I'm sorry to say that this printer is a real lemon. I'd not had it long, when suddenly it gave me an error message to replace the magenta ink cartridge, which I did, but then it wouldn't print saying that all the ink cartridges needed to be replaced. I had just replaced magenta, so I humored it and replaced them all with brand new Epson ink, and guess what! it still says they are all empty! it won't print now, and I contacted the epson customer service and they accused me of using bad ink. It's Epson ink I'm using, and wasting money replacing brand new cartridges to boot!! Don't ever by an Epson. I have a friend that has another model, and when I called to ask to borrow her printer to print a document she told me it was not working because it was telling her it was out of ink even though she'd put in all new cartridges! What a rip off.

Deceptive Ink Ripoff - Never buy Epson.......2007-07-02

After printing quite a few pages of black text, I was not surprised when the "ink light" went on. I replaced the black cartridge (and congratulated myself for having purchased a half dozen of them at a good price over the internet) and went on to continue my project. But the ink light was still on. I took out the cartridge, shook it, reinserted it over and over. I went to the Epson website to get a new driver. The new driver allowed me to see my ink status. The black cartridge was full, but the color was empty - all 3 of the colored cartridges had suddenly become empty. I smelled a fish. Feeling tricked, I inserted my new black cartridges into the colored slots. No luck. Total loss. Trash can time. I will NEVER buy from Epson again.

Great Printer.......2007-06-28

I like everything about this printer. I've bought several for home and office use. I like the flat bed scanner, and ease of use. I don't use it for photo's as it really uses a lot of ink. I like that I can use the copier feature for black or color - even if the computer is turned off.

I cannot recommend this printer. I second the reviews where one is not allowed to print B&W without 3 other functioning cartridges. My most
serious problem is that after about a year of routine use, replacing cartridges when empty, etc, the heads on our printer are now clogged. They do not unclog with the head cleaning procedure because the darn thing is convinced its cartridges are empty. They are most certainly NOT empty, as we had just purchased a whole new set of cartridges. Arrrrgh! If I cannot get this printer to work pretty soon I'm gonna unplug it and put it in the trash.

I bought the inkjet cartridges on the reviews here, but the reviews here are wrong about the product (the ones with more than 3 starts). The black cartridges worked awful. One I had to throw it away after printing few pages and "cleaning" the printer heads a thousand times. Color cartridge seems to work good. Tip: If you are stuck with this already, use it to print things for yourself (drafts, articles), never, never for a final job or report, for that have your real Epson cartridge available.

I don't know how many after-market manufactures of this ink has been sold through Amazon and other places but I found one that works so good I am going to purchase some more very soon. The manufacture seems to be "CeBIT CTC Global Sources". I have never seen them before but there so many manufactures it's hard to know them all. The ink cartridges seem to be very well made and packaged very nice! I have had to use two cartridges so far with no drips, spots, clogging or anything bad happening to my printer or documents I have printed. I do know that a friend of mine had purchased the same ink and he told me he had many problems so I went to his house and had a look for myself. He forgot to pull the yellow tab of paper off the cartridge so the ink can flow on its own. After I pulled the tabs off for him everything worked very good. One think that I did not like is the lack of any documentation for the installation of the cartridges. Other than that it has been a very nice experience and I hope more users can have as much luck as I did. One last thing to look at when you purchase the ink is the "Use Before" date. If that was out of date it may give you some troubles so keep an eye out. My use before date was 2009-12-31 and the production date is January 2006. I hope this helped someone.

These are dirt cheap generic versions of the insanely overpriced originals, and they are compatible with both of my Epson printers. As far as performance, I've had no smudging or "wet" printing issues, no difficulty installing, really nothing but clean crisp photocopies. No worries, mate.

This stuff doesn't work well at all. I waste more money in paper than i saved buying the ink just to clean my print heads every other day because lines gaps keep appearing. What a headache. Just take a hit and buy the epson ink and save yourself the hassle of troubleshooting.

Cheap ink is just that!.......2007-07-30

Ordered these when I bought the printer. It came with Epson Ink, which works just fine. When I used this "compatible" ink, I've had nothing but problems with the head, which requires constant cleaning and still skips places. I threw this junk away and went back to paying (thru the nose) for Epson ink.

I got my lyra 2 about 5 years ago and it worked perfectly untill now. It took 5 years of getting beat up from droping, going in my backpack and in my pockets for it to finally fall apart. Mp3 players like this (flash memory based) are better than the new ipods that break after a week and have moving parts in them. THink about would you rather buy a product that lasts for 1 week or 5 years. Over all this mp3 player is a ton better than any ipod.

Allow this review of a long-standing owner (2 years) to address some of the concerns by those reviews below. Although the Lyra 2 is not as readily available, it is still out there in the marketplace and for those considering it for purchase, get all the information you can, as you would with any MP3 player.

1.) The bitrate issue was entirely related to the MusicMatch software, which has been addressed (removed) through subsequent releases. You have the option of capping bitrates at 96, 128 or 160 kbps if you wish to conserve card space (if you listen to books on tape, OTR or the like it isn't as much of an issue) but you don't have to. You can download at 190, 320 or VBR if you want.

2.) The player still comes with a 32MB CompactFlash card. I also have a digital camera which uses CompactFlash, and part of my decision to choose the Lyra was because of the same memory platform. I can use the cards in either as I need them. Since then, I have purchased additional cards for the camera and now have lots of additional storage to use for the Lyra. A 2GB Compact Flash card holds a lot of music and obviates the need to continually burn CDs.

I've never had functionality problems with the unit, have been able to set up folders on the cards when downloading music to organize it and navigate through them without any issues. The player has taken a lot of abuse, traveling and commuting and being used in the car with the supplied cassette adapter. It's never failed me yet. I do prefer earbuds and never bothered with the headphones that came with the unit. That is just my preference.

It has provided me with great battery life but I do recommend rechargeable NiMH batteries instead of throwaway alkalines if you intend to use it a lot.

Compare it with others and the memory provided, flexibility to upgrade memory and price when you make your decision. At the time it was released this was the only portable on the market with an FM tuner; there is a far greater selection now.

Compact Flash memory still gives you better battery life then HDD players like an iPod or Jukebox. If the batteries die, you can pop in a couple of spare AA's and keep going. With a HDD player, you're out of luck unless you can plug it into the car or go home and recharge it for several hours.

Piece Of Crap.......2002-07-19

I hate this thing. actually it only worked once. i got a few songs on it. now it is incapable of reading anything and i intend on replacing it in the near future. avoid at all costs. id recomend mp3 cd or high mp3 player such as the ones made by Rio and the apple ipod for you mac owners

It's a really good product, that is before the warenty expires. It is really versitile. I love the Compact Flash Media Card. All you do is hook up the external drive to your computer and transfer files to another computer. I have had a problem with it though. Sometimes when you turn it on and hit play or enter for the digital music or radio it wont work. Other times while listning to digital music it'll shuffle through random play, suffle, scan, etc.... and it'll also go to contrast w/o you pressing anything. Also for radio it'll only play your presets it wont let you listen to any other stations.

Light, Small, Unlimited Flash Memory and Easy to Use.......2002-01-08

When shopping for players, I overlooked Lyra2 because it appears on most sites as having only 64 MB, but I recieved it as a gift and it is GREAT! Because the MP3s are stored on a Flash card, memory is effectively unlimited (I just saw a 514 MB card for sale). I carry it while running - it's small enough to tuck into my shorts and light enough that it doesn't bounce all over. The radio tuner is a neat feature that I'm glad to have, as is the "lock" that prevents buttons from getting pushed unintentionally. It'd be nice if it accepted better quality sound files, but it's not as though I listen to it through top-quality headphones while sitting in a quiet room. I recommend this player for people who will be out-and-about (you pobably won't notice anything lacking in the sound). Also, if you're getting your MP3s online, chances are they're 128 BPS anyway.
