Amazon.com Product Description
The Zen Micro digital music player from Creative Labs packs an incredible 5 GB of storage capacity into a shell small enough to sit comfortably in your jeans pocket. It also rides nicely in your hand, with a palm-fitting profile and thumb-friendly front-panel controls. It's a bit shorter than an Apple iPod Mini, yet its rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides 12 hours of continuous playback--50 percent more than iPod Mini's. The Zen Micro is compatible not merely with MP3s and WAV files, but with WMA as well. Toss in USB 2.0 connectivity and you're looking at one spiffy portable music player.
But playing isn't all the Zen Micro does. You can use it to receive FM radio (with 32 station presets to keep your favorites at the ready), and to record, either from the radio or from live sources such as voice dictation or lectures using the built-in condenser microphone.
Trimmed in a luminescent blue glow and with easily visible backlit buttons, this stylish orange player holds up to 1,250 songs (83 hours) at 128 kbps or 2,500 songs (166 hours) at lower-fidelity 64 kbps (MP3/WMA)--that's a solid week's worth of music listening, never playing the same song twice. Compatibility with Microsoft's WMA compressed-audio format grants access to over 2 million downloadable songs offered promotionally or for sale online.
Perhaps the Zen Micro's coolest attribute is its DJ feature, which will shuffle not only all the songs you've loaded or all the songs on a given album, but also, at your discretion, only the tracks you listen to most or the ones you rarely hear, taking the work out of selecting your favorites or hunting out all the music you're still getting to know.
Zen Micro's rechargeable battery is easy to replace. |
For navigation, the device features a vertical, linear touchpad designed to make searching through songs or playlists easy, quick, and fun. The unit's blue, 160 x 104-pixel, electroluminescent LCD shows key functions and song details at a glance, and you can even customize the main menu to keep right at your fingertips the features that matter most to you.
Another of the Zen Micro's handy features is its personal organizer. You'll never forget an important anniversary with the onboard calendar, and it also includes a to-do list and a contacts list, all of which sync seamlessly with Microsoft Outlook (Outlook thus required for use of these features). Further, the device offers a sleep timer and alarm so you can drift off to sleep to the strains of one playlist and wake to a completely different one.
The Zen Micro's removable battery is easy to swap with another fully charged battery (additional batteries sold separately), extending your listening by a half-day per swap.
What's in the Box
The Zen Micro player, stereo earbud headphones, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, an AC/DC power adapter, a USB 2.0 cable, a belt clip, a stand, a stylish cloth pouch, an installation CD, a quick-start guide, and Creative MediaSource software.
Customer Reviews:
Not that great..........2007-09-13
We bought one of these for my daughter and within a month the thing would freeze up. She sent it back for repairs and left the battery in. They fixed it and sent it back without the battery and told her it would cost $40 dollars for a new battery. I was mad and wrote the head of their public relations department a letter and Creative called me the next morning and had a battery overnighted to my daughter. (hint: go to the public relations for fastest results). Then it happened again and they would send a new one (didn't have to call their PR after the first one). This happend 3 more times till my daughter quit using her sony sport headphones. Then after about 3 months the headphone jack started having problems, so she brought it to me and I fixed it. And it has worked fine since then. The same thing happened to my video zen:m using the sony headphones. Evidently there something with sony headphones and creatives MP3 players. Now my daughter has a ipod nano and seems really happy with it.
Good until..........2007-03-16
I bought my Zen Micro about a year ago. I loved it because it had great features at a great price. The music is pretty good and it holds a lot. The radio is good once you get it to tune. The way it is designed is great and the voice recording is useful.
A few weeks ago though, my problems with it started. If you charge the battery when it is half-way, it makes the battery last a LOT less. It started dieing very soon. I tried to charge it, but when you take out the battery and turn it on it goes to a recovery screen. You can't get out of it easily. It is helpful but never delete the firmware. It says you can reload it onto the player through a USB plug, but you can't easily at least. Since it was more than 60 days old, they wouldn't let me talk to them over the phone. Also, it was more than a year ago so they wouldn't even help me by e-mail. They left me with a small "knoledge database" that didn't help at all. They did say though that for $12.99 you could get a 30 minute session with a "Creative tutor." I took a search to finally find the phone number. Finally I got in contact with a person and told him my problem. He told me that I could send it in and get it repaired for $60 to $100 plus $12.99 for shipping back and whatever I pay for shipping to get there. Disgusted, I decided not to pay, and just got a new player.
So I am here to tell you that while the Zen Micro might be good, the service is absolutely terrible. Even Apple which I heard doesn't have great service has better service than Creative.

Don't buy! Fine product with bad hardware problems........2007-01-20
I got this when it first came out and like everyone else, I had the headphone jack problem. Creative wanted me to pay 90 some dollars to get it fixed. Yeah ight, for a major defect that was THEIR problem and if you weren't under warrent then too bad?!?! Not only that but the software wouldn't let me well do anything. I had to go install a new media center just to sync music. This would have been the Ipod killer if it didn't have crap service and hardware problems. Don't waste your money on Creative.
Good Initially but Won't Work Now.......2007-01-18
I loved this little guy when I first bought it (about 18 months ago). Now, it won't connect via USB (maybe one time out of 10) and it freezes up when playing. I've tried everything to clean it up and correct the problem, but it still freezes. Sadly, I'll be buying a replacement from somebody else because I liked the software and easy of use.
Unusable ... but good while it lasted........2007-01-06
As with everyone else, I have to wiggle and jiggle my headphone jack to get it even remotely close to working. This makes it not only impossible to use when running, but even when just walking or moving at all. For the same price you could get an iPod or better.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful Radio!.......2006-12-08
I have had the 6250 for about three years now and love it! Awesome range, very clear, nice and compact and was a great value. I agree with the other comments on wondering why they discontinued it. I love the scan feature, it even has an incomming signal strength meter that gives you a good idea of how close the other person/persons are. Very cool. I use the NOAA Weather feature often as well. Since I use it most often for hunting I have the ear bud and "push to talk button" accessory so as to keep transmission quiet. Just last week it took a 20' straight -down tumble out of my treestand and it never phased it (wheew)! Can't say enough - great radio! Don't hesitate if you find one for sale!! I should have bought 2.
Simply the best two way radios.......2006-09-08
Of all of products out there, this one is well made, has great sound quality, excellent reception, and small compact size without compromising performance. If you can find them on ebay or someplace else, buy them.
Too bad Motorola stopped making these, I wonder why. I am writing this review after two years of experience with this model as well as having used other brands and models of Motorola.
Excellent.......2003-05-13
Weather feature is great.
Very Compact.
Most features used and neccessary-not like higher models.
Great scan feature.
Very easy to use.
I love the easily detachable clip feature.
Excellent and now unavailable as a new item; buy it used........2003-02-10
Motorola no longer builds this radio. Buy it used here if it's available. Motorola really blew it by not continuing to make this item. Cobra and Audivox quickly moved in to fill some of the voids left by the exit of this item from the market. Maybe Motorla thought it had other customer information on the features that most people want. The result: every other Motorola consumer 2-way radio, except for the t7200 (much more expensive), has fewer features, is much bulkier, and in most cases, inferior, to this unit. For example the t5950 has NOAA weather channels, but no alert for severe weather bulletins. Why take away such a basic complementary feature? I don't get it.
I preface this review by stating that I purchased this radio primarily for its weather radio feature (not many others have it) and I use it only on FRS channels so far.
This radio has an unparalleled wealth of useful features for its price. I have found the following features useful, and you'll have to pay more to get them on another radio.
--Voice scrambling: Good but it takes time to adapt to it.
--Scanning: An awesome feature; scans all 22 channels quickly.
--Weather radio: Excellent. I get three channels in the Chicago area.
--Range (FRS): In an outer-suburb setting you do get 2 miles.
--Vox: Hands free does work but it takes time to adapt to it.
--Batteries: Uses 3 AA batteries. Other manufacturer's comparable radios take 4 AAA, thus representing a bigger expense over time for batteries.
--Size: Comparable radios from other manufacturers are much larger than this unit.
--Shortcomings. Battery case does not seal totally, but it has not fallen off during my use. The PTT button is on the front, though it has not been as much of an inconvenience as I thought it would be.
I upgraded to this from the Motrola 5420 (sold in pairs), itself an excellent FRS radio. I have found this unit to be equal or superior in all comparable respects (except for the PTT button on the front, and battery lid sealing), and I have yet to upgrade its use to GMRS--the license costs $75.00 per household for five years.
Almost perfect!.......2002-12-22
I find this item to be small and compact. Light weight and easy to use. I love the weather station feature and the VOX hands free capability... without having to purchase an accessory! And the range, this is definitely NOT a kids toy. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the location of the "talk" button. Not that I have a better suggestion... but I think it's just a little awkward. But overall a great value for the money.

WRONG CAMERA.......2006-05-12
On 3-24-06 I ordered a Minox Leica III-F black sub-miniature camera model #60502 from Willoughby's. The order was through Amazon. I wanted it for my collection; I also wanted its companion, the chrome classic verison model #60500. Again through Amazon, I ordered the 60500 on 3-31-06. The package arrived in a timely manner, all the paper work was correct, but it was the wrong camera. Willoughby's had sent another black 60502!
I emailed Amazon. They said to contact Willoughy's. I did, numerous times. I never did receive a response to any of my emails; even the last one, when I only asked if they ever planned on contacting me. I will never do business with Willoughb's again.

Customer Reviews:
Nice features. Range doesn't live up to claim........2003-06-14
Love the features, but the range is not as advertised. In my test I used channel 22 on high power. 1/2 mile was about the best it could do. I bought to use playing paintball, so it should be okay for that, but I was also hoping to use it at places like large malls and theme parks to coordinate with the wife in kids. Oh well.
7 miles? no! 5Miles? no! 1 Mile? If your lucky.......2003-06-02
I coulnt even get 1 mile. Plain and Simple Dont waste your money. I have gotten farther range on cheap FRS Radios. The GMRS doesnt get any more range.
Not a 7 miler, not a 3 miler, maybe not 2 miles..........2003-05-27
Disappointing, thats about all I can say. I wasn't expecting to get the claimed 7 miles on land (who knows, it may get 5-7 on the water), but I have trouble just getting 1 mile on the land. Seems a small hill can even ruin the range. When I do get through the sound is clear, little to no squaks or breaks, and the privacy channels work well. Vibrating alert is very nice. It's just so very lacking in the range. I even took the time to register with the FDA so I could use the GMRS range legaly. Oh well.
