Amazon.com Product Description
The Zen Micro digital music player from Creative Labs packs an incredible 5 GB of storage capacity into a shell small enough to sit comfortably in your jeans pocket. It also rides nicely in your hand, with a palm-fitting profile and thumb-friendly front-panel controls. It's a bit shorter than an Apple iPod Mini, yet its rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides 12 hours of continuous playback--50 percent more than iPod Mini's. The Zen Micro is compatible not merely with MP3s and WAV files, but with WMA as well. Toss in USB 2.0 connectivity and you're looking at one spiffy portable music player.
But playing isn't all the Zen Micro does. You can use it to receive FM radio (with 32 station presets to keep your favorites at the ready), and to record, either from the radio or from live sources such as voice dictation or lectures using the Zen Micro's built-in condenser microphone.
Trimmed in a luminescent blue glow and with easily visible backlit buttons, this stylish light blue player holds up to 1,250 songs (83 hours) at 128 kbps or 2,500 songs (166 hours) at lower-fidelity 64 kbps (MP3/WMA)--that's a solid week's worth of music listening, never playing the same song twice. Compatibility with Microsoft's WMA compressed-audio format grants access to over 2 million downloadable songs offered promotionally or for sale online.
Perhaps the Zen Micro's coolest attribute is its DJ feature, which will shuffle not only all the songs you've loaded or all the songs on a given album, but also, at your discretion, only the tracks you listen to most, or only those you rarely hear, taking the work out of selecting your favorites or hunting out all the music you're still getting to know.
Zen Micro's rechargeable battery is easy to replace. |
For navigation, the device features a vertical, linear touchpad designed to make searching through songs or playlists easy, quick, and fun. The unit's blue, 160 x 104-pixel, electroluminescent LCD shows key functions and song details at a glance, and you can even customize the main menu to keep right at your fingertips the features that matter most to you.
Another of the Zen Micro's handy features is its personal organizer. You'll never forget an important anniversary with the onboard calendar, and it also includes a to-do list and a contacts list, all of which sync seamlessly with Microsoft Outlook (Outlook thus required for use of these features). In addition, the device offers a sleep timer and alarm so you can drift off to sleep to the strains of one playlist and wake to a completely different one.
The Zen Micro's removable battery is easy to swap with another fully charged battery (additional batteries sold separately), extending your listening by a half-day per swap.
What's in the Box
The Zen Micro player, stereo earbud headphones, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, a USB 2.0 cable, an installation CD, a quick- start guide, and Creative MediaSource software.
Customer Reviews:
Not that great..........2007-09-13
We bought one of these for my daughter and within a month the thing would freeze up. She sent it back for repairs and left the battery in. They fixed it and sent it back without the battery and told her it would cost $40 dollars for a new battery. I was mad and wrote the head of their public relations department a letter and Creative called me the next morning and had a battery overnighted to my daughter. (hint: go to the public relations for fastest results). Then it happened again and they would send a new one (didn't have to call their PR after the first one). This happend 3 more times till my daughter quit using her sony sport headphones. Then after about 3 months the headphone jack started having problems, so she brought it to me and I fixed it. And it has worked fine since then. The same thing happened to my video zen:m using the sony headphones. Evidently there something with sony headphones and creatives MP3 players. Now my daughter has a ipod nano and seems really happy with it.
Good until..........2007-03-16
I bought my Zen Micro about a year ago. I loved it because it had great features at a great price. The music is pretty good and it holds a lot. The radio is good once you get it to tune. The way it is designed is great and the voice recording is useful.
A few weeks ago though, my problems with it started. If you charge the battery when it is half-way, it makes the battery last a LOT less. It started dieing very soon. I tried to charge it, but when you take out the battery and turn it on it goes to a recovery screen. You can't get out of it easily. It is helpful but never delete the firmware. It says you can reload it onto the player through a USB plug, but you can't easily at least. Since it was more than 60 days old, they wouldn't let me talk to them over the phone. Also, it was more than a year ago so they wouldn't even help me by e-mail. They left me with a small "knoledge database" that didn't help at all. They did say though that for $12.99 you could get a 30 minute session with a "Creative tutor." I took a search to finally find the phone number. Finally I got in contact with a person and told him my problem. He told me that I could send it in and get it repaired for $60 to $100 plus $12.99 for shipping back and whatever I pay for shipping to get there. Disgusted, I decided not to pay, and just got a new player.
So I am here to tell you that while the Zen Micro might be good, the service is absolutely terrible. Even Apple which I heard doesn't have great service has better service than Creative.
[...]
Don't buy! Fine product with bad hardware problems........2007-01-20
I got this when it first came out and like everyone else, I had the headphone jack problem. Creative wanted me to pay 90 some dollars to get it fixed. Yeah ight, for a major defect that was THEIR problem and if you weren't under warrent then too bad?!?! Not only that but the software wouldn't let me well do anything. I had to go install a new media center just to sync music. This would have been the Ipod killer if it didn't have crap service and hardware problems. Don't waste your money on Creative.
Good Initially but Won't Work Now.......2007-01-18
I loved this little guy when I first bought it (about 18 months ago). Now, it won't connect via USB (maybe one time out of 10) and it freezes up when playing. I've tried everything to clean it up and correct the problem, but it still freezes. Sadly, I'll be buying a replacement from somebody else because I liked the software and easy of use.
Unusable ... but good while it lasted........2007-01-06
As with everyone else, I have to wiggle and jiggle my headphone jack to get it even remotely close to working. This makes it not only impossible to use when running, but even when just walking or moving at all. For the same price you could get an iPod or better.

The worst toy ever.......2005-06-16
I hated it it doesent even work i turned it on and all i herd was static!!!!! Dont waste your money on something cheap. So take my advise PLEASE.
how embarrassing for motorola!.......2003-07-07
I picked up a pair of these just before a long roadtrip thinking that we could use them to talk between cars, but on every point they came up weak.
Range: Even in GMRS mode these things couldn't talk between two cars no more than a half mile apart in clear sight of each other.
Clarity: horrible - I couldn't understand the speech most of the time.
Two other features that were troublesome were the inability to lock a channel/code combination and the big dumb volume control which invariably dialed down to zero every time we put the radios in our pockets.
Battery: I picked up the optional two-radio drop-in charger and the batteries were NiCd instead of the much better and longer life (and no memory) NiMH that everyone else uses and the charger was a dumb trickle charger, not a smart charger that actually told you when the radios were charged.
Conclusion: What a joke. If I were Motorola I'd track down everyone who bought these, apologize personally and give them a real radio and a real charging system. I'm going with Cobra next time, which is sad since my t6320 was such a great radio.
Horrendous audio quality/clarity.......2003-06-29
Audio quality is so bad, it's nearly impossible to understand the caller. I bought a pair and promptly returned them. My advice: save yourself the return postage and choose a different pair.
Motorola T5820 2-Way Radio NiCd.......2003-05-09
I bought these to keep in touch with my friends snowboarding, and paintballing. I would have been better off paying for airtime on my cell phone instead of purchasing these. The audio quality on these are average to poor at best. They are not what I expected fom the Motorola corporation. A great disappointment.
Ooooppppssss !!!!.......2003-04-04
Please don't buy this radio. It's range is about the same as an FRS and it's very hard to understand what your partner is saying. I have the T-5200 Talkabout radio wich is a much better radio.

Garbage.......2006-04-28
I purchased this item at CompUSA. What a mistake. It worked for a couple of weeks, then all of a sudden it stopped working. Support told me to reinstall it, but that did not work. Support was not very helpfull and had no other options to get the product working again. [...]
Fast and Flawless!.......2006-03-23
[...]
I've already burned a dual layer 8.5G disk in no time and it played flawless. The 16X burn speed is a whole new dimension in burning...coming from a 4X. I'm using Verbatim media and each burn has been successful.
This thing accepts all types of media and you will burn disks into the night.
It comes with the full version of Roxio 7.5 which recognizes the DL disks and I love that little program compared to what I had been using.
I could not be happier with my purchase after just one day and I know I will have many, many successful burns.

Customer Reviews:
Dear Pedro's Little Friend.......2004-12-24
"Beware! This product REQUIRES the use of a PS2 port. If you have a USB only desktop or laptop, you WILL be returning this."
Funny, I have this exact same combo connected to a G5 PowerMac, which only has USB ports, and it works flawlessly. You know why? Because wireless receiver uses a USB connector, not a PS/2 connector like you said. Apparently, you're still high on the BoSox winning the World Series, you're still disillusional about everything not associated w/ BoSox.
As with ALL Microsoft and Logitech KB and Mouse products with a USB connector, the package also includes a USB > PS/2 adapter. Somebody should really read up before they pass around false info.
WARNING.......2004-08-30
Beware! This product REQUIRES the use of a PS2 port. If you have a USB only desktop or laptop, you WILL be returning this.
The mouse is a dream for lefties!.......2003-12-11
Although I haven't used the keyboard extensively, I know the key response is nice and crisp. It's definitely better than those lousy, spongy "QuietKey" keyboards that gave my carpal tunnels pain!
But the mouse is the thing, wherein we'll capture the conscience of the southpaw! Being a lefty, and one who used a right-handed optical mouse when they first came out, switching to the Logitech hand-neutral design of this mouse was a dream come true! It fits in either hand perfectly, with very comfortable contours for your thumb. Personally, I appreciate the sparse design - I don't need all those buttons all over the side of the mouse that I end up accidentally pressing. This is a basic two button mouse with an excellent scroll wheel. The optical tracking is very good on a bland mono-color mousepad.
If you're a lefty looking for wireless freedom and a simple, elegant mouse, look no further.
Now if they would just offer this EXACT package in BLUETOOTH!!!!!!!
