To start off with, I'm surprised by the bad reviews this computer has recieved on this site. This is my 3rd emachine in several years and I've never had bad luck with any of them. The only reason I didn't give this computer 5 stars is that it only shipped with 256MB Ram and has a CD R/RW instead of the current DVD R/RW. That was adequate for me until recently and I am in the process of upgrading with another 512MB today. I originally bought this model about 2 years ago and my kids (8&12) also used (abused) it for about 1 1/2 of those 2 yrs. The only problems I've had are software related.
My next computer will likely be another emachine or another self built one. I'd recommend this over a Dell any day. I've used other name brand computers, too, mostly at work and my emachine has been better than any of them, for the money. I bought mine at Best Buy for $400.00 and change.

Emachines woes T2824.......2006-05-03

I bought 3 machines because the price was right, and I thought they would last a couple of years. When the first one died, I thought it was supply related so I swapped in one from a good one to confirm. It not only didn't fix it, but the 2nd one no longer worked. Freak coincidence? Carefully swapping in the 3rd supply into the 2nd machine confirmed the 2nd one was bad. When the 3rd supply was moved back into #3, it failed to work, just as dead as #2. I used an ESD strap and was very careful. Emachines said the mother boards were bad and I needed to buy a new one (make that three). They happen to ship a free different model power supply with their new mother boards because (with the original) many people were having problems getting them to work together. After they changed models of the supply the problems disapeared. To me, this indicates the premature release of a marginal design. They refused to fix the situation after the warranty expired. They should have issued a recall. They get an "F", and lose a customer.

After 9 Months.......2006-02-25

Dead...wont even boot up. Luckily eMachines has a good tech support and they are willing to give me a new PC. But ofr the nine months it worked, it was a great value for the money. I'll only recommend it if I saw it work for longer than that.

Emachines T4892 is great for our family...........2006-01-29

Just a short review to let you know were are very pleased with our Emachines T4892. Purchased it in June 2004, and have never had any technical problems or issues to deal with. Comes with the CD-RW drive, 80GB hard drive, 256mb RAM. It holds more memory than we could ever need since we don't use it for a business. Great for everyday use such as basic word processing, high-speed internet use, etc.

Two years strong and probably not giving up anytime soon. I would purchase another Emachines product in a heartbeat, since it's the second Emachines computer I've had since purchasing the first one in December 2001 (and the only reason why I was forced into purchasing the model I have now is because the 2001 computer died when we dropped it to the ground as we moved from one home into another- that one had lasted 2 1/2 years without any issues as well). Great computers for great prices!

I bought this PC and after 30 days it won't even boot up. Very disappointing.

Pretty good.......2004-09-24

I have owned this player for 3 months now. The picture and sound quality are excellent. However, my player does skip frames very slowly during layer changes, and sometimes does this just ramdomly as well.
It's an unfortunate problem, but at least it's a very good player other than that.

Style Over Substance (and quality).......2003-02-14

The picture quality is good except during fast panning even in progressive scan. A fast pan creates a slight stutter in the image which some may not notice but its there. A much worse problem is the DVD drives well know "glitches" when playing dual layered DVDs. Layer changes are slow skip frames. The worse problem is that the drive will occasionally just stutter during a DVD when there is no layer change at all. These problems are known by the tech savvy on the web (just do a search) and plague many of the Q50 in US and abroad. I returned my first one and got a replacement. It was better but not 100%. I then found a firmware upgrade which also seemed to help a bit. The bottom line is that this drive is not worth the hassles at any price.

Hard to believe how good the picture is........2002-11-04

I just hooked this puppy up to my Sony KV-34 XBR800 1080i tude HDTV using progressive component.

Wow.

It's very hard to tell that this is not a 1080i input. I mean this thing is crisp!

Why pay the 2x the cost of say a Sony 715? That's easy: Farouda (sic?) line doubling is -way- better than Sony, and I'm a big fan of Sony.

However after spending an afternoon of plugging every DVD player that "Good Guys" had (~20) into the -same- TV, it was easy to see that the Phillips was the best.

An easy way to make the conclusion that Phillips is better: Phillips is the only manufacturer that goes to the trouble of making a -technical- demo DVD to show why their picture is best. I used it in Sony, JVC, Technics, Panasonic, etc. Makes it very easy to see what you are getting...

Like all the other retail stores, they plug the good DVD players into good TV's and lame ones into lame TV's and then try to trick you into spending as much as you can. Often they even have the same model of TV adjusted for lame color, etc. DO yourself a big favor and make sure they plug the DVD players into the same set...

It really is much better than the cheaper units in the pack of ... products, and even better IMHO than almost all of the >... players. Time for Sony to get a clue...
