1 out of 5 stars DOA.......2007-07-28

This camera failed to work from the moment I plugged it in. The lights flashed virtually at random... the power light would sometimes blink on and off, sometimes it would stay solid. The ethernet light would blink once every minute or so at some times, and at others, even when it wasn't plugged into anything, it would stay solid. After a brief conversation with their technical support staff, it was determined that my product was defective. I tried two separate routers, and neither detected it. The reset button didn't appear to work, either.

I was really excited about this, but now I'm not so sure. I'll certainly be leery of purchasing a D-Link product in the future. I guess we'll see how well the replacement works.

1 out of 5 stars Easy setup but not a reliable performer .......2007-06-22

This camera was easy to set up just like the DCS-900's I own. I want to note that you can run this camera via ethernet cable if you want. In fact I do this because the wireless comes and goes for no reason and it is only 20 feet away from the router with no obstruction. The video is choppy like the DCS-900 but the quality is livable for those who can't afford the higher end ip camera's (like Axis who actually deliver 30 fps). Low lighting situations are horrible on this camera and making out faces is not easy to do unless you are in a well lit room.

Tech support by D-Link is present but be prepared to be dealt with "aggressively" if you email them about the frames per second not performing as advertised.

Have realistic expectations and if you can, go for the higher end cameras and be happier with your decision. Btw, I use this camera with SecuritySpy for the Mac.

4 out of 5 stars Good little security Camera for the price........2007-06-02

I picked this unit up about a year and a half ago. I needed to have this unit serviced after 7 months because I could not connect to the unit anymore. Soft Reboot, Hard Reboot did not solve it, DLink was nice enough to send me another unit. Took about 2 weeks turn around. That was about 9 months ago, I have had this camera mounted on top of my house over looking the front yard. In the day time the image is very crisp at 640x480, I only hope one day a 1280x1024 resolution would come out so I can view my entire yard just instead of my front porch. I have a piece of saramic taped on it, so the water will not get absorbed into the unit. It has survived the cold winters and also the rainy season as well. It holds up well outside, you just need to cover the unit.

Nite time viewing is not soo great, it is very grainy but what can you expect w/o a builtin night vision modular. I use webcamxp with this software to broadcast it over the web and also to send me email alerts triggered by the motion senor. I like to check up on my UPS and Post Man every once in a while to see what they are up to. :) I recommend using WeBCamXP with this unit because it has a lot of nice features which the DLink software does not have. The interface can be a lot better, but I just use it for its camera feature and nothing else, so it does not bother me.

I highly recommend this unit if you want to look over your new puppy inside the house or view your property. I currently have two of these units, one for the inside of the house with a Linksys POE connected to it. (Power Over Ethernet), so I can mount it anywhere without trying to struggle to find an OUTLET.

3 out of 5 stars Novice review.......2007-05-31

Being tech. stupid, I read all the directions and got it up and running wirelessly in a few min.
Still can't view it outside my network. The only thing I can figure out is that there is a block on my server side to reduce bandwidth but the instructions cover that too. I have yet to try it but in the mean time, I use it to spy on my dogs in the livingroon while I'm working in another room. Good picture, average wireless range. I like it so far.

3 out of 5 stars Great hardware, HORRIBLE software!!!.......2007-04-06

The device is GREAT. The concept is GREAT. The software is HORRIBLE! The documentation is even WORSE!!!

I hate it when a manufacturer goes through all the trouble to create a magnificent product, but then skimps on the software/drivers/documentation/etc. This is a perfect example. The device is rock-solid -- could not ask for a sturdier product without going to industrial quality (and price). The software looks like it was written to entertain children! The developers focused SO MUCH on creating pretty icons (that are actually ugly), that they completely forgot about usability -- and worse, they forgot to document!!! There are no pop-up tips over any icons, nor is there any sort of Help feature anywhere. There is a PDF owners manual, but it seems like it was written by a 10-year-old. Half of the features are not even mentioned in the document. It's extremely frustrating to know that the functionality is there, but I will have to poke around at the stupid software for days before I discover it! Basically, a developer spent days coding each feature, but could not spend 2 minutes to put a label and description on it. Features that nobody knows about or how to use are USELESS!

If this device had even half-way decent software and documentation, it would get 5 stars -- but the software and documentation is so poor that it gets only 3 stars (maybe even just 2).

As for the hardware, here's my review..

SPEED: This device uses 802.11b, so it is limited to 11 Mbps, which can be too slow for video with moderate/high frame rates. However, for security purposes, 5 frames per second is sufficient (slightly choppy video, but better than most VCR-based security systems). I haven't tried recording at higher frame rates. I imagine that if compression is set to high, fairly high frame rates can be achieved.

IMAGE: This device can record up to 640x480 pixel video. However, the software only supports 320x240. In daylight, video seems relatively crisp, even at high compression. At night, the camera doesn't fare as well. D-Link makes other cameras that have much better night vision than this one. If you're looking for a night-time camera, consider a different model. The camera has a rotary focus dial on the lens, which can be set from close-up (20cm) through infinity.

CHASIS: The camera housing is sturdy and the base is actually made of cast metal (I expected cheap plastic, but was pleasantly surprised). The most-delicate part of the unit is the screw-on antenna. It's not poorly made, but just not as rugged as the rest of the camera. The camera is NOT intended for outdoor use. I have it temporarily mounted on a window sill, pointed towards the front of my house. Eventually, I will actually attach it to the window frame. The base can be screwed into either the top or bottom of the camera, so it can be mounted on a ceiling, wall, bookshelf, or wherever you'd like -- nicely done.

Initial setup (getting it onto the network and seeing video) is somewhat straight forward, but the poor software and documentation become apparent right away. Advanced setup (video surveillance, motion detection, recording, etc.) is EXTREMELY frustrating. I'm searching for 3rd party video surveillance software to use with it because I hate the packaged software so much.

The webcam comes with its own built-in webserver, so it can host its own website (nice feature). The built-in browser-based setup screen (kind of like configuring a LinkSys or D-Link router) does have a Help menu! However, the only thing it has is the following text: "For Help on Web Configuration settings, please refer to the Manual included with your Internet Camera." =-P

Good luck!!!

4 out of 5 stars small, simple to use, great results.......2003-12-16

I have this scanner at home for personal use and have used it to scan in a lot of my old photos. I think the pictures turn out great! The quality is at least as good as my digital camera. I run the software on Win XP and I have had no problems. It is so simple even my computer illiterate in-laws run it effortlessly.

3 out of 5 stars needs software.......2003-02-04

i would like to have software for my mustek 1200cu scanner i really need help, i can scan but nothing else, i was told that i needed software, please HELP.

1 out of 5 stars Avoid at all costs.......2002-01-04

This scanner arrived and immediately would not function. I use XP, and the software stated it would only run on Windows 95(!).
When I went to the Mustek website, it offered a 9 part download to update the software. The problem is that the Mustek website is so incompetent that the connection for the download was at about 400bytes per second (with me using DSL). It would be better to return the scanner then to sit through the 18 hour download.
Having known people who have used terrible Mustek scanners in the past, I am surprised that this company is still in business. I suspect they may not even really exist.

5 out of 5 stars It's The Most Unique Scanner I've Ever Seen.......2001-09-25

While it's true, scanners come in all shapes and sizes.
The only scanner for my hard earned dollar is the Mustek Bear paw Scanner.
This handy slim item weighs only 6 lbs., and has 5 features in one.
Why purchase 4 or 5 different Computer componants when you can have it all with a Bear Paw Scanner.

Why wait! Get yours,now!!!!

3 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for........2001-08-04

This was my very first scanner and was extremely excited about buying it. I love the BearPaw features that lets you scan, copy, e-mail and fax right from your desktop. The USB connection was great. The software that was bundled with my scanner is very weak. But they also tell you that you are stuck with the software that it came with. That means no upgrades. The scanner is extremely slow. I would not recommend this scanner for a large project unless you have 1/2 day to complete it.There is no manual and your web advviser may or may not know what to do. It is difficult to import and export pictures..But you get what you pay for.I would recommend this for home use only.

  • Transmitter detects people or vehicles.
  • Transmitter operates on 6 "AA" batteries.
  • 5 channels, 38 subchannels
  • License free

ASIN: B0002W19E2

Product Description

The MURS Alert transmitter is a passive infrared detector that can be mounted on a post to detect people or vehicles entering the drive. When the MURS Alert transmitter detects a vehicle, it will send a voice signal to the M538-BS basestation transceiver. Four different voice signals can be selected at the transmitter so you will be able to monitor up to four different areas. The voice signal will say Alert zone one, Alert zone two, Alert zone three, Alert zone four. The MURS Alert transmitter has 5 standard MURS channels and 38 CTCSS sub-codes to help insure uninterrupted use. Operates on 6 AA batteries (not included). The M538-BS is a basestation transceiver that is meant to receive alert signals from the MURS Alert transmitter and can also be used for two way voice communications with other transceivers. Operates on 5 channels with 38 sub-codes. Two watts of output power ensures greater range than FRS (up to 5 miles). Unlike GMRS, the user does not need to obtain a license from the FCC.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Very intermittent.......2007-05-31

I bought one kit and one extra receiver. In our application the transmitter is pointed at the driveway. The house is 100 yards away from the transmitter, the garage/workshop 100 yards away, and the house 100 yards from the garage - a triangle arrangement. Everything is line-of-sight; in fact you can see the transmitter from the window in the house where the receiver is on the sill. You can see the transmitter from the workshop's door.

On installation, the unit worked just fine for four days. The only annoyance was that turning the receiver's volume up high would result in feedback noise when triggered. Then it stopped triggering either receiver. The company sent me another transmitter. This one would only trigger one receiver, and the reception on that one was very scratchy. We tried changing locations slightly for all three units. We tried different antenna lengths. We tried different channels. We bought and tried another new set of batteries. No improvement.

Third transmitter -- out of 10 vehicles, one receiver received five alerts, the other received three. I've just gotten an RMA to return the whole bunch (at my expense).

1 out of 5 stars Reply from manufacturer re: Quack device does not work as advertised.......2006-08-23

I wrote that a large grey fox (stood directly and side-on infront of the sensor - closer than any deer would and will just as much heat) and a large opossum walked around for fifteen minutes directly within 6 feet of the sensor/transmitter and no alerts were sent - he replies:

Sorry to hear you are having troubles with that system. The sensor will have troubles detecting smaller animals like fox and opossum. Things like people, deer and vehicles should be much easier to detect. Are you trying to use this as a driveway alarm or to monitor a game trail? Either way, your best results will usually come if you mount the transmitter 3 to 4 feet off the ground and about 20 feet from the trail or drive. You might experiment with moving the transmitter up or down slightly to find the best location.

Please let me know what happens when you try the different locations.

Thanks,

Whether in homes, factories, offices, airports, or on the street, it's hard to imagine a place where Philips is absent. What Philips wants is to make your life and work easier - and more fun! And Philips continuously explores new ways to improve products and to offer innovative products to its consumers. Philips. "Let's Make Things Better".

    Amazon.com Product Description

Philips' gargantuan, 55-inch 55PP9910 is equipped to receive and display the latest high-definition broadcast programming with clarity and vivid color, right out of the box via its onboard ATSC/QAM tuner (though you may need a terrestrial antenna for proper HDTV reception). The set is fully compatible with DTV set-top boxes, too, with a direct-digital HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface), a pair of switchable HD/SD (standard-definition) component-video inputs, and 2 PC inputs.

The set offers a widescreen (16:9) aspect-ratio and delivers 1080i high-definition signals at full resolution and, in fact, renders all input sources--480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i--at 1080i resolution through onboard upconversion technology.

Optimized for dual home theater/personal computing use, the 55PP9910 is what's known as an iHDTV, for interactive HDTV. Interactive television merges traditional television with the interactivity of the Internet, making TV viewing a richer and more engaging experience with applicable channels. To that end, the set's enhanced, DSURF remote control grants "digital-only" channel tuning, passing over SD channels for times when you want to focus exclusively on true high-definition programming.

The set uses Philips HD Optics with cutting-edge processing and display technology. Philips HD Optics covers the 55PP9910's wideband video amplifier, microphosphor CRTs, hybrid projection lenses, a first-surface mirror, and a fine-pitched, high-contrast lenticular screen. Also on hand is APAC (Automatic Phosphor Aging Compensation), a Philips technology that automatically shifts your television picture in very small increments to defray the chances of permanent image burn-in or etching.

You get single-tuner, side-by-side PIP (picture-in-picture) from any source, meaning you can view a DVD image over an HDTV signal (or vice-versa) as well as a VHS signal over an SD TV show, depending on what you have plugged into the set--your choice.

Connections include the above-mentioned HDMI (which is 100-percent DVI-compatible, in case you're already using a DTV set-top box outfitted with a Digital Visual Interface) and 2 HD/SD component-video inputs, 2 PC inputs (1 D-Sub 15-pin, 1 RGB+H/V), 3 each composite- and S-video terminals, and 2 RF coaxial inputs (1 for antenna and 1 for a second antenna, an older VCR, or a cable box).

A coaxial digital-audio output passes Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround signals to a compatible AV receiver and multichannel speaker system so you can enjoy powerful, enveloping surround sound from your free, over-air HDTV broadcast reception. There's also a set of stereo analog (left/right) RCA outputs for use with AV receiver and integrated amplifiers, and for stereo listening the set will fold down Dolby Digital signals to 2 channels.

If you're not set up for multichannel surround listening, the set offers a choice of Dolby Virtual Surround and Incredible Surround to simulate surround sound from any 2 speakers, including those featured in the 55PP9910. The TV's 10 watts-per-channel internal amplifier gives you strong, clear sound, while auto volume leveling minimizes dramatic swings in listening level, a nice feature for nighttime viewing.

The promise of 3,000 pages of text is no exaggeration. I waited until printing that many before writing this review. Many pages I print are double-spaced (for writing and college), but full with only 1" margins. I'm not sure how much longer the cartridge will last, but for now the well-distributed toner (sharp, no background shading) continues.

5 out of 5 stars Very Stabe in AV Editing, Gaming.......2003-05-23

This card made by Promise is a very heavy duty one, why? I've been using this card for some time now with no trouble. I used this card for Gaming, AV Editing (Pro Editing), Server, etc.

It is very easy to install, the instructions are easy to follow if you are new in installing PCI Cards.

Over all, a good investment for anyone looking stability and speed.

3 out of 5 stars Installing Maxtor PCI Card /w Maxtor 133 HDD.......2003-03-07

I decided to write and tell everyone about this card. You might be wondering why I only gave the card 3 stars. Although the card installed fine with Windows 2000, I had problems installing under Windows XP. I was forced to install Windows XP using my standard ATA controller. Once in XP I found that infact there was a MAX Blast III CD that would have solved my problems in the first place had I been using those new drivers instead of the ones on my MAX Blast II CD.

Summary, The card works as expected with the new drivers! Do not trust the drivers on the CD! Three stars for an above average card, but not perfect.

          5 out of 5 stars Replacing ATA-100 w/ ATA-133 HD's........2002-12-22

At First I installed the Maxtor 60 G, HD, 7200 rpm, ATA 133 and felt the system was slower, folks said it would replace the ATA 100, with no problems, but it was well worth installing the Ultra PCI - 133 Card, the system came to life, much - much faster

The need for speed is exactly as Described, and great service too.

5 out of 5 stars Great little Mouse pad.......2006-07-25

These are very nice Mouse Pads. They are a little expensive, but are worth it if you want something a little nicer than the usual mouse pad.

          4 out of 5 stars Wow - How Elegant!.......2006-01-04

The mouse pad looks like a elegant rug, brings style into your home office or at work. I bought mine at the store and they had many different colors and designs. Of course I also bought the coasters, which are addorable & classy. I want to go back and buy more. The only thing is I think they are a little pricey, only con about them.
