Wow! This was one of the best deals I have ever found for a laptop. I hve owned 7 desk top computers ove the last 2o years. It was everything and more then described. I love it. Everything works which is unusal for something that is refurbished. Usually you expect something to be wrong with it.

Hmmm...I Guess You Get What You Pay For (2.5 stars).......2006-11-24

The reviewer "Ask" made some very valid points about this laptop. I bought this laptop about 2 months ago, because our school requires us to have access to a laptop as well as the internet at all times (if you can, avoid any Universities that requires this if you can...trust me on this one). My mom looked on the DELL website and got this laptop for about $375 to include the student discount and all that good stuff (DELL as well as Gateway are the computers that our school owns a warranty and will repair for no charge...well technically ). A good friend of told me "The quality you get from electronics is determined by the price you pay." And very rarely have I proved him wrong.

One of the most obvious problems that I'm having is that the computer takes about 5-10 minutes to shut down. The screen "Windows Is Now Shutting Down" will just stay on there, and if you close the laptop, it will go to "Stand By Mode" which really doesn't help becuase if you open it back up, the shut down screen will reappear until it decides when to do that function (keep in mind I've had this computer for about 2 months and I really haven't downloaded/installed anything that will affect it's performance). Then the USB cables suck, because if I plug in my external hard drive or a flash drive, half the time I get a message saying that Windows doesn't recognize the device. Thats never happened on any other computer except this one that I've used so far. And god help you if you plug in your MP3 player or your Ipod, because the computer will just freeze up and cause all kinds of problems, trust me on this one. Also I have a good feeling the way I'm typing on the keyboard (at a fast pace, the way people with experience type), one of the keys is going to fall out.

I'm not saying this is a bad computer. I'm still using it. Heck I'm even typing my review on this laptop. It does have fast download and connection speed, although that might be the USB cable that I'm using. Also it loads up programs at a reasonable speed (but we'll see after 6 months).

Take my advice: If you're strapped for cash and just want a laptop to use, and don't really care about the quality, get this here at the price that is listed. Otherwise, there are better laptops out there that work more effeciently, which range from about $600-$1000.

Update (April 16, 2007): Now for some odd reason, my CD drive is out of place, making it very difficult to read CDs and CD-ROMs. I've might have used the drive maybe no more than 10 times, and been very careful with my computer and now this has happened. This has never happened to me with other laptops that I've used, and luckly my school can repair this for no charge. So basically follow my advice I said in the previous paragraph. Peace!

DELL SELLS CRAP and CRACKED LAPTOPS.......2006-03-10

I know that u might be a bit surprised, but this is true. I bought a new DELL inspiron 600m 14" laptop and since I was very busy during the days it arrived I really did not get a chance to look at all the functions of the sytem. SO after some three or four weeks while I tried to write a CD , the CD-player gave problem that the CD would stop in the middle of writing or playing operations. To my Horror I discovered that my return policy has expired and that DELL needs 100$ to fix this problem over the phone as they say this is a software related problem.

Done with this petty issue myself .. now comes the real shocker that after just 4and half months the laptop developed multiple cracks because of a faulty material used and the manufacturing defect in stress relieving of the body material ( which I can prove to them anytime they want ). All the crack originate on the corners of the body -- all four base corners and extend upwards. One of them is very large and is progressong from front right corner towards the keyboard. DELL says my Warranty is over which was for three months only and when I asked the customer reps ( on mail as dont ever try calling their customer phone service as they keep on transferring you till 30 - 40 minutes until you get to speak to a right guy who doesnt know anything.) where is it written on their service booklet that the body is covered under what warranty scheme, the only answer to this that dell have got is dont answer not even acknowledge by the automated reply which I got for the first mail but never for any subsequent e mails. After writing three mails to them I have finally decided to write here as today one of the cracked corner broke off. Please note that I have taken care of this laptop more than me and it has never fallen or even kept on hard floor. Add to this fact , which I discovered after lot of frustration, that my other room mate who also eventually had an Inspiron 600m ( older than me has the same problem at exactly the same location though only one location at the back of the body supporting the screen/cover opening and closing pins. After this I have spoken to several frens of mine who have dell inspiron and everybody has some or the other problem of developing a crack which, I cannot verify as I have not seen it on my own. This review is out of utter frustration on the part of the dell to even adress their customer's small problem especially a student who have somehow bought the laptop with his scholarship money. Anyone who is interested in knowing the truth can actually write to me at askarakoti at yaho co in and I will send u the pics of the cracks that have developed and on the sides they have developed so that at least u guys can scan ur Laptops when u buy them from DELL. I must appreciate however that their system is working fine without any problems except the one odd one at the starting. neverthles I would never recommend any of my freind to buy a DELL unless he is rich and want to waste his money and keep invceting further on waste.

Quality definately missing in this machine. Radio stations that are clear on our other radios are static-laden on this player. Cassette sound also poor with a lot of hiss. Won't play cheaper tapes at all. Bought it as a gift and it was so embarrassing I ended up running out to Circuit City to grab a Sony replacement.

About the tv:

We've had this tv for 2 1/2 years and absolutely love it. The picture quality is better than any tv I've ever seen - even the new ones with the newest technology. There are a couple cool features to this tv that are probably standard on many but I thought were nice. The first is the fact that this is on wheels. The tv weighs about 400 pounds so moving it around to clean behind it, plug it in etc...could have difficult if they hadn't thought to put it on wheels. It also have a protective cover over the screen for those of us with kids and pets. A little windex is all you need to keep it clean. The shape of this tv is a full rectangle meaning that it's not like other tv's where you can't put anything on top of it if you want to. We keep family pictures and other seasonal decorations on top. On the front there are plugs to plug your camcorder into which makes life easier when it comes to showing off those kid's and vacation videos or just simply looking back on life gone by. YOu have many choices out there when it comes to tv's these days and certainly you can find ones that take less space.

Wrapping it up:

I think the questions to ask yourself about which tv to buy is: "How much space do I have?" and "What is my budget?" If space is an issue you may want to look into another tv since this tv is 42 inches wide and 22 inches deep. If you have the space and are looking to get as big as you can without paying an arm and a leg this is your tv.

The DocuPrint C8 prints lively 600 x 600 dpi color photos and graphics on plain paper and produces even better results of 1,200 x 600 dpi on glossy photo paper. This ink jet also offers five pages per minute of crisp text printing--all for at a very affordable price.

To set up the DocuPrint C8, we plugged in the AC power, connected the parallel cable (not included), turned on our PC, inserted the CD-ROM, and followed the on-screen setup instructions. After restarting Windows, the New Hardware Wizard requested that we locate the printer driver, which we found on the CD-ROM in the \langus\win 95 folder.

To print a test page, we started the Xerox DocuPrint C8 Status Window application and clicked the Maintenance tab, where we found options to print a test page, to clean or change the ink cartridges, and to perform alignment. Total setup time, including cleaning and aligning, was about 15 minutes.

In our test of the C8, we printed text in a variety of fonts, sizes, and colors. Using the printer's three modes--Draft, Normal, and High Quality--we printed five Draft pages of mixed color and black text in 336 seconds (0.9 pages per minute), five Normal pages in 315 seconds (1 ppm, faster than Draft), and two High Quality pages in 735 seconds (0.2 ppm). We also printed half pages of black text--five Draft pages in 90 seconds (3.3 ppm), five Normal pages in 145 seconds (2.1 ppm), and three High Quality pages in 136 seconds (1.3 ppm). (To reach the printer's stated 5 pages per minute, we had to print blank pages.) Draft text was banded and uneven. Normal text demonstrated marked improvement but was still a bit fuzzy, especially on italic fonts. Best text was quite sharp, with only a few tiny, stray dots.

We also printed an 8-by-10-inch color photo. The Draft sample required 91 seconds (0.7 pages per minute), Normal required 165 seconds (0.4 pages per minute), and Best required 619 seconds (0.1 pages per minute). Our test printer had a color ink flow problem, which affected the tint. We were unable to correct this problem by cleaning the head or by adjusting settings in the software, but our photo print samples were still very sharp.

Overall performance of the Xerox C8 was commensurate with a very low price, although the printing speed slower than we expected.

We had lot of problems with this printer. We just printed one color paper and ink cartridge was half empty. It takes lots of ink and quality is not at all good. We did not use it much after that and now we are planning to buy new printer. Not a Xerox one - of course.

If you want to loose your money buy it. The ink head spills out and the software that it's suppose to "control" the printer does not work. I can't understand how Xerox sells this to their "customers". Last time I ever buy Xerox.

I bought a xerox docuprint c8 two years ago and it worked fine for about 3 months then the black ink started to miss.Xerox sent me a replacement head. Four months later it went again and yet another print head was required.2years on and the same problem yet again.During this time I have only used 4 black ink cartridges and one set of colour. After several emails to Xerox the reply I received was that there profit was made on printer consumables such as ink and print heads & with print heads at $$$ a throw they are onto a good thing concidering the printer cost just over $$$ at the time.I do not believe that my machine was a one off as a relative bought the same printer about a month before I did and he has had the same problems.So if you are thinking of buying one it may seem ... good value, but in my experience it may be [better] to go for a more expensive brand I certainly intend to

Worked right out of the box. Had no problem getting it set up. Use it on a 4 computer network and everyone loves it. Cheap, quiet and acceptable print quality. Good buy for the price.
