The receiver divides the circuits handling low- and high-level audio signals into separate blocks to minimize the signals' influences on each other. This chassis design, new to the DRA-395, is called Signal Level Divided Construction (SLDC). The resultant output signals are cleaner than before, possessing greater fidelity and clarity.

The DRA-395's multi-source function lets you enjoy 2 different programs in up to 3 different rooms simultaneously by feeding the receiver's dedicated zone 2 and zone 3 preamp outputs to powered speakers or to other stand-alone amplifiers and standard speakers. With such a setup you could watch and listen to the DVD player in the main room while other family members listen to the CD player in other parts of the house. Separate A and B speaker outputs (with binding-post terminals for both sets) provide additional speaker setup flexibility.

The supplied RC-894 remote control commands not only the receiver but can also operate the main functions of a Denon CD player and a cassette deck. You can connect external remote control equipment, such as Denon's RC-616 and RC-617, which would permit use of the RC-894 remote from a sub room (zone 2 or 3) so you could switch a sub room output on and off, select a sub-room source, adjust volume, and recall preset radio stations.

The receiver offers 6 stereo analog audio inputs, including a phono input for use with your turntable. (The phono input is compatible only with moving-magnet-type phono cartridges.) The back panel sports 2 tape outputs.

Other useful features include bas and treble tone controls, tone defeat, muting from the remote, a motor-driven rotary volume control, last-function memory, and switched AC outlets for powering other components.

Sound is only ok. FM tuning is not fantastic.

But the big problem is that if there's a problem, a fuse (hidden inside the case, that the manual doesn't mention), blows. If you open the case and find it, you discover it's a 125V 6.3A mini fuse, which Radio Shack does not stock. (I can't tell if it's a slow blow or fast fuse, either. The manual should specify that; did I mention the manual does not mention the fuse exists at all?)

This is just ridiculously poor design. Fuses should be in externally accessible holders, they should be mentioned in the manual, there should be a spare in the shipping box, and in home use products, a shorted speaker lead shouldn't blow a fuse in the first place - the receiver should display a message and turn off the audio.

I don't know what they were thinking, but I'm thinking I'm sorry I bought this.

Denon is not what it used to be.......2006-03-22

If I could "easily" return this unit, I would - unfortunately I bought it via the web. The bottom line is that the unit just sounds OK, that's it. Yes it has lots of features, but the sound is just slightly better than a boom box. I hooked the same speakers, CD player, and monster cable interconnects up to another amp and it was much, much better - night and day. If you're OK with something that looks decent and has plenty of features, then maybe you'll like this unit. If you care about the quality of the sound and want "high fidelity", look else where. Denon has become a provider of mass market, made in China stuff these days - no where near the quality they delivered 10+ years ago.

Caution bying Denon because of parts situation.......2005-12-06

Let us say you go after a Denon. It may last forever,but what if any accessories, such as a lost remote had to be obtained from a contracted supplier in Florida with no close personal relationship to DNN Holdings, the Denon-Marantz outfit,from what I garner. My efforts to get a remote for a Denon deck,I bought just two years ago,ended in a one hour phone merry go round. Fortunately, there are third party learning remotes. Me, for a receiver, I would go with the big names, like Sony, Pioneer and JVC. They hold parts for many years. Regret a somewhat negative review for this essential aspect.

I selected this camera based on DV (of course), the 18x zoom, and "Analog In." Additional, "nice to have" features include IR shooting, and still camera mode. Be advised that while video performance is excellent, this unit is only an adequate still camera, and a low resolution one at that. Low-light performance is average - the inclusion of a small light is a nice touch. While feature packed, the menu system is a triffle cumbersome.

Minor annoyances - No tape included with the camera, no svideo cable, and a remote control is an additional purchase.

The Olympus Stylus Zoom 140 gave us fully automatic operation--when we opened the sliding lens cover, the zoom extended and the flash popped up automatically. The powerful 38 to 140mm zoom lens extended and retracted smoothly, giving us great close-up shots. We liked the multiple flash modes, which let us choose red-eye reduction, night-scene flash, and more. We also found the spot metering feature, for hard-to-gauge lighting situations, to be useful. Our only difficulty with this camera was in opening the battery compartment.

The Olympus Stylus Zoom 140 offers a handy panorama switch that lets you take panoramic photos on a roll of regular film. (You can take an entire panorama roll as well.) If you do take panoramic shots on a regular roll, you'll have to get them specially reprinted in the panorama format.

The Olympus Stylus Zoom 140's sturdy construction and sleek form make it easy to carry and hold. The camera is weatherproof, meaning you can use it in rain, in snow, and by water, but you can't submerge it.

Great photos, tiny camera........1999-12-26

I recently purchased a 140DLX, and I just got my first set of pictures back. I have NO formal photographic training, but I was simply blown away by the quality of the photos I got back. To me, they looked similar to photos I've seen from really expensive, complicated cameras with all those removable lenses.

I wanted to buy an APS camera, because of the simplicity of loading film. If this is a concern of yours, buy this camera. It's ridiculously easy. APS film shots tend to look grainy, because the negative is smaller than 35mm, so there's another plus.

To me, the coolest feature was spot metering. You can get some really incredible color and life in your photos, and you can also simulate "focusing" on one object, while having other objects in the scene out of focus.

I suggest reading the entire manual, then blow a test roll (find a willing sibling, like I did) on the camera with different camera settings and lighting conditions so you can see what it will do when you really need it. And make SURE to try spot metering on things in the foreground and background so you get the concept. You'll be really impressed with this camera!

Did not work well at all.......2001-12-17

I bought this card and returned it in a matter of hours. It is very slow on any read operation, and I had several problems trying to write to the card using a reader that worked well on every other CF card I own. Save yourself trouble and get a Sandisk.

This is my second attempt at writing a review on this card. Let's just say that after getting a piece that actually recognized in my system (all very high end components) that I was NOT impressed with the speed compared to others I have tried. Good luck.

Up To Speed.......2001-08-02

I have been a fan of Memorex blank media for the past 4 years and when they first came out with memory cards I stuck with Memorex. The price was right, as they usually are, but it was a little slow. I recently decided to give Memorex memory cards another try because again you can't beat the price. Anyway I was pleasently surprised to find out their 64MB card was just as fast as any other brand and I am going to step up to the 128MB.

Good stick, but a few problems.......2004-02-14

I bought an iStick and have been using it for flight sims. Overall it's a pretty good joystick but I've found a few problems. It has a nice weighted base, but the plastic in the handle is a bit flimsy. The handle is seamed and gives a bit or even cracks if you grip it too tightly. The HAT switch is also pretty flimsy plastic and can crack or even come off in use. There are 2 centering dials which are useful for calibration, but I found I had to use the iStick Manager software to re-center the joystick fairly often. My biggest problem with the stick though is that after a week or two of use the internal centering tabs break and the joystick ceases to 'bounce' back to center. This is a design flaw, because (after taking the joystick apart) I found that the internal spring mechanism is held in place and centered by a very tiny and thin plastic protrusion. After repeated use (and back and forth movement) the protrusion breaks off. If MacAlly had used metal for this protrusion (or even made it of thicker plastic) this would be an excellent joystick. But as is, it only lasts a few weeks with hard use.

definitliy a good buy for mac users. It has very good control control and very few glitches. I reccommend it highly. Macally made another good one.
