do Not Buy.......2006-12-22

Do not buy this item. I bought this for my mom two years ago for Christmas. After only a year and a half the laser died and in order to fix the unit it would cost $185. When I talked to the electronics repairman he said that he gets that a lot with these Panasonic home theater systems. There is no way this should be happening, but after talking to the repairman I am obviously not the only one who has had this happen.

Everything I wrote about this unit one year ago is true, just that they are not built to last. I used them every other weekend while I was riding my ATV. OK lot's of shaking and dust but still I had expected them to last a bit longer. First the clip, than the speaker button - both of them fell literally apart.
Hard to find a quality unit. Other manufactures are not any better. I do believe that those FSR and GMRS units are generally built cheap. O.K. considering the price you still might wanna give'em a shot.

Yes this is a basic radio but it has a 2 watt output and the best penatration for difficult city buildings. I use this radio at work and find it works in NYC's buildings better than an motorola, audiovox that I have tried. The radio has all the features you are looking for and the only negative is that it goes through batteries on the 2 watt mode. (I use Nickle Metal Hydride)

Bought a pair of these 6 months ago. Have used them quite a bit on trips to both New Mexico and New Brunswick...and they've worked great everywhere. Rugged, lots of battery life, and easy to use. Highly recommended.

I got it after losing a Motorols FRS radio (T5200) which was awesome. I am v e r y disapoointed by the Midland set. Among others, the mic sensitivity is adjusted differently in each set. if you talk to closely to the set it gets saturated and cuts the transmission. Poor product in comparison to Motorola.

The Lexmark Z65P is a high performance color inkjet printer with a built-in memory card reader at an affordable price.

A support tray extends to hold printed sheets, and twin paper trays hold blank sheets. This is useful for having photo paper in one tray and standard paper in the other. Buttons on the front of the printer let you easily switch between the two trays. To the right of the printer is a memory card reader that supports uploads and downloads for Multimedia cards, SD cards, Smart Media cards, Memory Stick, plus CompactFlash type I and II and IBM Microdrives.

The printer is easy to set up and install and comes with a clear and detailed manual that guides you through the process. It connects via your USB port. There are two ink cartridges supplied (one black and one for the other three printing colors--cyan, magenta, and yellow), and these are easy to clip into place. The card reader appears as an additional drive in the Windows desktop. The printer has an advanced software driver that helps you maximize its capabilities. You can use the driver to easily choose different quality settings and paper types.

The Z65P offers 4,800 x 1,200 dpi resolution and quotes speeds of up to 21 ppm for mono, and 15 ppm for color prints. The speeds are ambitious even when referring to draft quality as they do. To use the laser, simply depress and hold the gold button. When you remove your finger, it shuts off automatically. The laser can be powered with either the included three A76 watch batteries or three AAA conventional batteries, which fit into the pen barrel. A replacement cartridge of fine ballpoint black ink is included for the pen.

The laser pointer/pen is a lot of fun to use, and you may find your office mates asking to borrow it. But it isn't a toy. Never look directly into the laser, as it may damage your eyesight, and never shine it in another person's or small animal's eyes. Children should not use the laser pointer. Also, never disassemble the laser pointer other than to put in fresh batteries; disassembly could result in radiation exposure.

The laser lens is protected by the curved top of the pen and is unlikely to smudge, but if it does, unscrew the top and wipe it clean with a dry cotton swab. Do not use cleansing solvents, as they can damage the lens. --Dana Van Nest
