Great for the price!.......2007-09-11

This camera has served me well over the last few years. There are a few things that you need to be aware of however. The first thing is that the flash has a delay. You have to wait for it to recharge in between each picture if you are using the flash and that can take at least 6-8 seconds. Taking pictures of children can be challenging if you are using the flash! With that said, the camera has been great. It is very simple to learn!

As a golfer and a picture-taking fan, this camera is soo good...and you can take movies with sound....and the camera is small- However it uses expensive type memory (xd) so take that into account when buying.

Neither the flash mechanism nor the battery compartment have broken...they are fine.
I am not a pro...but I will say it takes a good clear picture if you bother to learn a bit about it and photography itself. It does have problems in lower lighting, but overall I love the reliability, and I use it to photograph my artwork for print sales and for slides.
So there you have it. It's good enough to trust my income with.
But nothing is going to do ALL the work for you...at least not if you want to pay a reasonable amount of money. Be willing to learn a bit about how cameras work in general and about lighting and composition and color.

Fair price for the product.......2007-06-24

Bought this just weeks before a two-week road trip, and had to learn in a hurry. Camera is a step up from my Nikon Cool Pix. Optical viewfinder is a must-have. Camera comes with bonus stuff - cords, card, batteries & charger, although the card is too small. Recommend buying an additional 1G card, a camera case, and at least 2 more pair of NIMH batteries. On active shoots, batteries only lasted 4 hours. Camera has more options than Cool Pix and additional lenses are available. Good stabilization. Have not tried video yet.

The Fujifilm Finepix E550 is a 6.3 megapixel digital camera that has the same design as the cheaper Finepix E510 and E500, but definitely much improved in a number of key features.

The Fujifilm FinePix E550 will appeal to beginners and amateur photographers alike, being an easy-to-use digital camera that can be used in Auto mode, as well as providing full exposure flexibility for those who want to improve their creative skills in digital photography.

The Fujifilm FinePix E550 digital camera is equipped with a special sensor which gives a resolution of 6.3MP, it also features a 4x optical zoom lens with a focal length of 32. The camera's response is extremely fast, and navigating through the menu functions are very easy to handle.

Image quality of Fujifilm FinePix E550, when shot in situations with plenty of light, at ISO 80, the photos were sharp with well-saturated colors, good white balance, and clear details in the midtones and shadows.

The Fujifilm Finepix E550 is a definitive improvement on its cheaper version, the E510 and E500, and is definitely a quicker and more capable camera. Although not the slimmest camera on the market, I find the Fujifilm FinePix E550 a solid performer, easy to use, produces exceptionally sharp, brilliant images that will blow up to A3.

I am quite impressed with the Fujifilm Finepix E550. You won't miss shots with the 6MP FujiFilm FinePix E550, and you'll be very satisfied with your photos.

Gave it two chances.......2007-07-07

I was very happy with this camera the first time I bought it at full price. Then after about a year the lcd screen went crazy. I thought it might have just worn out so when I saw the remanufactured one at a great price I bought one. Unfortunately after a few months the screen on this one went also. Stay away from this model.

I have enjoyed it and think I was really smart to find it refurbished on Amazon. Instead of paying $377.00 for it, I got it for $111.00. Works great and I like the software that comes with it.

Bought a "recertified" E550 - Stopped Working Within Hours.......2006-11-07

I was very excited when I received this camera. I liked it very much, and thought I was getting a lot of camera for the money. Sure enough, the pictures looked great, very true color, nice to handle, Black & White setting. It was a little heavy and uses those XD cards, but overall I really liked it. Then, within about three hours of owning it - after less then ten pictures - something had gone awry. The zoom lens was stuck, it wouldn't move and an error message kept appearing. Then, the camera would shut off. That's when I referenced the manual and found out that it wasn't a fixable error. It had to be fixed by the manufacturer. I guess I know why I couldn't find a new one on-line, and why there were so many refurbished. I still really like Fuji cameras, but I wouldn't trust this model, especially a "recertified" one. I have since learned that I am not the only person who has found this out the hard way. Lucky, I was able to return mine for a refund.

I ordered a fuji E550, very nice camera, everything that was supposed to be with it was. Happy with the way it was packed and a speedy delivery to boot. Inall it was a good experience and would shop here again.

Couldn't be better.......2001-01-15

When i saw this monitor i didnt believe it was possible to put a flat screen on a regular monitor. It just blew my mind, I had to buy it instantly. When i got it home and started running my computer at 1024x760 it looked beautiful. Not to mention playing Quake2 in high resolution was beautiful. Being 17 inches with 16 inches is quite good, and i cant wait to watch DVD's on it, all that this monitor needs is to get rid of the two mounting lines you can see when the screen is white, there are these two lines horizontially across the screen that arent really noticable unless screen is white and your looking for them, the manual says they are "shadows from the damper wires used to stabalize the aperture grille". personally i dont care what the lines are, but all i know is if they were to fix the lines this monitor wouldnt have been affordable to me. So for a final rating i give it a Best Buy!.

HP customer support a joke!.......2004-04-09

I bought this monitor in November of '03. I have sent it back twice and still don't have possession. I was told in February of this year that they would put a "rush" on it for repair. Still haven't seen it! I guess their idea of a rush and mine are two different things.
I was a HUGE Sony fan. Was is the key word here. They will not replace it, sent it back once and said there was nothing wrong with it after having it for 5 weeks. I guess they don't mind having blurred print and discolorations throughout. I will not be buying another Sony product again. Customer support is now an oxymoron.

Sleek design, average performance.......2002-10-18

Images and text on this monitor are ok, the design is steril and industrial. Once you get close and touch it, it feels "plasticky" and flimsy.
It is in the same price range with other 18" LCD monitors but lacks some of their features, such as a DVI input or height adjustment.
I would recommend the ViewSonic, Samsung or even the Mitsubishi monitors, due to image quality and features over this one any day.

Hmm, I bought my SDM-81b over 7 years ago, and have no issues with it (I am using it now, to write this review.) I have got to say that they my fellow consumer's reviews below are all flukes, bad luck, whatever. My old Sony LCD monitor is crisp, clean, and clear. It is sitting next to my huge, brand new wide screen monitor (a couple of months old,) and compares very well.

I've had the monitor about 2 years and it started doing that funky pixel flash thing that others have seen. Very disapointing considering the usual Sony quality.

I thought it must be electronics going bad, but thanks to the poster below I took off the covers and was able to fix it. Or at least the pixel-flash went away for now.

Just taking the covers off did not work for me. It still was messing up. But then I pushed on all the connectors on the main electronics board, and after pushing on the one that is near the center of the board, it started working fine.

The connector I'm talking about is the one with a metal strap holding it down. You might want to give it a try before junking it. I'm hoping for the best...

Great Image after you fix it.......2005-01-16

I had problems with this monitor 5 months after I received it. I saw pixels flickering in green all over the screen. It appeared to be electronic noise or interference. I sent it in to Sony for repairs and it was fine for 7 months and then the problem occurred again. This time sony wanted $275 to fix it since the warranty period had expired. FOR ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM DO THE FOLLOWING:

- Remove the screws to the pedestal, and remove the pedestal
- put the monitor face down and remove the screws holding the back cover in place.

- carefully pry off the back cover (it snaps onto the front cover.

- You will see two heat shields covering the power suppy and controller card.

- Remove them (if you plug your monitor back into your system you will notice that the noise problem is gone)

- Line the inside of the heat shield that does not make contact with the IC with duct tape and secure the cables that are under the controller card with duct tape

- Put the heat shields, back cover, and pedestal back on.

- The problem should be gone.

Really BAD LCD !!!.......2004-08-29

The LCD is beginning to go bad. Green hazy areas - comes and goes. I started checking out websites to see if there were any reported problems and came accross the reviews posted here about the major problems with the LCD. I guess trying to get a replacement is not going to help.

I was a real Sony fan. I've always bought Sony T.Vs. This has really ticked me off.
