Good and easy to setup, but nothing extraordinary here.......2007-08-29

Nice wireless router, easy to set, I've never had any internet hiccups, and it's on all the time. The bad things? First of all, its range: I live in a condo, and when I'm in the other room, signal weakens to 60-70% (drywalls, no concrete here). I can't imagine what would happen if I lived in a house. Speed is fine, even on 20-30% of the full signal range. Oh yes, one more problem: when my laptop goes to standby/sleep modes, when I awake him, my internet is gone. I have to restart either the router or the laptop itself. Not sure whether this is the problem with the router or my computer.
Overall, what would you expect for app. 30$? Good value for this price.

Not worth the money.......2007-08-24

I have used this router for over a year now, and I have finally had enough of the darn thing needing to be unplugged for 5-10 mins after any power hiccup. I've never tried the 'freezer method' that Uwe uses (see below), but I have the exact same issue on a Rev D product. The reset button is useless... I am buying a Linksys this time. Maybe I can dump this one on eBay.

Unreliable-customer support LOL.......2007-08-13

I purchased the D-Link DI-524 and installed it fairly easily, and I'm no computer wiz. It worked fine for about 3 weeks and then it would lose the Internet connection every other day or so. Then it got worse. I called D-Link support and waited about 40 minutes to talk to someone and was told the warranty had expired and they could not help me. I will never buy another D-Link product.

Not for permanent connections.......2007-07-16

I bought a DI-524 about 2 years ago for our home network. We are connected to a microwave link, so it is an ALWAYS ON connection. The router works... most of the time. Sometimes we lose the internet, usually after a power outage. The problem is the router. Unplugging it from the power supply for a while and then plugging it back in works... but not always, unless you leave it unplugged overnight. The reset button will work sometimes and not on other ocassions. The only surefire way I have gotten this router to sucessfully reset EVERY TIME is to take the unit, unplug it and put it into the freezer (yes, the home freezer for food stuff) for about 5 to 10 minutes. My analysis: Some electronic component inside the unit may get to warm and then hang the whole darn thing. The unit gets warm but not very. Go figure...
If you plan on powering the unit down every night before you go to bed it might work for you. If you planing on having a permanent connection, beware! It may run fine for weeks on end and then crash every other day for a while.
I would NOT buy it again but would spent a few bucks more for something more reliable!
For what it's worth...

I quit D-Link starting from DI-524.......2007-06-16

Previously I used purely D-Link: DI-634Mimo router, 2 DP-311U print servers, 3 D-Link PCI adapters. After 1 year (the timing is just right for the manufacturer, 1 year warantee is expired) DI-634m dead then I bought this DI-625. Price is very low but I didn't know stability is low as well.

After a really fast installation, every 2 to 3 hours the DI524 just disconnected. After numerous hours trying, I found this DI524rev.D is not stable. Return it (bought it from local Fry's, sorry, not Amazon.com) and bought a Netgear WPN824v2 mimo there ($59.99). It's worked as a router supposed to be. Then DP-311U not working since the DP use 192.168.0.X, not 192.168.1.X as Netgear's IP range. Heard it can be changed from 0 to 1 but requierd some efforts. Luckily I found frys.com has refurbished Netgear WGPS606 for sale at $29.99. I bought it and it just worked again! Now one WGPS606 hooked up 2 printers. I didn't try WGPS606 ethernet cabled to 4 computers.

D-Link may have some good products but at least DI-524 not worked for me and from now, I quit from D-Link.

I would think the Netgear is a good deal. $59.99 + $29.99 I got a mimo router and a print server for 2 printers (and 4 computers).

Great TV.......2004-09-21

Well to put in a nutshell, I bought this tv at a local pawn shop here in Dallas, Tx. And they had it for $299. I bought it and i must say that the tv has a GREAT PICTURE for the price. It has all the inputs and outputs that i need. Also it has a one tuner PIP. TV sound is great thanks to Incredible Surround. I only wish that it had a two tuner PIP and a S-Video plug on the front input. But other then that. it is a solid tv!!!

Surprisingly they seem more comfortable than the original N64 controllers and your hand is more free to move around to shift into different positions for different games etc.. Also the plastic seems to be of good quality, the turbo and slow functions work well, and the control stick is designed in such a way that you're less likely to develop blisters. My only complaint is that the control stick is less precise which can be a pain in FPS but when I play those I usually just use my Interact controller.

N64 Ice Controller .......2007-05-19

It works. The joystick is a little weird - it seems a lot more sensitive than the other controllers, but that might just be because they are much older. Still, playing Goldeneye it made targeting very difficult. At first it didn't even seem to work with Goldeneye at all, but after a few times unplugging and plugging it back in and resetting it began to work. I normally wouldn't buy 3rd party controllers because I have never liked them very much, but in this case I couldn't find any genuine controllers that weren't extremely expensive. I recommend this only if you don't play the system that often and your original controller breaks.

I have the 160GB drive and after wasting 5 hours of trying to download my files there was nothing in the directory, now I have to try to re-format the whole thing...I will return it tomorrow!!! Stay away from Maxtor drives. There was absolutely nothing simple about it...One Touch are you kidding!!!!

This drive is great. One of the best things is the full metal casing - it's not like the cheap plastic casings of most harddrives. USB2.0 and Firewire interface. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

2nd Maxtor Drive Failed in 2 Years.......2007-05-31

I bought this drive in Feb of 2005. Five months later, it crapped out. Maxtor sent me another one and I was able to recover nearly everything with the assistance of some great computer people. Not even a year after receiving the new drive, it failed today! It's clicking and squeaking. Not the sound you want from your hard drive. I am terrified to buy a Seagate drive now that they have acquired/bought Maxtor. I am not sure where I will turn from here, but I will NEVER buy another Maxtor product -- waranteed or not. My data is too valuable to trust to this company.

Buyer Beware!.......2007-02-10

This drive has been nothing but trouble since I bought it. For most of the time the problem was that it was always "iffy" whether or not the drive would be recognized by any of the multiple computers I connected it to. Sometimes the drive would not be recognized until it was connected for 15 or so minutes. Other times it was never recognized at all.
I chanced upon this Amazon review area a few moments ago while doing an online search in Google for "Maxtor external hard drive fail heat" because for a couple of months now (!) this drive has been dead. I have tons of files on it that I'd like to save but at the moment nothing I've tried to revive it has worked. The Maxtor/Seagate website is useless, and before that I'd contacted its Customer Service which was equally unhelpful.
I bought this (and another smaller Maxtor drive which has not been as trouble-prone) because I *thought* Maxtor meant quality. Boy am I disappointed!
At this time I only want to salvage the many gigs of files on this drive, if possible, and burn them to DVDs as this drive is on its last legs.
I will never buy another Maxtor drive, no question about it! :-(

Do not buy this - Unreliable.......2007-01-13

After less that 8 months my Maxtor one touch II 300 gb external hard drive bit the dust. I bought it in May 2006. I just read the reviews listed here and was amazed at how many people lost data and had the drive crash. I called the company and they said it would be very expensive for me to recover the data. I lost many irreplaceable documents and after only 8 months of use you would figure that the company would bend over to help me retrieve them. Instead they want top dollar to help me retrieve my own documents on a lousy storage device they designed. After reading these review I don't want a replacement drive from the Company as it's only a matter of time before I lose the data that is stored on it. Don't buy it and save yourself a lot of headaches.

About Digital Video Recorders
A Digital Video Recorder (DVR) takes video signals from security cameras and converts the video stream into a digital format for storage on an internal hard drive. A DVR also provides a user interface to remotely manage many functions of the video files and cameras, including motion detection and pan/tilt/zoom features. At a minimum, a DVR should allow multiple users to view multiple cameras remotely. Effective video compression is one of the most important considerations when looking at DVRs. The most common video compression formats used in video surveillance are M-JPEG and MPEG-4.
