My entire problem with this camera is how s-l-o-w it is. Yes, I understand a 3.2 megapixel cheapie isn't going to take the best of shots, but I tried this recently with a DXG 301V "camcorder" back to back. The 301V takes average quality shots, and is ready again in 2-3 seconds. The 308 takes 5-7 seconds, and requires the brightest possible light. Even on a sunny morning the "watch for shake" icon is on. Practically all my pictures have some blur or distortion in them; At first I thought there was something wrong with the lens, until I took several pictures with a blur line right down them. I realized this camera is scanning the image so slowly that it's taking a second or so after I press the button to record anything. The 308 honestly is acting like it has an ISO of 25 and is something from the 1980's.

I rate this camera two only because the underwater housing actually works, but I can't see what use it would be expect in a shallow pool in Arizona on a tripod. I went through two 301v's before I got one that worked, so mine's may be a lemon, but at this point I'll just save up for something better.

I don't recommend this camera to anyone. It usually takes terrible pictures and it drinks up battery juice like cheap wiskey. The flash won't work when you need it to and its hard to see the view screen. The zoom is relatively decent; and when you can get it to work right, it can take some okay pictures and video clips, but no one should waste their money on the DXG-308. There are so many great cameras out there, so save up and buy one you'll love. I recomend Cannon or Nikon.

This is quite possibly THE WORSE purchase I have EVER made in my life! I bought the camera the day before my son's graduation. I read through the User Manual, which doesn't really tell you anything...and thought all was ok. I was wrong. When my son's name was called to go up on stage to get his award, I realized (in COMPLETE horror)that the "preview display window" was dark. I was not able to take one single picture of my son walking down the aisle, when he received the diploma...nothing! This camera ruined our day. I was not able to take pictures until the graduation was over! Seems like it only takes pics outside. When I went on the DXGUSA website to their FAQ section, it states the camera is really made to be used in "natural light". The 4 pictures that I did manage to get took all day to capture because it took the darn thing like 15 seconds to "load" between each picture. (Try telling 5 teens to stay still in the same position until the camera decides it's ready to shoot again!)I ended up buying a disposable camera for 4 dollars and the pictures (taken way after the graduation was over) were much better. Kids don't graduate everyday, we missed out on all of the memories we could have had...if only I did not purchase this CRAPPY camera. I am so disappointed! Please do yourselves a favor: STAY AWAY FROM THIS CAMERA.

Very nice little camera.......2006-02-18

I bought this camera to take with me when I kayak. I haven't been able to take it in the ocean yet, but I tested it in the pool, and it had no problems.I have only taken about 100 pictures with it so far with mixed results.I should first say that I am happy with it. The pictures I took outdoors in good light came out very good.Using the high res settings they had good color, were clear, sharp, and had no distortion.The clips I took using the movie mode, in good light, were reasonable, (better than I expected.) The pictures i took indoors using the flash were not as good, but still about what I expected.I knew they were not going to be as sharp as my Nikon, but I didn't want to take my Nikon in the ocean. I have a specific purpose in mind for this camera, and I think it going to be just fine for that purpose. For the money I think it is a fine sports, waterfront camera. I did find that it was dificult to get the focus right in macro mode. You have a very short depth of field,(about two inches), so keep within that range. I did get some nice pictures of a bee though, (and most cameras in this price range don't have a macro at all). I was very glad I could find a digital camera that was waterproof in this price range, and based on my tests, and my needs, it is just fine.

I bought this camera for my daughter for Christmas, what a mistake that was, the flash overexposed every picture and the manual controls were not user friendly, invest in a better camera for your money like the Vivitar 3785 or Canon A510 .

Fragile and a little too big.......2005-07-21

I have found this device to be a little too big. It's not like those slim usb devices that fit any computer. If you have other ports close, you'll have to either disconnect them or use an extention cable (included).

It's also a little too big to look good hanging from your neckstrap. And it's case is not sturdy and fixed, rather is made from a cheap plastic cover and it seems there's a lot of empty space within. The could've made it smaller. If you shake it you can hear some moving parts!!!

But it works fine.

I ordered this product the latter part of June, it was to ship immediately, but after one week the shipping date was changed to September through October.
I could not cancel the order because the 'cancel order page' would not load, I had to call amazon to have it cancelled. Done, but now I can not seem to get my money back. I've written several emails and made several telephone calls to get my refund. STILL NO REFUND.

I need to transfer a lot of files between my home and work computers on a fairly regular basis. I have been using the Cyclone 256MB USB 2.0 Flash Pen Drive (works quite well) but needed more memory. This review is specifically for the PAUM01U Targus Ultra Mini Retractable Optical Mouse.

I got this mouse because it was one of the smallest mice that I could find on the market (it's really hard to get the specific sizes on some of these travel/laptop mice - this mouse has a footprint of about 7.5 cm x 3.4 cm which is the smallest of the Ultra Mini Travel Mice in the Targus line - the other Mini Travel Mice listed by Targus are all slightly bigger). The Verbatim Mini Travel mouse is about the same size as this mouse. There is an even smaller mouse described on the Internet, the Sigma Rotino, but I have not found any place that sells it.

Although many people complain about the small size of travel/laptop mice, I use mostly my fingers to move a mouse around (by setting the speed setting to the highest level you eliminate most wrist movements - you do have to have pretty good fine finger motor control to do this). Using a standard size mouse keeps my fingers in a prolonged extended position, and I have concluded that it is the extended position of my fingers that is causing the soreness in my right forearm and hand from prolonged mouse usage. So, I am trying out smaller/narrower mice.

This mouse was Dead On Arrival. The computer recognized the USB connection, but the cursor never moved. No light came on at the bottom of the mouse - since it is just an optical mouse, not a laser, I would have expected the usual red LED light.

The mouse is made in China, no surprise, since almost everything is made in China these days. Quality control and design are still the responsibilities of the Western companies that put their names on the products, however, and so the real question is, do I want to take another chance and ask for an exchange, or just get a refund from Amazon?

Let's see......

The left click button on this mouse makes a loud click and requires more than the usual amount of force to activate. The right button makes a softer click, but also feels firm to the touch. The roller button has only a faint amount of ratchet feel to it, which is good, but it does not spin effortlessly - it feels like the axles of the roller are embedded in thick molasses. (I am comparing the feel of these buttons to a standard Microsoft optical mouse, which has a very light touch to all of the buttons).

Also, this mouse has almost no weight to it. It does help for a mouse to have some weight, since otherwise with just the slightest twitch of a finger, you will accidentally jiggle the cursor. However, since this mouse never moves the cursor at all, I am unable to test its stability.

The bottom of the mouse just has four round bumps made of the same plastic as the rest of the bottom of the mouse, not the special plastic feet that most mice have. Although the mouse slides effortlessly, if you are not using a mouse pad, you can actually hear it scraping across your desktop. I can only imagine that this means that one or the other surface is wearing down as you move this mouse around.

The cord take-up reel seems to be the standard reel that all of these mini-mice use. It works fine. The wires are very thin, though, and I doubt that they will last with heavy use.

Conclusion: I am more than disappointed by all the great reviews for this mouse. It's really not very well made. This dead mouse is going back to Amazon for a refund.

Great except with Excel 2003.......2007-07-10

I really like the mouse -- until I go into Excel -- which I normally do several times a day. As soon as I open an Excel spreadsheet, the mouse goes nuts. It is as if the scroll lock is on. I cannot right or left click -- I cannot do anything. Every movement of the mouse continues to select cells. I cannot 'X' out or use any of the keys. I have to go to the task manager to end Excel -- I am told it cannot end Excel -- but eventually I get the "not responding" message and it ends. I have tried changing every system and Excel setting and nothing helps. It functions the same on two laptops, so it is not a system issue. When I detach the mouse, I get the same results in Excel until I restart the system -- then everything is OK (as long as the ultra mini is not attached!).

I will be getting a new mouse... BTW, I contacted Targus support and so far the only response has been that it must be an Excel issue! I have used many mice (none were Targus) in the past and never had this problem.

Don't Let this Little Mouse Fool You!.......2007-06-27

It may be a small mouse, but it does everything a regular size mouse does. If you're limited with space or need a smaller mouse for your laptop and don't want a regular size mouse, this is perfect. It fits right into my laptop case and it doesn't take up any space. And with its retractable cord, it's even more portable.

Excellent product! I recommend it to anyone.
