Product Description
Watching movies at home will never be the same. Get ready for over twice the definition of standard VHS and CD quality sound. It's DVD, the ultimate in home entertainment, and now you can own this exciting new technology in an affordable package. You can view movies in a wide screen format, in another language (with compatible discs), and with distortion-free special effects. And GE DVD players are totally compatible with music CDs, giving you the centerpiece of a high performance video and audio system.
Amazon.com Product Description
Enjoy cinema-quality video and sound at home with GE's GE1101P DVD player. The GE1101P features high-resolution video performance with multiple aspect ratios that can be switched between 4:3 and 16:9 (widescreen) at the touch of a button. And since it's both standard CD and MP3-CD compatible, you can use it to enjoy your favorite regular-format compact discs as well as MP3-encoded discs, CD-Rs, Video CDs, Super Video CDs, and DVD-Video movies.
The audio features on the GE1101P include Dolby Digital and DTS Bit Stream Output (through both coaxial and optical jacks) for full 5.1-channel surround sound capability. Upping the ante for fun, the GE1101P offers a microphone input for karaoke capability--just put on a karaoke CD, plug in your microphone (not included), and enjoy the music mixed with your singing right from your home speakers. You can even add reverberation to help cover for unsavory vocal quality!
GE has also built in a host of convenient features to take full advantage of DVD technology. A screen saver kicks in when a disc is paused for any length of time (preventing a still image from burning into your TV screen), while parental control keeps young eyes from viewing discs of your choice, and picture zoom lets you magnify scenes or stills of particular interest. A jog-shuttle dial control provides automatic track selection for CDs, and a full complement of other operational controls are included on the front panel.
The connectivity options on the GE1101P DVD player include standard composite-video and high-quality S-video outputs (for use with compatible TVs and/or surround receivers).
GE's GE1101P DVD player comes with a remote control (three AAA batteries included).
Customer Reviews:
Good cheap DVD player.......2007-04-22
I've had mine for 3 years or so without any real problems at all. The power button thing is odd, but I've left mine running for 24 plus hours several times without problems. And this was in a 80+ degree room without any form of extra cooling. My major gripe is the MP3 menu is garbage. It doesn't display the titles very well and for some reason it doesn't place them in the order on the disc, but rather places cycles through them in a weird alphabetical order. But as cheap as this was to buy I'm amazed it even can play everything that it does. I like the looks too, it looks like an old school piece of electronics which fits in well with everything else I have that's at least 10 years old.
Best Dvd player I've ever used.......2005-02-27
Okay here's the deal, yes there are beter dvd players out there, no they are NOT worth the extra money as there is very little that is wrong with this one. 1st off this is a good dvd player, it will play your movies with no problems pauses or skips, 2 It plays vcd's and I've heard(and about to test)that it can play mpeg cd's. this should NOT be bought for the karaoake feature, get a karaoake machine for that, its great fun though, to play with the voices on the dvd(I found it hilarious on harry potter to turn harry's voice really low and then turn Hagrid's voice up really high). Now after about 2 or 3 years it quit reading disc, started saying "no disc" no matter what disc I put in. I unscrewed the top pannel took it off and found that it quit spinning the disc. All it takes is a lil nudge and it works, so you might haft to do a little dirty work but its worth it for the cheap dvd player is it not? It only took about 2 minutes to take the lid off and you should see what I'm talking about after doing that. However that might void any warranty but I have had it so long the warrinty is void anyways. I HIGHLY suggest getting this player, never found a dvd player as good as it before(regardless of price, but a portable version of this dvd player would be nice GE >_^)
Overall great product, but misleading packaging.......2005-01-04
I've had this dvd player for a long time now (probably about 4 years or so) and it works great. It was cheap at the time i bought it considering all of the features. It still works like new even after 4 years of use, and I practically never turn it off because I'm way too lazy to go up to the thing to press power. It does have some bad things about it though. Like the fact the remote doesn't have a power button kind of pis*es me off. But oh well. Also, it lets customers believe that it's a karaoke machine, when really you can only plug in a mic and sing along, but not play cd+g. It really should say that somewhere in the box or the manual, but still, for the money, that's really all you can expect.
Was this really only $100??.......2004-09-26
This product is great. Although it is a very cheaply made player, and actually built by a company called Shinco out of China (as are the majority of Apex DVD players), I could not have asked for something better in a DVD player.
Contrary to what everyone else has said, I have not EVER had ONE single problem with my 1101p, and I have had it for approximately 2 years. I am worried it will have a problem soon though, because since I am an electronics geek and all, I noticed one problem... there's no ventilation for the heat generated by internal parts! This however can simply be solved by drilling a few holes in the cover above the main processing unit, and if you wanna go all the way with cooling, then install a small heat sink and CPU fan.
Other than that I have very few qualms about it. EVERY single disc I've ever thrown into this thing that was burned correctly has played, without any problems. It plays everything from VCDs to SVCDs to MP3 discs to burned CDRs, as well of course industrial discs. And believe it or not, this even plays the dreaded DVD+R and DVD+RW discs without preference to certain dyes on the disc or anything. I have not tested DVD-R or DVD-RWs however. And it does not play DVD-RAMS, but pretty much nothing but Panasonic players do anyway. The video quality is exceptional out of the box, and now it's even better for me since I upgraded the firmware. It made a difference, and also loads discs faster. (If you're thinking about doing this, be sure to know what you're doing, otherwise you will literally not be able to use your DVD player again, and it's irreversible if you mess up. Stick with the original if you don't even know what to do, I'm just a geek). It also has DTS streaming output in addition to Dolby, which is very rare for a player in this price range, as well as a digital optical output, which is also rare for a low-end player. I have it hooked up through the oaxial out to my Sony HT receiver, and it plays 5.1 surround pretty well. It even has an adjustable DRC (Dynamic Range Compressor, a feature also known as Midnight Theater) built in. The player, really, all in all, is close to perfect.
However, nothing is perfect. I DO have a few issues with this: one is the remote control. This is because it is very poorly laid out and I still search for buttons after having it for 2 years. The power switch also works purely on voltage interruption rather than software standby, so you have to go to the unit to turn it off manually. Secondly, the MP3 file on-screen identification is close to a joke. It does not display more than the first 6 characters of a file name, when burned in the Joliet data disc format. Thirdly is another reference to the remote: the function of menu selection is not on the front panel of the player, so if you lose or break the remote, you lose menu control. My last qualm is the uselessness of both the karaoke interface and the built-in volume, mute, pitch, and echo controls. First off, this is a DVD player, if you want karaoke go buy a karaoke machine. If you really are into karaoke, you'd happen to figure out that you should burn karaoke CDs as VCDs or SVCDs, not CD-Gs, for this model. Secondly, why would you need a volume and mute control if they are so far from being refined? It does not have memory for any of the settings and does not effectively adjust the sound levels in equal increments. Useless feature. I hate useless features.
Oh, I also don't like how the mainboards inside were mounted with the screws going through the bottom of the case, thus the player sits up from the surface relatively high. The size is large too. But this is being picky. The unit is generally attractive.
ALl in all, this player rules. If you want a player that plays everything well, is easily upgradeable for you tech geeks like me, and all for a killer price, look no further than this player right here.
to the people who had problems, here's the solutions:
To the person who had the picture with the rolling black and white bars, that's probably because your TV works on one standard such as NTSC or PAL and the player's output is set to the opposite. To correct this, while a movie is playing, hit the "clear" button on the remote.
For the person who could not get their MP3s to play (29 out of 129 files on the cd)... a few things you might have run into: one is maybe just your burner did not burn the CD correctly. Second is because you exceeded the maximum directory depth/number of files in one directory. Third is because the bitrate may be incompatible with the player (I elieve this supports from 64 KBPS - 320 KBPS CBR, and some VBR files). Last, is because you authored the files in MPEG II encoding format where the samplerate is 48000 HZ - I believe this player will only play MP3 files authored at 44100 HZ (I tried to play a file once at 22000 HZ and it was garbled).
Last, to the people who have movies lock up on them: it's most likely not the player, it's likely the DVD, believe it or not, there are such things as "bad DVDs". Sometimes the layer transitions are not correctly set or it just plain wasn't recorded correctly... even though these things ARE rare.
Hope this review helps.
Not a good buy.......2004-01-11
Have this machine. Much to my disappointment it was not able to handle the Dual Layer DVD. Just told me it could not find the disc. Tried with two different DVD's.

Have used the FS516 for the past two years in small business network consisting of Dell server, HP/Compaq work stations, HP, Samsung and Brother printers, and Sonicwall firewall without any problems. Previously had the FS108 but eventually required more than eight ports. FS516 has been replaced by the JFS516.

The previous reviewer said her TV blew out. I would like to mention that this product states that it is for computers, not TVs. Maybe that was the problem?

I have this power surger for several years and have liked. Recently I had a huge surge to my house and it blew out my sony 36" tv which was connected to the surger. I need to get in touch with the manufacturer to get them to own up on their guarantee. Anyone have the phone number or address? The phone number I have is disconnected.

- 2-way acoustic-suspension design

- 25 to 150 watts recommended power

Product Description
If you want high-end sound on a budget, or you simply don't have room for large speakers, the NHT SuperOne was designed for you. These compact and easy-to-place loudspeakers are at home on bookshelves, mounted on walls or prominently placed on stands. Performance Series speakers are magnetically shielded for use in home theaters and are compatible with any of NHT's subwoofers for added dynamics.NHT goal for the SuperOne was to create an exact duplicate of the SuperZero but with the addition of an extra octave of bass. Employing a larger woofer and slightly larger cabinet, the SuperOne has improved dynamic range, better detail and will play louder with less distortion. With bass response down to 57Hz, a subwoofer is an option, not a necessity. Considered by many to be the least expensive "high-end" loudspeaker on the market, the SuperOne handles a surprising range of musical material with little compromise.
Customer Reviews:
Great for music and theater.......2005-10-20
As another reviewer has suggested, NHT Super ones make great L/R (and even center, though I use an NHT super center model) speakers for home theater, with the super zeros being excellent choices for rear speakers when using Dolby Digital or DTS sources. For Dolby Prologic, dipolar surrounds are the recommended construction. My Denon Receiver allows me to hook up two types of surround speakers and assign them depending on the source (i.e. VCR or stereo TV with Dobly Pro Logic encoding for the dipolar surrounds and Super Zeros or Super Ones for DD/DTS. I have not actually run the wires for this, however.
With a subwoofer, the NHT Super Ones easily form a truly first rate audio system for not much money. In fact, the Super Ones are very nice without a subwoofer as long as you don't need a big bass sound for movies or music (they have credible bass and a balanced sound on their own). This is not the case with Super Zeros: they really need a subwoofer or the sound is too unbalanced towards the treble side of the audio spectrum. This is not a flaw: the super zeros were simply meant to be used with a subwoofer under all conditions.
NHT Super Ones provide a system that is easily far better than standard stereo racks from appliance stores or chain stores, no matter what speaker size they come with (please NEVER buy those! They just obscure the music and sound like mush). You will not find better sound unless you spend serious money for high end speakers. For music, unless you can spend a lot, stick with a 10 inch subwoofer (try the NHT's). Most of the 12 inch models you see on the showroom floor will sound sloppy (unless you have purchased a servo design or other relatively expensive model from an audio specialty shop). If your use is mainly home theater, a 12 inch subwoofer should sound right (for explosions etc). Luckily, the NHT models are excellent in 10 and 12 inch designs. For many other manufacturers, especially the high-volume mass production models, you will find the 10 inch versions to be superior to larger subs rom the same company for critical listening and enjoyment of music. The sloppiness doesn't seem to be a big deal for movies (I know what musical instruments sound like, but explosions don't create any particular expectations with most people). Final note: with so many great concert DVD's coming out, it is worthwhile to purchase truly musical subwoofers. If you still want really impressive movie sound effects in a large room, you can always use two 8 or 10 inch subs rather than one mushy monster.
Excellent Value.......2002-02-05
The NHT Super One makes an excellent value for someone looking for superior sound reproduction but not yet ready to spend thousands on a speaker system. Purchase a pair of these for up front, a pair of super zeros for the rear, and a single for the center channel. Finish off with a subwoofer for a complete surround sound experience that rivals systems costing 3 or 4 times the price.
You will not be dissapointed with this speaker.
Most Bang for the Buck...DD and DTS Super Speakers.......1999-11-11
I have had five of the SuperOne speakers for several years now. Along with my M&K Subwoofer, these speakers are all anyone would ever need for a Home Theater System or just plain listening to any type of music. The Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 soundtracks are awsome to hear at any level. When you crank up the volume (try the opening minutes of Saving Private Ryan on DVD) you can't believe the sound. You start looking for a place to take cover yourself. You won't be dissappointed with the SuperOnes by/buy the pair (2) or by/buy the fives (5). A quality subwoofer is needed however for the very low end of the spectrum.
