Poor quality components.......2005-03-19
I've had nothing but trouble wth this computer. I've had to return it several times to Best Buy (where I bought it) and directly to HP. Neither has been able to fix the latest problems.
The power switch wore out quick. It takes several tries to get it to power up. The USB, serial and power connections on the back loosen up. I loose connections constantly.
They raved about the speaker sysystem in this thing, but it's barely audible. Use headphones instead!
The battery life is rediculously short. I've tried the buit in optimizer and other suggestions of "exercising" the battery, but it won't last 2 hours even when word processing. It won't last long enough to watch half a DVD.
The display still works fine now (the reason I bought this model). I had a flickering problem at first but HP solved that one. HP did fix the problem crashing often too. They alos repaired the doors on the floppy that felloff the first week I owned it.
This unit isn't beat on. I am the sole user of this system and it has been taken VERY good care of. Never dropped. Rarely taken outside my home.
It could be a great system if HP used better connectors and hardware.

First off the first thing I did was put a Gig of RAM in this puppy and now have used it for over a year. Never a problem have I had. I do programming for my job, and Star Wars Galaxies on it with no problems whatsoever. (Galstaph on Corbantis) I have never used a better laptop (for work) and it isn't bad for other things as well. I would suggest this to anyone (who didn't nead POWERFULL graphics).

Display is better then my dell laptop. Resolution up to 1400x1050, my new dell can't go that high. display look sharper. Harddrive slow, put a samsung 80GB 7200rpm drive in run faster can now run video editing tool on this laptop wish it came with dvd burner. can't say how drive work change it to a TOSHIBA DVD-R/RW SD-6112 drive work very good, no overheating or shutting off when rendering videos, can't say the same for my dell which is newer. everything else runs good.

Have problem with the ATI MOBILITY M6 video card HP doesn,t have a driver for this model labtop on there site so computer use to shutdown when playing game or running video editing software even going on the internet.Since I am a computer tech I was looking for the corrected driver for this lapptop found it, but I warn you down use the driver that you get from 3rd party or what the people say on the sites they work but not correctly. will slow down the system and there will be a delay in the video, driver on other site are only design to run with the video cards chipset not with the laptop that why they can only be installed manually. the place you get the corrected driver is from (WWW.HP.COM) THEN PUT IN INSTEAD OF ZE5185 PUT IN XE4500 THEN DOWNLOAD ATI MOBILITY M6 DRIVER FOR WIN XP XE4500 HAVE THE AMOST THE SAME CHIPSET AS THE ZE5185, ZE5170. DRIVER WILL INSTALLED EASY WITHOUT HAVE TO GO TO CONTROL PANEL. YOUR LAPTOP WILL RUN VERY GOOD NO MORE VIDEO DELAYS OR SHUTDOWN. as for the rating gave it a 3 only because hp support is terrable they can't give you help on this problem they make it seem like the problem isn't known, and tell you all kind of other thing. and they didn't even give you the right disks they are for another model. Now that I have the right driver the laptop run great.
This thing needs to quiet down a bit.......2003-10-08
I bought this computer about 2 months ago, it worked great at first, quiet, fast, dependable so it seemed. Now 2 months later the fan wont stop running and its EXTREMELY loud, I tried upgrading the antivirus but everytime I did I had to reboot the system because nothing would work. When I try listening to music it is first low, then loud, then low, even without me touching the volume button. The computer takes a while to start up even with its original start up settings. It hasnt frozen on me yet, but I am expecting it anytime. But the most annoying problem is the fan. Its just very very loud. I try to work at night in my dorm and this thing wakes up my roommate. If you dont mind an extremely loud computer thats kind of hard to upgrade the antivirus, then this is your computer. I guess I have to live with it a while longer, according to Best Buy there is nothing they can do about that.

The computer was a problem from the first time I turned it on. Several video flaws, repeated crashes. The touch pad virtually stopped working after a few weeks. The benchmarks are terrible. The worst value for your money.

Not supported by Windows XP.......2002-03-03
I bought an ES-10 a couple of years ago. It's good at the job, but, when I upgraded to XP it would not work. Olympus say it does not support NT or XP for the ES-10 and has no plans to. I now have to run a dual boot system (XP and ME) just so that I can use this one piece of hardware.
Now that XP has gone to the home market to replace 95, 98, SE and ME etc, Olympus ought to write a driver and not leave it's customer's in the lurch.
Get Those Slides Out of the Shoebox and into the Digital Age.......1999-11-18
I had been looking for a way to take the boxes of slides I shot in my twenties and get them into digital form where I was more likely to actually look at them. And of course I also wanted to share them with the few people on earth who are actually interested in seeing my old slides.
When I looked at dedicated slide scanners like those from Nikon, it quickly became clear that these were professional devices that produced huge images for quality reproduction. They were also on the wrong side of $1000. General purpose flatbed scanners, on the other hand, weren't good enough to create a decent screen or printing image from such a tiny source.
The Olympus ES-10, at $400, is just about right. Not only does it produce good-looking images from slides, it can also accept negative strips like the kind you get back from the processor. From these it can make full-screen positives or larger images for printing with a good-quality inkjet.
The scanner comes in two variation, parallel and SCSI. I chose the SCSI because I figured it was faster and because I already have about three devices trying to share a single parallel port. You need your own SCSI adapter, as none is supplied. Also, the SCSI cable that comes with the scanner is suitable only for a Macintosh. If you are using it with a Windows PC, as I am, you will need to get a cable to match your SCSI card.
The software supplied with the scanner can be run stand-alone, to produce .bmp files (the only kind natively supported) or as a TWAIN device so that you can scan your slides directly into any number of image editors like the Adobe Photo Deluxe 3.0 that comes bundled. The TWAIN solution works out to be more convenient, since you don't end up with .bmp files that you are not likely to use again. Using TWAIN, Photo Deluxe or your own image editor can likely output to .jpg, .gif .tif and many other formats.
The scanner is very easy to set up and use. Easier than a flatbed in many ways. The only additonal consideration is focus, since there is no rigid bed to hold the original in a flat plane.
The TWAIN software lets you make basic resolution, cropping, exposure and color balance adjustments to the preview image. Then you press the scan button and you're done.
All in all, I'm very pleased. The images are clear, and it's good to see them again after all these years.

Better check that partitioning.......2007-08-30
Works perfectly well, no complaints. OK, ONE complaint... I bought this to back up my 40GB laptop hard drive. I was using Windows Backup on XP Pro, and everything started just right and went off like a rocket. Pleased as anything I went to bed and let it finish up on its own. In the morning, I checked the Properties on the backup file, and found it's 4GB in size. WTF??
So I looked at the partitioning on the drive, and found out it is formatted as FAT32. DOH! I'm in the middle of formatting the thing so it can take a single large file now (NTFS) and expect no further problems after that.
Really a good little machine, but formatted by idiots. (Not ME, THEM). :)

This is really a plug and play item. I plugged it into my USB 1.1 port, that's all, no power cord required, and I was ready to read and write files right out of the box. Just make sure you stop it before you turn it off with its own power switch or unplug it from the port. FYI I'm using OS Windows 2K Pro.
People complain about these exterior drives failing, but I have given mine heavy use for about a month, and no problems yet.
I'm looking forward to hooking this baby up to a 2.0 port when I get around to upgrading my three-year old laptop.

I was very hesitant to buy a USB hard drive, after reading so many reviews about very noisy units that did not work as promised, but I wanted a very reliable data backup before installing Windows Service Pack 2.
This unit is very quiet (I keep it in its leather pouch when running, as per the manual), and, with Windows XP, a snap to run; simply plug it into a USB port, and turn it on. Within seconds, it appears as a letter-designated hard drive, and I simply copy and paste any files I want to back up. The disk comes already formatted. As for speed, my first backup of 15GB took about 35 minutes; daily backups usually take about 20 seconds.
The unit arrived missing a minor part (the supplemental power cord); after one e-mail to Pocketec's customer service, the piece was mailed to me within the week. Can't argue with that.
One little hitch; the unit must be deactivated by clicking onto its icon in the toolbar, prior to shutting down, or data may be lost. But still, a lot simpler than messing with 15-30 CD-RW'S. Hands down, I would strongly recommend this item.
If I experience any problems down the road, I'll update this review accordingly.

I bought this as a gift for my seriously tech challenged husband to use at college. Works very well, easy pc set up, very small but completely functional. An exceptional product you would never know it was "reconditioned".
Surprisingly wonderful.......2007-03-10
I bought this product for two reasons: 1. necessity. I needed a voice recorder to record my interviews for my Undergraduate Thesis. 2. It was the cheapest one that had everything I needed (namely a USB connection) and looked decent enough.
I am pleasently surprised at how well this has worked. It takes two AAA batteries to run it. I put in the two batteries that came with the recorder and went to do my first interviews. I'm now 11 interviews in (each being somewhere between 1/2 hour and 1.25 hours) and still on the same batteries!!! And it doesn't look like I'm going to replace them any time soon either. The sound quality is incredible as well. I've been recording on High Quality and have had no problem understanding the recordings later even when the interviewee was mumbling and stuttering. It does a pretty good job of cutting out background noise too. The program that comes with it is very easy to work, which makes for an easier time transcribing.
Overall it was quite a deal considering the price (about $[...]) I certainly recommend this product, it's well worth it.
Very good digital voice recorder.......2006-11-27
It has every thing you need: Nice voice quality, good speaker, nic and earphone entries. It's small, light, good design and PC connection via mini USB. You can have up from 3 hours (best quality) or 8 hours (worst but very acceptable) of recording.
The 4 stars is because data transfer via USB is slow. Even on USB 2.0 connections, it takes 7 minutes to transfer a 25 MB file to the PC (1.5 hours in best quality, wav format) and you depend on the software because you don't see the device in Windows like USB flash memories.

i just got it,and i like what i've seen so far, but i can't find an off button and i can't find anything in the instruction manual on how to turn it on/off. it turns on automatically when you put in batteries. do i have to take out the batteries every time i want to turn it off?

The 38-120mm, 3.1x zoom lens gives you crisp, sharp images across all of its focal lengths. The built-in flash has several programmed modes, including flash-off, auto flash, red-eye reduction, fill-in, night scene, and red-eye reducing night scene so your images are always perfectly exposed. The 120 QD also has an adjustable diopter so you can set it to your personal requirements.

hi, i bought this camera. about 6months ago..
liked the rugged durable style,but is kinda big and bulky.
plus doesn"t have that many fatures.. so i took it back
and bought kodak advantix c-800 zoom..
at last. a small light weight aps camera with every feature u can think possible

i bought this camera about a month ago.. and i liked the style..
but you cant go by that.. it jamed a couple of times..
didnt take all that great of pictures..
and didnt have all the features my new camer has.
like infinityfocus mode,spot focus,portrait,nightview,continus,
and three picture sizes..

the olympus.. accura view.. is one of the best film cameras.
i"ve owed yet!
i bout this camera because of all the nice features..
like the illuminated view finder has a in foucus and out
correction mark.. and ready flash that lighs when the flash is ready
its a nice camera.. don.p
