It had the latest firmware and wireless protocols installed, and the web-based configuration interface has well organized pages of setup options. The Help pages are actually helpful. As with any networking device it is good to be a little familiar with TCP/IP so you can handle minor annoyances like giving your computer a temporary static IP address in the same subnet range as the DWL-7100AP so you can communicate with it during configuration (This is explained in the manual). Afterwards, I was able to change my computer back to dynamic IP addressing, and still access the configuration pages of the DWL-7100AP. It will work just fine right out of the box with default settings, but as with any wireless access point, better security can be had by creating your own SSID name, disabling broadcast of the SSID, changing the default user ID and password, using MAC filtering so that only your computers will be accepted by the access point, and enabling data encryption. The DWL-7100AP allows you to use two kinds of WPA encryption, which is much more secure than WEP. I highly recommend this product and it's well-written manual. Some users report having their connection dropped frequently. I found that interference from 2.4 Gigahertz portable telephones in my house was the culprit for dropped connections on the 802.11g band, which is in the same frequency band as the phones. Since I switched to the 802.11a band (5 Gigahertz) I very seldom have dropped connections from the DWL-7100AP.

A disaster.......2006-04-11

This is probably the most awful wireless device I've bought to date. Not only does it reboot itself every few hours, but it drops packets at a horrific rate. Looking at the stats, it says it only has a 20% transmission success rate... my wireless devices are in the same room! The only positive is when it is working, it streams media without so much a hiccup.

good performance.......2006-01-22

I use two of these on the 11a band as bridges between two wired networks. They are 30 feet apart and can see each other down a hallway with obstructions that nearly block the line of sight from both sides. I have both set on quarter power. The status indicates no errors on either direction.

The manual that came with the equipment leaves a lot to be desired. For instance, it did not say that WAP-PSK TKIP mode is not available for bridges, just access points.

DWL-7100 AP as an AP Client is terrible.......2005-12-18

I'm not sure how the 7100 is supposed to work as a repeater but as an AP Client linked with the DI-784 it simply won't stay connected. I'm running the latest firmware on both devices,DWL-7100ap is running v2.00 and teh DI-784 is running v2.38. I've tried multiple configs for the encryption, different radio channels while the 2 devices are only sitting 2ft apart and it still won't keep a connection.

Tech support isn't helpful either, long hold times and operators that don't actually listen to the problem.

I can't reccomend this product, I think one star is still too many stars.

Replaced a LinkSys 802.11a+b access point.......2004-08-26

I upgraded from a LinkSys 802.11a+g PCI card in my daughter's computer to a DLink 802.11a+g card. At that time, I had a LinkSys 802.11a+b access point. The signal strenght jumped from very low to good. I believe this is due to the antenna design of the DLink PCI card. It is separate from the circuit card and connects with a 6' cable. This allows placement of the antenna on top of a computer desk hutch instead of on the back of the computer which may be on the floor.

I thought that if I upgraded the access point to a DLink I'd see another jump in signal strenght. I also wanted to pick up the 802.11g standard that my LinkSys access point was missing.

The upgrade from the LinkSys access point to the DLink did not provide any noticable improvement in signal quality. The signal strenght to the DLink PCI card was still only good. I did get 802.11g which helps with the business laptop I have but I was hoping for a little bit better signal strenght which was not found.

The firmware on the access point was old and I did have to download and apply an update. I had no problems doing this but have a lot of experience since I manage a network at work with over 200 802.11b access points (Symbol & Cisco).

Overall, I love the DLink PCI card (802.11a/b/g) and like the DLink access point. Being one of the cheap access points out I'd recommend it to any one looking for a wireless solution.

Very handy card reader.......2005-10-17

I have had this xD card reader from Olympus for about four months now. I chose this model because of the small size, and I am very pleased with it.

Once you put the reader in your USB drive, you can copy and/or manipulate the files (pictures) on the card. My only caution is that if you want to be able to still view the pictures on the card from within the camera, do not make any changes to them while the card/reader is in the USB drive. Specifically, don't rotate them while in the reader-- if you do, when you put the card back into your camera, it will no longer recognize the photos that you rotated. The file format from editing on PC must be slightly different from what the camera uses.

Olympus MAUSB100 xD Picture USB Card Reader .......2005-09-28

This card reader is very small and light which makes it very portable. It also makes the movable parts on it quite tiny. I don't understand why a "locking device" is needed to keep the memory card in it. The card fits quite snugly and wouldn't come out under ordinary circumstances, so this seems to be an extra step for no particular reason. I've only used it to unload photos onto my computer one time so far, but it worked well.

Handy xD reader.......2004-09-30

For twenty bucks, you can't go wrong. Plugs into your USB port, and the computer recognizes it as just another drive. It's sized just like one of those key chain USB devices, but you chose how much memory it has by plugging in your own xD memory card. I pop the xD card out of my camera, put it in the reader, slide the latch and plug it into the computer's USB port to down load my pictures. Slick.

Olympus getting it right!.......2004-04-24

I read with concern the large number of reviews in which users have problenms with flash drives including this Olympus MAUSB100.
Could these user failures be related to misuse or improper shutdown?? Am using it with Win98 and it works just as advertised. I download my photos and then follow the disconnect procedure. Have also uploaded and downloaded mp3 files...again with 100% success. The unit does get very warm and this does concern me, however, being aware of this issue forces me to not leave it active any longer than the task requires. Afterall, it isn't a true hard drive and should be treated with care. Fuji also has a very reliable unit with similar features. I do like this product and will most likely purchase a 2nd one....

Avoid this TV.......2006-03-20

Thought I was getting a great TV at a great price. I had this TV for less than three years, with NOT a lot of viewing time on it and a major component goes out on it that caused red blurry images. The cost to fix this ($400+) was too much considering the value of the TV. If you want a nice picture and TV for a couple of years and then have it break, then this TV is for you. If you want a quality product that will last longer than a typical Hollywood marriage, avoid this TV like the plague.

Purchased TV 15 months ago. Major circuit board went after 15 months. Tried to get them to agree to help on part cost or labor cost but they refused. Repair price is $800+ parts and labor. If you buy this get the extended warranty or be where I am with a high definition paper weight.

Good price for a great TV.......2006-11-10

We got this TV for about $160 cheaper than it cost at Best Buy, and that's including shipping and taxes. It shipped quickly, as usual, the quality of picture is excellent, and the design of the TV itself is simple yet elegant.

Should have started with a Sony.......2006-01-04

18 months ago we purchased a Philips 180MT combination monitor TV - the apparent equivalent of this Sony. After 13 months, it went black and we sent it to their warranty department, expecting them to replace it within the five days promised. After weeks with no word we called and were told they no longer made it and had no parts to repair it. We were sent a refurbished model with a smaller screen and no PIP feature. After five more months of calls, we were sent another model, again inferior to the original. When I plugged it in, it went up in smoke! I called and finally got connected to someone with authority and a true concern for customer service who refunded our original cost.

We bought the MFM-HT95 with high hopes and it has delivered. The picture is as good as I have ever seen for both TV and PC. The PC reviewers were more critical than I, but I am not a gamer and the lighting in our kitchen does not interfere with viewing. The colors wash out slightly from off center but it is still a good picture. I had trouble with the sleep mode but when I talked to the tech support staff, they gave me a fax number to send a copy of my invoice and they would send out a brand new unit. Alas, it was my fault for not using the Sony supplied cable - everything works fine. It is also a very handsome machine that graces our desktop. It is everything you would expect from Sony. I wish this model had been available 18 months ago.

Oh my God, Oh my God.......2005-09-05

Wow,
I am a gamer (BF2, CS, and so on and so on...) and this monitor is totally fine! No ghosting unless you really really really look for it and/or you have a crappy video card (but then you'll ghost on a CRT anyway). This monitor has a remote to set it to different levels of brigtness, easily, with one being a setting to match the light level in the room. It also have 3 sized of picture in picture that you can put in 4 different locations and has inputs for PC1, PC2, video 1 and video 2 as well. So you can easily hook up VCRs, DVD players etc... Overall, this is such an amazing monitor with NO DEAD PIXELS (at least for me) that I can't stand that I didn't get one earlier. Of all the things I've bought in the past year, this is for sure, 100% the coolest and as my friend Mike Fairchild said "the monitor is the one thing you ALWAYS are interacting with on your computer, so get a good one and get a BIG one." This is some of the best advice I've ever gotten, espeically seeing that I use my computer for mail, shopping, work!, and gaming. If you buy this, you win, and you get to drink FROM THE FIREHOSE!!!!!
