bought this for a family member who loves it.......2007-01-18

their favorite color is purple too so they are loving it. The performance of it is good. It was missing the charger so I had to buy it - was told by seller that creative no longer includes it in their packages and suggested I use the plug it came with that attaches to the computer to charge up. That took forever. I bought the charger at the creative website since it charges up faster using that. Would highly recommend for someone who likes music but doesn't have a huge collection. It holds roughly about 1,000 songs.

Not that great..........2007-09-13

We bought one of these for my daughter and within a month the thing would freeze up. She sent it back for repairs and left the battery in. They fixed it and sent it back without the battery and told her it would cost $40 dollars for a new battery. I was mad and wrote the head of their public relations department a letter and Creative called me the next morning and had a battery overnighted to my daughter. (hint: go to the public relations for fastest results). Then it happened again and they would send a new one (didn't have to call their PR after the first one). This happend 3 more times till my daughter quit using her sony sport headphones. Then after about 3 months the headphone jack started having problems, so she brought it to me and I fixed it. And it has worked fine since then. The same thing happened to my video zen:m using the sony headphones. Evidently there something with sony headphones and creatives MP3 players. Now my daughter has a ipod nano and seems really happy with it.

Good until..........2007-03-16

I bought my Zen Micro about a year ago. I loved it because it had great features at a great price. The music is pretty good and it holds a lot. The radio is good once you get it to tune. The way it is designed is great and the voice recording is useful.

A few weeks ago though, my problems with it started. If you charge the battery when it is half-way, it makes the battery last a LOT less. It started dieing very soon. I tried to charge it, but when you take out the battery and turn it on it goes to a recovery screen. You can't get out of it easily. It is helpful but never delete the firmware. It says you can reload it onto the player through a USB plug, but you can't easily at least. Since it was more than 60 days old, they wouldn't let me talk to them over the phone. Also, it was more than a year ago so they wouldn't even help me by e-mail. They left me with a small "knoledge database" that didn't help at all. They did say though that for $12.99 you could get a 30 minute session with a "Creative tutor." I took a search to finally find the phone number. Finally I got in contact with a person and told him my problem. He told me that I could send it in and get it repaired for $60 to $100 plus $12.99 for shipping back and whatever I pay for shipping to get there. Disgusted, I decided not to pay, and just got a new player.

So I am here to tell you that while the Zen Micro might be good, the service is absolutely terrible. Even Apple which I heard doesn't have great service has better service than Creative.

Don't buy! Fine product with bad hardware problems........2007-01-20

I got this when it first came out and like everyone else, I had the headphone jack problem. Creative wanted me to pay 90 some dollars to get it fixed. Yeah ight, for a major defect that was THEIR problem and if you weren't under warrent then too bad?!?! Not only that but the software wouldn't let me well do anything. I had to go install a new media center just to sync music. This would have been the Ipod killer if it didn't have crap service and hardware problems. Don't waste your money on Creative.

Good Initially but Won't Work Now.......2007-01-18

I loved this little guy when I first bought it (about 18 months ago). Now, it won't connect via USB (maybe one time out of 10) and it freezes up when playing. I've tried everything to clean it up and correct the problem, but it still freezes. Sadly, I'll be buying a replacement from somebody else because I liked the software and easy of use.

As with everyone else, I have to wiggle and jiggle my headphone jack to get it even remotely close to working. This makes it not only impossible to use when running, but even when just walking or moving at all. For the same price you could get an iPod or better.

MAC Tv Card.......2007-01-03

Good product and I'm amazed that Amazon was able to have it on my doorstep the next day. This damn card is impossible to find in stock anywhere.

WORD OF CAUTION THOUGH:

It's not compatible with the G5 PCI Express slots. I had to keep it in my G4 and get a different one for the G5.

Otherwise it's an excellent product and Amazon's service was great.

Some good, some very bad........2005-06-30

The Good:

* Multiple video inputs (one RCA, one coaxial, and one supervideo.)

* Effective image-enhancement technology to de-interlace, smooth jaggies and even out colors at higher resolutions.

* Easy programming of video recording using a web site; you can set up the recording of a show with a single mouse-click. Although it lacks some of the abilities of TiVO, it generally makes an effective personal video recorder.

* The remote control can be set up to run other programs, or to run the TV viewer even when it's in the background.

* Miglia has shown a real commitment to continuing to improve the software.

* Stable. Crashes are virtually unheard of with the newer versions of the software.

The Bad:

* Power hungry. Although it can minimally run on as little as a G4 400, you'll want something closer to a 1 ghz processor for decent video quality/frame rates while watching. Recording video is even more demanding.

* From the start, the software has been plagued by bugs. Fortunately, most of these bugs have been fixed in subsequent releases, but you may still encounter some strange little things.

* The remote control has the poorest ergonomics I've ever seen. The buttons require an unusually high amount of pressure focussed on a very small area to 'click', making it often difficult to quickly or reliably enter channel numbers. All of the buttons feel the same; there is no easily identifiable-by-touch volume or channel up-down buttons (as you expect on a TV remote.) The infrared transmitter is clearly underpowered; it's range is short under the best of conditions, and you often have to carefully point it at the IR receiver pod to get it to work. If you want a remote that wasn't designed by amateurs, consider the vastly superior ATI Wonder remote (which can be had for about $30.)

* Even with image enhancement, watching TV off the coaxial input with the AlchemyTV card doesn't always look as good as it does on a conventional TV, with some graininess/static/fuzziness. Digital cable boxes or satellite tuners can provide a significantly stronger signal/better image.

* Sometimes mind-bogglingly poor human interface design. The software routinely makes the user work a little too hard to accomplish basic tasks. For instance, there's no volume slider; you must click volume up/down buttons. You can program the remote's "power" button to open OR close the TV viewing window, but not both; if you want to be able to open and close the TV window from the remote, you have to assign two buttons; one for each task.

* Some missing features, such as the ability to re-compress previously recorded video with a different codec (important if you don't have a dual G5 to record directly into the space-saving MPEG4 format.)

* Somewhat sluggish tuner; there is a distinct delay while switching channels (although not as bad as with a satellite TV tuner.)

All in all, this isn't a bad product. It does the job, if imperfectly. It's just disappointing that what could have been a great product with better design is just an OK one. Still, it deserves your consideration.

TV G5.......2004-09-27

This product really adds extra functionality to your PowerMac. Installation involves adding the card to a free PCI slot in your G5 and installing the software. 15 minutes in all. I receive all broadcast stations and the software automatically names the stations with a TV guide lookup based on your zip code. I assume one can get premium stations if you connect the AlchemyTV card directly to your cable box. The remote control is awesome and really lets you use your Mac as a TV. Great way to save space if there is no room for a TV. Picture quality isn't perfect but acceptable. Recording feature is awesome and intergrates with iCal for scheduled recordings. You can buy 3rd party software to burn recorded material on to a DVD.
In short, this product is well worth the cost and truly makes the Mac your digital hub.

TV on my Mac G5.......2004-05-04

I'll keep this brief...it's fantastic. I can wqatch TV, record shows during the day straight to HD, then watch them at my leisure. This version has a remote control (there's apparently one that ships for less but doesn't include the remote or DVR software.

With the iCal integration, they give me a website that lists all the shows fore the date you select. Nice and easy to use and my daughter now uses it - she's 9!

buy it - great little card.
