My Windows XP system was running very stable and fast. Ever since I installed this 802.11 adapter, I'm getting blue screens consistently when I'm doing heavy internet activity. If I just leave the machine up with the connection up but NOT using the connection, it blue screens rarely.

What is worse, its somehow even crashing my machine when I connect other USB devices ( I disconnect the devices properly, telling windows to eject them). This never happened before installing this adapter.

Considering how stable my machine used to be (3-4 months avg up time before I'd restart it), it's pathetic that it now blue screens every couple of hours. They haven't addressed this issue - their driver on the website is the same it's been for 2-3 years.

I've tried a fresh install twice already and am now looking for a better product from some other manufacturer!

Bottomline: DON'T BUY this if you value the stability of your system.

PS: I wish there was a 0 star rating. This doesn't deserve even 1 star.

I have been using it on a desktop (XP Media center 2005) fir a year now.

The adapter's driver is problematic. Whenever I resume from hibernate or standby, the driver crashed my computer. Talked to tech support and they could not help me at all. (I had followed all the directions specified in the manual for its installation).

So I currently don't hibernate my PC :(

Works well on a freshly restarted machine though...

Unless they have an updated driver, I would not recommend buying this. (I am using the driver it shiped with and have not seen any updates to it on dlink's web site)

when usb card or device uses more electricity ten the usb
port can offer (usually 500ma) it goes to blue screen
especially on laptops...and on small pc s.

the reason i think is with in the 108 acceleraton argorythm

that could suck up more than usb port can give , hence error occurs.

so if you dont want your pc/laptop to go blue ,

dont use the super-G mode.

i think 5ghz router users must have a backup adapter like this

at hand.

I have seen the "Blue Screen of Death" a few times, but it is not something that happens all of the time. I can't complain too much about the product considering I picked it up at Fry's Electronics for $19 after a mail in rebate. I needed a USB adapter because the PCMIA card interface went bad.

Pros:::

*The extension cable is a nice add-on. Even if you don't need it for the AG132 it fits other USB devices as well. The AG132 is a little more bulky than most other USB devices so it can get a little crowded near your USB ports. I did not see the performance gain from plugging the adapter into the extension cable. In fact, performance was slightly degraded. (which was a surprise)
*Can be switched between laptops and desktops
CONS:::
*Occasional Blue Screen of Death. (When this happens it tends to happen when the system is booting into XP)
*Occasional when the system comes out of standby you can't get a signal no matter how close you are to the access point. In order to get a signal you have to remove the card, wait a few seconds and plug it back in.
*Performance could be a little better.

Overall Recommendation:
If you can pick this up for a good price, then you will probably be satisfied. If you are looking for solid performance as your main focus, then you might want to look elsewhere.
I don't know why wireless manufacturers not putting external antenna adapters on wireless devices. If the AG132 had an external antenna adapter I would give it a higher rating.
If you are looking for performance geek, then check out the Buffalo family of wireless cards.
If you are looking for something to connect a home or at the local coffee shop, can deal with some minor issues from time to time, and can pick this adapter up for a good price, then I say go ahead.
If on the other hand you want the best performance 100% of the time, or if you have to pay full price for this adapter, I would look for another manufacturer

I'd like to report the same problem as the people above - this adapter works great *when* it works, but it crashes my PC at least once per day. I've spent an hour+ on the phone with technical support, and so far nothing has helped. For the record, I'm running XP Media Center Edition with SP2.

NEC LCD1760VM.......2003-02-21

I spent a minor fortune years ago for a NEC LCD1500M -- more than what I spent on my home system -- and have never regretted a cent. Based on that positive experience I naturally gravitated to NEC when looking to replace my hulking 17" office monitor. I did a pretty thorough bit of shopping and kept an open mind to alternatives. But in the end, this beauty won out. There are several reasons for the choice:

1. Personally, I had a great NEC experience to begin with. I exepected the unit to be well built, the screen quality to be exceptional, the integrated speakers to be up to my needs.
2. Even if you are not a big gamer or multi-media person, as I am not, the integrated speakers cut down on desk clutter while delivering very nice sound quality.
3. This unit has both analog and digital inputs so your investment can be stretched over more years, technology changes, and applications.
4. This is a great looking monitor: minimalist and clean.
5. It is a very good brand-name value when you compare to what is out there for 17" LCDs.

The display quality has not disappointed. It is exceptionally clear, with rich colors. It's easy to read even in its 1280x1024 resolution. The speakers are getting well exercised with streaming audio and are execllent for what they are (1 watt.)

I had a few hiccups getting started -- mostly self inflcited. I installed their NaViSet software which in theory allows you to control the video settings using an application if you have a DDC/DI capable video card. I don't, but went ahead and installed it anyway. It managed to prevent the Windows driver from running correctly and starting the monitior as a 1760VM. After I uninstalled NaViSet, all was well. The other bit -- which required a call to their 800 help line -- who were wonderful by the way -- was that the instructions for the control buttons that operate the On-Screen Manager (OSM) were one detail short of complete. Pressing the Exit key brings up a tabbed icon. You would like to navigate to the various tabs, and the suggestion is that the arrow keyes <> will do this. However, nothing happens until you press Exit a second time. Then the arrow keys navigate the tabs. Pressing Select puts you into the options within the displayed tabs.

The LCD1760VM comes with a license for LiquidView, which will scale screen objects for better viewing (in theory.) I haven't warmed up to this feature yet, partially because the screen is very readable just as is and I like the large amount of real estate.

I am pleased with my choice and have become even more of a NEC bigot when it comes to LCD monitors.

Reliable and Durable.......2006-11-16

I purchased two of these over a year ago, and have put both of them hard work almost every working day since. Although I use them a little for external storage, I mainly use them to house large quantities of frequently accessed database and virtual system data. They are no stranger to being constantly accessed all day, plugged into multiple systems, moved from room to room, shipped, and even packed in checked luggage for business trips. Never once have I lost data or had any problems at all with them; they have treated me better than I have treated them. Dependable and highly recommended.

Easy - one touch.......2006-03-29

This is a great "mindless" back-up system. Easy to install and just press a button and it creates a mirror image of your drive. I use Zone Alert and Retrospect was asking for internet access a lot so I keep it turned off and power it up and start Retrospect once a week. I am not doing daily back-ups as I had invisioned but weekly is better than no back-up!

I purchased this external drive mostly for media storage and backup storage. It was a breeze to set up and works flawlessly. I didn't setup or plan on using the one-touch backup (I use another backup and drive revert software), but plan on storing photos, video and music (and stream them to my home entertainment system) along with storing backup images. I love the design too!

I'm impressed at how quiet the drive is. Definitely worth the affordable price.

Fast, easy, but not reliable.......2006-02-21

Mine lasted for a year and four months before it suddenly died. That's not a good lifetime for a hard disk these days, normal disks run five years without noticeable errors. Two points off for poor quality. Still it's better than my One Touch 250 GB, which lasted only months. I think that's a pretty good hint that Maxtor doesn't build these disks to last.

While it works, though, it is pretty much foolproof. (Unless you're foolish enough to drop it, I guess. Never tried that.) Easy to set up, easy to use. Faster than tape. If all you need is a backup device or a way to move data from one computer to another, it is very good... while it lasts. Try to get an extended warranty or service plan, though.

I've been using the same lint trap kit on my 120v dryer for over 5 years without a single issue. I do have a 4' washer/dryer closet and I close the doors (unventilated) during warmer months to keep the heat from getting out. However, I only clean the trap kit about once a month and usually just add water when I see the level is getting low in between loads. Sometimes I forget to add water, but the worst that's happened is that I found random pieces of lint stuck to my W/D closet walls! No mold, no mildew, and I have bad allergies so I would have definitely "felt" the effect of any such problems long ago.

I recently removed the aluminum tubing for the first time since I bought it to do a deep cleaning. I found very minor traces of lint that my handvac sucked up in a jiffy. Unless you have a really large dryer and do massive loads of really damp clothes pretty regularly, I don't think the warnings are any reason to not try this. This little gadget is a wonderful solution for apartment dwellers with limited options. My only gripe is that I wish the construction was a little more solid. The lid clamps are tricky, and I've broken off little pieces of plastic with little effort. However, until I find a new and improved model, I'll keep using this old one 'til it falls apart.

Best as a temporary solution.......2007-08-02

The platic tank holds water and the lint is directed from the dryer via the silver tube that is included. The water collects the lint and the hot air is forced out through the holes in the collection tank. The problem with this is that if you have a small room or a room with little or no ventilation the humidity makes everything wet. This can cause dampness and mold to be a problem.

The collection tank is supposed to be emptied whenever the water gets dirty. I'm not sure how dirty as it doesn't really give much info other than that.

I see that only as a temporary fix. The best and safest solution is to vent your dryer to the outside of the house, but until you are able to do that, this will provide a way to vent your dryer.
