Steer clear.......2004-12-23
Got this player as a gift a year ago. I've had freezing problems with this player, sometimes from slightly scratched rental DVDs (which play fine in any other player), and the whole unit locks up (sometimes with garbage displayed on the LED display). When this happens you need to pull the plug, as the power button both on the remote and on the unit itself becomes nonresponsive. Have also had some problems navigating the menus on some discs ("From Hell" comes to mind.) This player also has problems playing DVD-R discs -- I have had it play RITEKG04 discs fine but sometimes it will freeze or pixellate during playback of DVD-R. Had no luck at all with cheaper Princo or BeAll blanks. Haven't tried DVD+R, it may work better. If you want to use this player as an audio CD player, note that it doesn't play CD-R at all.
Disposable DVD Player.......2004-01-06
Is this a disposable DVD Player? I used it 5 times and the dvd started skipping. The 6th time it was nonfunctional. Maybe this was Oritron's, "one use and throw it away model." Forget the one star this should be zero stars. It should be called Orbit-ron because after a week you will want to throw it into the orbit.

I have used this DVD player maybe 15 times, and now it does not play DVDs. I received this as a gift, so luckily I did not pay for it. This is by far the worst piece of electronic equipment ever.

I got this DVD player for a gift. I played 3 movies on it. The picture quality was poor, the directions to use it were poor, and now it doesn't work at all! It won't even open to put a DVD in it. This DVD Player is a real junk, don't buy anything with this name on it!

This is a good DVD player. It has everything you need, at a price you can't beat. It's such a good buy. It's easy to set up and easy to use. A great first DVD player for anyone who is thinking of getting a DVD player. I wouldn't use it on my HDTV home theater, but if you just want something simple that looks good, this is the one. It has good sound and picture for the price. Haven't had any problems with it, what can I say I love it. It was cool.

This is a great little TV that seems to do everything well. The picture is pretty darned good as LCDs go--it is very brilliant and crisp, although in common with all LCD screens that I've seen it sometimes is less-than-perfect for dark scenes. The built-in speakers are mostly OK, although you in my opinion the set benefits significantly if you use bigger outboard speakers.
This is a great choice for limited space applications. I installed mine in my boat, and I love it! The kids love it! We use ours mainly to watch DVDs, and it is great for this. Panasonic quality is a joy to behold, and this TV hits the mark. Recommended.

Very good burner for beginners.......2005-08-23
This is my first DVD burner, so far, I haven't had any problems with it, the software is easy to use and installation is quick and easy. Only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have IDE cable.
SOHW-1673 - poor DVD-R movie burning........2005-06-08
I had a Lite-ON SOHW-1213s with great results, replaced it for the SOHW-1673s as an upgrade, but the results when backing up movies to DVD-R discs were very poor. Tried several brands of discs at various speeds (only RiData 4x -R media seemed to work fine), changed the unit 2 times (meaning I tried three units of the same model, even the third one had a different manufacture date), upgraded firmware and burning software, formatted the computer to start with a fresh windows and tried two different computers, etc. 5 out of 6 DVD players had skipping problems.
DVD+R movies seem to work okay.
If you intend to use this burner for data back up, it is an excellent choice, LITE-ON has a great line of products, but for backing up movies it-s definitely not recommended, unless you want to restrict your selection of media.
I didn't test the dual layer functionality.
I intend to get an LG player since my older model is no longer available.

I ordered this burner along with the Lite-On SOHD6p9s DVD-ROM drive after quite a bit of research, together for under $100.00 They replaced a NEC CD-ROM and a Lite-On CD-RW drive in my Dell 2350. After pulling the side and front covers I only had to unplug a ribbon cable, a power cable and one screw from each drive. I did NOT follow recommendation for setting jumper to master/slave. When I found that my old drives were jumpered to cable select I jumpered the new drives the same way. Just slid the old drives out and the new drives in, reattached the cables, tightened the screws and fired up the pc. Windows XP Pro recognized both drives by model number immediately. I went to Lite-On's web site and downloaded a firmware update for the burner, uninstalled Roxio, installed Nero Express 6 that came with the drives and started burning, all in about an hour. I have burned CD-Rs, CD-RWs, DVD-Rs, and DVD-RWs without a hitch, and it's fast. I have not used any double layer DVDs so cannot comment. If you buy either of these units I hope your experience is as good as mine has been, and based on my experience, I highly recommend this unit.
Good Deal !!.......2005-04-11
I bought this as my first ever DVD recordable drive. I did a bit of research on what drive to choose. I am not able to tell you in detail if this drive technically performs well. But from the experience I have had so far, it is definitely worth its sixty dollar price tag. I mean, its a CD reader burner DVD reader burner all in one (which could cost a lot more separately, and who needs dual drives...multitasking is cool but keep it real - one drive is enough). Oh, also it comes with NERO, and powerDVD which I found useful. I am happy with it 2 weeks after installing it. I know this drive will live up to its newly but fast growing reputation on the market just from the feel of it so far. The only thing I had trouble doing at first was getting windows to recognize it as a burner, probably cause I'm just slow on these things. But then I went online and found some flash bios thingy which solved the problem. People were amazed when I said I got it for 60 bux.

Yes. It's Levitating. Really. Of course it's using MAGIC to do so - the magic of magnetic repulsion and attraction that is. The Levitron is a magnetic anti-gravity top that is just as fun to setup as it is to watch in motion. Basically, you just use the included top weights to adjust to the perfect weight (which varies from location to location and surface to surface), then you adjust the legs on the base. Then spin the top, slowly lift the lifter (with top on it) until the top escapes the platform and release! Voila. A top levitating in mid air. And depending on how well you set it up, it will spin up to five full minutes! Wave your hand underneath (or anything non-metallic), and amaze your family and co-workers! And all this with no batteries - sheer magnetic wizardry! Of course it is not a piece of cake to setup. You have to observe it carefully as you are making the appropriate adjustments to the weight and to the base. It can be challenging but the reward is well worth it. Move the Levitron to another location though and you'll have to recalibrate the weights and levelers! Take the challenge and master it. It may take you five minutes, it may take longer.

I actually don't own this but sent it via Amazon.com to a friend for a holiday gift. He thinks it looks really cool and loves the idea - but still hasn't had any success in the setup. And this is a med student/ Navy nuclear submarine specialist! I have encouraged him to keep trying, but he's a little worried that his 1 1/2 year old son will have to set it up for him.
I'm a little disappointed that this gift I have sent hasn't been fully appreciated yet.
