The Ott-Lite VisionSaver lamp simulates natural daylight, reducing eyestrain and allowing you to see colors and image definition more accurately. Developed by Dr. John Nash Ott, the Ott-Lite uses a blend of phosphors to provide a natural light that won't wear on you over time like other artificial lighting can.

The Ott-Lite has no on/off switch, but the light turns off automatically when the lamp is folded down. The base of the lamp can be swiveled 360 degrees for a perfect fit in any work environment. Standing at just 12 inches tall, the portable Ott-Lite is best suited for task lighting. A convenient carrying handle allows you to move it easily from one workspace to another.

When we examined the Ott-Lite, we found its light does resemble natural daylight more than that of a standard desk lamp. The Ott-Lite's 5-inch bulb provided a crisp yet soothing light without being too bright, while standard desk lamps often give off an unfocused yellowish glow. Colors appeared more accurate with the Ott-Lite, and it seemed to cause less glare on our computer screen, so the screen's text and detail looked sharper.

Don't be put off by the seemingly high price tag of this little 13V gem of a lamp, the Ott is worth every penny. Finally, I can work at night with the equivalent of daylight illuminating my work space. If the use of color is in any way salient to your medium, you'll love this lamp.

Small coverage area.......2002-11-10

I work on beaded jewelry, and bought this little lamp to help me see the bead colors more clearly in the evening hours. The light definitely fulfills its claims to make colors vivid and true, and it does make it possible for me to find and match colors accurately. Its portability is nice, and I like how the top arm with the bulb inside folds down to make it compact, and how the light automatically turns on when you raise the arm. The problem I have with the lamp is that the objects I want to see distinctly must be placed on the work surface directly under the bulb. The brightest part of the light only covers about a foot and a half diameter, and beyond that the light is too dim to make a difference. To take advantage of the light, I must keep my beads in a small space under the lamp, which is about 14 inches above the tabletop. It could be improved if they made this lamp with a larger visible work area.

This is a great product, if you like this kind of lighting. It doesn't weigh much and comes with a handle, so it's very easy to carry. Unfortunately, it won't illuminate an entire room, unless the space is very small--but it's not meant to. It makes a very slight humming sound that's barely audible. All in all, I'm very happy with it and may buy a second one.

I've used my Ott light for two years. This is the most amazing light. I love it for sewing (colors are true, the light allows depth in the fabric so I can see the individual strands). I even use it for grooming my Shi Tzu (I can see the individual hairs and clear out the mats.) My husband kept borrowing mine, but now he has one too.

Fire Hazard.......2001-04-10

I got one of these for Christmas and it has sat in my closet ever since. The problem is that the light doesn't fit snuggly into the base and as a result, this won't shut off. Since there is no on/off switch, I can't just shut it off and have to pull the plug every time I want to shut it off. A zippo lighter would be more convenient for lighting up my workspace!!
