Looking to fill the niche between a notebook and a palmtop? The Jornada 680 offers the features of a PC with pocket-size convenience. Loaded with software for personal information management and featuring a complete keyboard for touch typing, this sleek hand-held PC makes a great traveling companion.

The Jornada 680 connects to your PC through a docking cradle via the PC's 9-pin serial port. Setup consists of following the Quick Start instruction sheet, attaching the battery, and connecting the docking cradle. In our tests, the entire process was intuitive, and software installation on our PC went without a hitch.

The keyboard on this small, portable unit is about two-thirds the width of a normal desktop model, so typing feels a little cramped at first. Taking quick notes and memos for testing was easy, but composing longer documents would not be practical.

File synchronization with the desktop "partner" PC occurs through a serial cable and by running Microsoft Windows CE Services 2.2 with ActiveSync. The Partnership Wizard guides you through establishing a connection and synchronizing shared files. When the two units are connected, you can access the Jornada's desktop as an ordinary window on the partner PC's Windows desktop.

We set up the Jornada to connect to an ISP through its internal modem and to send and receive email through the ISP's POP3 server. This process was easy--we just ran the Make New Connection wizard and answered its questions. (Make sure that you have your ISP's e-mail protocol information handy.) Surfing the Web is fun and fast, although you have to get used to the half-height screen when viewing Web pages.

The printed User's Guide is thorough, clearly written, and well organized. The Jornada's online Help is more limited but covers the most important topics. The pleasant, intuitive user interface precluded the need to consult the documentation for most tasks. --Mike Brown

I write under very special conditions. I was using a palm with a keyboard, but I found it not to be powerful enough. A laptop was too heavy, the battery life was miserable, and it took forever to turn on. I found a jornada on Ebay. It is a piece of junk! They get constant memory losses, and it took a week for the screen to fall right off its hinges. I got another and it was wiped with the most crucial information of my life. Like you I read negative revues and gave it the benefit of the doubt(after all I love all electronics), but heed my warning STAND CLEAR.

This Jornada 680/680e very good devices but just i can't get the accessory on Malaysia then make me not confidence to use it , but now i still using it just finding and finding for the accessory ! Hewlett Packard need to make more accessory for it and continues to product this Jornada ! Very good deivices , Them must continues it ,if not very wasted to discontinued this product and make us who have thie Jornada 680/680e have no accessory to buy ! Then how we can use the device for a long long time ? Hope that HP will continues this deiveces!

This device is very good I like it so much! Just got one problem is why the hp don't want to continues to sale the product? This product very good to use ! If HP din continues this Jornada 680/680e then we at Malaysia difficult to find the accessory for it then when the Jornada got some problem we can't find the accessory then what can we do? Them must continues this product or make more accessory for this product to make us more confidence to use it right? Won't scared difficult to get the accessory any more and we can use it for a long long time with no wonder! Hewlett Packard hope you can see the feedback then you can make us to use this device with more confidence because this is a really good device to use ! These companies of HPCs are playing the market. This Jornada 680, has the size and portability that a laptop doesn't have, and I love it for that, but the features are pittyful! If the size were a little bigger, than they could easily put in a 10 Gig hard-drive, 64mb ram, and 400+ mHz proccesor. A PERFECT example of this is a small sony laptop, but I do not remember the model name. It is a little larger than my Jornada, but has a 30 Gig HD, 700MHZ proccesor, 128 RAM, and Windows XP!!!... I recommend you wait, prices will DROP, and new FAST, SMALL, SEXY proccesors are coming out!!!

Does just about everything.......2005-08-16

Unlike tiny PDAs, this unit has a real keyboard (76% of full-size), and a decent sized, crisp and bright screen (1/2 VGA size). You can really do some work with this thing!

It comes with the complete Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Along with many great applications developed by HP for this unit.

There is a socket on the bottom for inserting a Compact Flash memory chip (Type I only). This socket is difficult to get to, so it's useful only for memory that you're going to leave in the unit.

On the side is a standard, Type I or Type II, PCMCIA card socket.
Easy to get to and there are many possibilities for this socket. You could add a wireless WiFi card, a 56kb modem, etc. By using a Compact Flash to PCMCIA adapter, you can use a Type II Compact Flash in this socket. Using this setup, I was able to easily add a small Compact Flash camera, and a second Compact Flash, for backups. A lot of possibilities here.

There's a ton of free software out there for this unit. Also a lot of good commercial programs available. Yes, you can even run Linux on this unit. Watch DIVX movies. Sorry, no headphone jack.
It's a very well-built unit and just plain fun to play with!
Don't leave home without it. But do check the prices on this, as they vary quite a bit. (TigerDirect has them for $99 currently)

Nice product and I really like the digital settings. The only draw back is the sound rebirverates from the speakers when the volume goes above 20.
Great radio/CD if it is just going to be placed next to your bed for wake up and go to sleep music. Not so good if you put it in your bathroom and want to hear the music over the shower.

The touch screen system is great. For old folks like us it's so much better than so many of the modern menu driven gadgets. The status of important functions displayed and controlled from the screen. Outstanding sound quality for such a small box.

Cool Idea, Confusing Interface.......2007-01-17

What a great concept! Touch screens are the perfect compliment to a multi-function alarm clock. We are very happy with this unit. I am a little confused by the inclusion of all the "extra" buttons. All of the functionality except for a snooze bar could have been integrated into the touch screen. The usability is reasonably intuitive even though the display is misleadingly complex. It's also a little big so if you don't have a lot of space on your night stand, you might consider something a little more compact.

This is a great buy for anyone at all. The sound is absolutely amazing! I could not believe that such a big sound was coming from such a small machine! The only downside for me, a technology lover, was the missing Audio Cable Input so that you can plug in your electronic device (such as an iPod or a CD Player) through its headphone jack. But still, this thing is amazing!

I was looking for a simple to operate CD clock alarm for my 84 year old mother who is technologically challenged. After reading how easy this was to operate, I ordered one and it appears to be true. REFURBISHED hard-drive in a VERY LOW-QUALITY enclosure.......2006-07-07

Be forewarned that this drive -- like all MDT products -- is REFURBISHED/RECERTIFIED (and NOT brand new). Moreover, based on my past experience with equipment sold by NARRO, his enclosures are VERY low quality; they tend to breakdown within a year, leaving you with an internal drive only (which, as mentioned earlier, is REFURBISHED to begin with!). While I have nothing against this particular seller (who is re-selling so-called "new" equipment that he/she purchased), I do advise buyers NOT to purchase products that were originally marketed by NARRO!

1- This product is sold as new within VAIO external enclosures, (SURPRISE!) it is however REFURBISHED . Says so in their own poorly written web-site -MDTGlobal-
2- Documentation is beyond sparse (a mini leaflet).
3- Don't expect support- at all.
4- Performance is OK.
5- At least it didn't came DOA.
