I wish someone had told me that. It doesn't say this anywhere in the specs. It only mentions "minimum requirements."

I've had my Creative Zen 6 GB for almost a year now. It was a little hard to learn, but once you learn it is easy to use. I have 1424 songs on mine and its still not full. Love the sound of it. I would recommend it to anyone, thats tried of portable cd players and wants something smaller and that will hold twice as many songs.

I have owned my Creative Zen micro for two years now. I have never once had it crash on me and syncing music to my zen is quick. I also have been pretty hard on it. Ive dropped it more times than i can count and it still works perfectly. It has great battory life and the touchpad is easy to use. Also a nice feature is that i can customize it to make surfing through easier.

I must be the only owner (I have the 5mb model) not to have had the earphone jack problem. But there is still much not to like. To wit:
1. touch pad is too sensitive. It's nearly impossible to get the track I want.
2. The rewind doesn't work and just jumps to the beginning of the track.
3. the battery discharges even when the player is turned off.
4. it's often hard to get the battery to recharge. It takes a bit of fiddling, removing and replacing the battery, to get it to start charging.
5. The fast forward is hard to use; it's difficult to get to where you want in the track.

On the latter point, I should explain that I listen to 1-hour news shows, not 3-minute songs, so it's important to me to be able to fast forward and rewind.

The feature of picking up where you left off only works if you leave the battery in and pick up within a particular time. If you try recharging the battery, it will come up on the right track but at the beginning of it.

The battery has gradually deteriorated since I got it (Dec 05) so that it now is hard to recharge and a charge only lasts about an hour. I just ordered a new battery and think I may have made a mistake. Wish I'd red these reviews first.

If you're looking for a high-quality FRS radio with great sound quality and don't need a long transmission range, the Sony ICB-U655 is an ideal choice. Use it to keep in touch with your group when skiing, hunting, taking car trips, visiting amusement parks, or shopping at the mall.

The ICB-U655 is relatively compact, thanks in part to its swing-down antenna. It's more rugged than most FRS radios, and the sturdy design is complemented by a metal hoop that keeps the volume knob from snapping off if the radio is dropped. Rubber plugs keep the AC power jack, headphone jack, and microphone jack free of debris; and rubber-coated buttons help prevent grit from making its way into the unit.

Selecting one of the 14 available channels is easy, thanks to the large "+" and "-" buttons; and a simple switch on the front makes it easy to select whether these buttons select the channel or the subcode. (There are 38 such subcodes for each channel, making it easy to find an available frequency in crowded locations.)

In our tests of the ICB-U655, the radio's range never exceeded 1 mile, regardless of the terrain or conditions. However, the sound quality was far superior to that of many similar radios we've tested, coming across crystal clear when we were within the 1-mile range.

I have tried almost every single FRS radio available, I sellelectronics... Here are my observations. I have personally tried and used all of the Motorola units that I sell, that is the talkabout 250, talkabout basic, talkabout 101, & 280 slk. I also sell the Midland Micro-II, Kenwood & Conair, these being the less expensive units and if you are considering something [that costs] less then the Kenwood is probably the best in that area. If your consideration is quality first, price second, then there is no comparison. The Sony is BY FAR the very best unit I have personally ever used. The clarity exceeds every other FRS out there, regardless of price. The 2 mile distance claimed by all FRS radios is very subjective. All frs radios are regulated to the same micro-wattage and therefore are basically the same in identical conditions. For instance, good low cloud cover will extend the range. I have used the Sony to speak with someone at just over 2-1/2 miles away one cloudy evening, I have not been able to do that since though. The Sony has every possible feature to compete with any other unit out there but let's face it, what matters is sound quality. If you can't understand what the other person is saying, then all of the buttons and gadgets in the world won't help. The Sony is by far the clearest unit out there when held properly, a few inches from your mouth, not IN your mouth which is the natural tendency of most people, including myself. I do not sell the Sony U-CEIVER but it is the only unit I will even consider owning. I own 2 by the way, bought 'em right here.

Not High Quality.......2000-06-23

After receiving the Sony U655, I was so disappointed with its range and sound quality I obtained a Motorola 280 to compare. I didn't know if the poor quality was the Sony or all FRS 2-way radios. The Sony transmission was broken-up even at close range. The Motorola was nice and clear. I need a radio that I can use while paddling in my kayak, so hands free is important. I visited the Sony web site and called their customer service to try to obtain information on any hands free accessory. Sony has a separate mic and ear plug, but it is not voice activated. The Motorola has Voice Activation capabilities. I will be returning the Sony tomorrow. Sony does not appear to be seriously in the FRS 2-way radio business at the present time.

The Sony ICB-U655 two-way radio lets a person talk and listen to another user who, in unobstructed terrain, can be up to two miles away. This radio operates on 14 channels with a frequency range of 462.5625 to 462.7125 MHz and of 467.5625 to 467.7125 MHz, each with 38 privacy codes. The group talk feature lets you easily communicate with everyone in your group even if other group members have selected channels different from yours.

Only 2.38 by 4.5 by 1.19 inches, the compact ICB-U655 runs on three AA batteries or accepts an optional AC power adapter or 12/24-volt Sony car battery adapter. The battery-saving auto power-off function alerts you before turning off the radio. The illuminated LCD screen also has a built-in power indicator. A belt clip and a manufacturer's warranty of one year on parts and 90 days on labor are included.

poorly functioning radios.......2000-07-05

We waited for our delivery with great expectation. When the units arrived we were happy, that is until we tried the units. We were not able the reach the 2 mile range that was advertised. Nor could we reach 1 mile, nor 1/2 mile. In fact I think we did better yelling out the window. We returned these and got the Motorola units, and they worked wonderfully!

Poor Radio.......2000-03-12

I am an electronics enthusiast, this radio just didn't cut it, it may have an attractive case but don't judge a book by it's cover. Poor sound quality, most people would have great difficulty reading the instructions, weird layout, I personally recommend the Motorola Talkabouts, as one of the previous reviews stated that he had two Motorola's that failed to the elements, he must have been dipping it in and out of a pool or something, actually I have done that, I jumped in a pool with the radio on me, with no case, bag, or any protection for a full minute(typical me!), let it dry, 2 hours later, good as new. The motorolas are your best pick.

The perfect radio for your needs.......2000-01-01

This is an amazing product. It is one of the best products out there. It is extremely good but I think that Kenwood was better. I would give it a 4 1/2, but that was not an option on the writing reviews. The capabilities that you can do on it is amazing, so perfect, almost as good as the Kenwood. The product is so durable and capable of committing all your business, sports and other activities for you. I think that the water resistant feature is a one you won't find often.

When I buy anything, I thoroughly research most products available. This I must say was the best radio out there! The sound quality is absolutely superior, and not only blew the others away (including Motorola talk about, Kenwood and a few others) it was the most convenient to use. With its keylock, it prevents from accidentally being turned off or the channel being changed. The range is excellent and its small compact size is very convenient. The only drawback is that the ringer is not that convenient to use (which I don't really use anyway.) I am in the process of buying another one and would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a 2-way radio! I never realized just how convenient these were for things like keeping together at parades, parks, shopping malls, camping, and a lot more activities we have done. Sony FRS radio.......1999-12-14

I have been a FRS radio user for a couple of years now. Our family uses them for skiing, climbing, camping and crowded public events. I am trying out the Sony because of its small size and the fact that it is water resistant. Of the 4 Motorola radios that I bought last year, 2 have failed due to damage from the elements. The Sonys work fine with the Motorola radios. The special features are set up oddly, but as I only use them for basic talk/listen that is not an issue. One feature I do use is the ability to lock the panel, which is good if kids are using them, so they don't end up on the wrong channel or code. The instructions are very confusing.
