Great Buy!.......2007-02-15

This is a great running machine! I've had mine for about a year and a half and it runs perfectly.I added some meory and this became a great all around computer, with gaming too. Would be a very nice family computer. I recently install windows Vista Ultimate and it runs fine on here, no problem upgrading or anything. Vista doesn't come with drivers for the sound card, but with windows update it found them and installed them automaticlly. Great buy , very very cheap!

HP support should be called non-support. I have bought a lot of HP products in the past but have always been lucky enough to have them all hold up through the warranty period until now. Bought a Pavilion Media Center PC with lightscribe and less than 5 months later the lightscribe dvd died. Do the get me a replacement or just a run around? You got it....the run around. I will never and I advise everyone else not to buy from HP until they can prove to stand by their warranties.

Since this is the only to right my review i bought my computer from bestbuy and it came with a bungle( nvidia geforce 7800 GT 256,Logitech G15 keyboard,Logitech mx518 mouse,and logitech speakers 5.1)and was cool for a while but i did love the keyboard and also had this computer for 10 months in planing to buy a new motherboard,new processer,and DDR2 1gb ram for windows vista and stuff but over the stuff i got it great and i know half about computers (still learning)so i give this computer a 4 star rateing. :)

The HP a1250n is, without a doubt, the worst computer system I have ever experienced. I have used a wide variety of computers and I can honestly say that this HP is absolutely the most problematic.
Bottom line = the HP a1250n system, its components, and its software DO NOT WORK together. There is nothing good to say about this system.
The dual processor, in itself, should be a powerful feature, but not if the rest of the computer cannot support it. Unfortunately, this is the case with the HP a1250n. Add to the mix, the excessive trial software and unnecessary programs that HP installs on its systems, and the HP a1250n is already slowed right out of the box. Also, the LightScribe drive could be very cool, but is rendered nearly useless on this system, since 9 out of 10 times, the drive cannot recognize a loaded CD/DVD (even when it is a LightScribe-specific CD/DVD). In addition, the Sonic software installed for the LightScribe drive doesn't work well with the LightScribe and often results in random error messages. For general work, such as emails, internet, text documents, etc., the HP a1250n runs slightly faster (but not significantly) compared with my 5-year-old system. However, when using powerful programs with larger files, such as movie-making and graphic editing software, the system runs slowly and often locks-up, requiring reboots.
The HP a1250n is a total disappointment and waste of money. I will never buy a HP computer again.

Great Buy.......2005-11-27

I've had this computer for a week. Runs great and very silent. AMD athlon dual core is VERY good. It is a lot better than the newer Pent D processor because it is silent, fast, and DOES NOT heat up. If you have a Pent D, you know that it is loud. I don't even hear my computer when it's on that's how smooth it runs. Con about this computer is a decent graphic card. I had to buy a new one, but once you have a good graphic card it is very good.

Bought this for my father. He's hard of hearing and was driving my mother crazy by turning the TV volume up all day long. Bought/built this to hook up to audio out on the TV and used a 25 foot cord to set him up with headphones. He used a cordless headset before this. He didn't like having to buy batteries for the headset continually. Yes, he's 75 years old, he got to complain about something. This way, no batteries. Now he's gotta find something else to complain about.

This is a very wide bandwidth amp and should be capable of driving just about anything you have.

What I cannot understand is the way they implemented the volume controls. Not only are they separate, which means you have to readjust the balance every time you adjust the volume, but they used linear (rather than audio taper) pots with the left on the right and the right on the left. I can see doing that if you are putting a quick prototype together out of spare parts, but if you can order parts or get to a good electronics store there is no need and if you are selling it as a commercial product there is no excuse.

I replaced their volume controls with a conductive plastic dual gang 10k audio taper for volume and a dual 5k linear taper in series on the signal side for fine balance adjust. They don't fit in the circuit board so the wiring inside isn't pretty, but it's much more convenient to use. I also bridged the switch for the sibilance filter with resistors to eliminate the ear splitting click the first time it is engaged. Anything around 3 mega ohm or above should work. That filter comes in very handy with my Beyerdynamics DT-770's which have enough high end definition to cause physical pain when listening to low quality streaming audio where the high end is all compression defects.

Good amp for a good price........2006-03-08

This kit provides quality components and clear detailed instructions. Anyone who can solder should be able to assemble it in under an hour. The result is a quality amplifier for a great price.

Like another reviewer, I am dismayed by the fact I have to remove two over-long screws, thus opening the amplifier case, to change the battery. As a result, I will rarely, if ever, run the amp on battery power. It is currently working great on a cheapo variable voltage "universal" wall-wart. I expect it will always run this way.

This amp connects a Bose Wave Radio / CD to Sony MDR-V6 pro headphones. My only complaint is that the amp volume must be run at or near minimum to prevent brain damage. The sound is clear, crisp, and big. No complaints at all on the function of this amp.

Buy this amp. The assembly is piece-of-cake easy with no surprises or tricky operations. Great instructions including the design theory for hobbyists. The amp produces great sound and has good usability as far as control function and placement. And the price can't be beat.

I use this amplifier with Grundig S350 radio(line output) and Sennheiser HD280 headphone. They form a great music system; it seems to me that all of the three devices have quite a flat response.
Before you use it, you hvae to spend about an hour putting the components in the PCB and solding them. It took 20-30 hours to burn in. One thing I feel uncomfortable about is it is in lack of a battery compartment; if you want to install a 9v battery you have to unsrew two long screws and open the cover.

I have owned this system for about 2 years. It is by far the best and easy system to use and operate that I have ever owned. Sorry, but I came upon one which started out broken - not mine, but a client's. Regardless of how it broke (I don't know), it's not worth fixing simply because the repair cost is likely to eclipse the replacement cost. It should either have been 1) designed to not fail or 2) designed to inhibit chances of breakage.

Throwaway items are no longer acceptable in our current business or consumer environments. Therefore, this one gets a wholehearted "thumbs down."
