                      Same as the other guy said. Horrible engineering. There is literally nowhere to put the IDE cable once the drive has been installed, you have to fold it over and crush it over wich places a lot of pressure in the top cover of the drive. That cant be good... Even then its damn near impossible to get the cover on. As if that wasn't enough, the emits a LOUD high pitched whine that is alot louder than the rest of my pc combined, yet does almost nothing to move any air over the drive itself. As if that wasnt enough, the fans bearing was worn out within ONE WEEK, and started wobbling on its axis making a EVEN LOUDER noise. I ended up just throwing the cover away and using it without it. I read somewhere Orange Micro uses a "custom BIOS" for the TI controller chip wich supposedly makes it perform better than similar products... Probably an excuse to justify the REDICULOUS pricetag of this product compared to others. Orange Micro is a BS company that charges way too much for products that use the same chips from taiwan that can be had for less than haf as much from other manufacturers. Stay Away, unless you enjoy throwing your money away.

                      I'm not thrilled with this enclosure. My first problem was that the installation of the drive required smashing the connecting cable in half. I think the cable is sufficiently delicate that such abuse shouldn't be required. It took me several tries before I could get the drive to work with the enclose lid in place. The space is too small between the drive and the enclose electronics, and the cable is too long. Now that it is working, I dislike a couple of things about it. It doesn't automatically turn off when my Mac is shut down. I have to switch off the drive manually. The fan on the drive is also much noisier than on any off-the-shelf external hard drive/enclosure I've bought in years. In a quiet room it is annoying. I don't know yet if the drive, enclosure, or the cable caused this problem, but the drive spontaneously disconnected during use once. It remains to be seen if this repeats itself. I would at least investigate other FireWire 800 enclosure options before buying this one.
