The Basics

Hard Drive: The very roomy 200 GB Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage space, perfect for storing a vast multimedia collection or for editing digital video. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.

Screen, Graphics and Sound
Video is powered by the ATI Radeon XPress 200 IGP video/graphics card, which delivers good, though not high-end, 3D graphics. It delivers up to 128 MB of video RAM shared with the system RAM. ATI's HyperMemory technology allows the chipset to run in either Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) mode or with dedicated frame buffer memory to enhance graphics performance. I held out buying a new computer for a while. I had last purchased an HP Pavilion and had good success but that was 7+ years ago (yes, I get my money's worth). My wife spotted this little guy and it was love at first sight.

I believe it is essentially a laptop packaged as a super-small desk tower; so small it sits beside the flat panel monitor and provides plenty of desk room to spare.

I recently moved into a professional D-SLR and use loads of disk space. This not only is fast at 1.7Gh but has a huge hard drive of 240Gb. The front CF I/II card reader and the front USB means I don't have to monkey around in the back or with add-on devices to read/write to my cards or iPod. There are 4 USB slots on the back as well as a full compliment of speaker hook-up options. The 10/100 Ethernet is included and installed. Essentially this is a "set it and forget it" home appliance.

I have been struck by the quietness of this unit - no fan is necessary apparantly due to the fact that it runs the Centrino processor; known for it's low power consumption and heat generation. This is a great improvement over the 747-like sounds of the fan equipped full size towers. This also means no or little dust is kicked or sucked up by the processor cooling system.

If you are hunting for a fast, quiet, energy saving desktop that has the HP name on it, this is the one. I did find that the prices are all over the map so it will pay to shop for rebates.

good pc .......2006-02-23

I like the machine, but I don't like the win XP Media edition. I removed 20 or 30 games from the hard drive. I created the CD Rom installation CD's and tested them by reinstalling the operating system. I had to reinsert several of the CD's two or three times before they would read correctly. I like the ability to buy just the PC, keyboard, and mouse. My monitor, printer, and speakers that I already had were fine for this system.

PNY CDR's: They improve each time I buy a spindle, which pleases everyone! Last improvement I saw was the price, and a better scratch resistant surface, which people want! Sometimes you see CDR's for sale, and they are brands you have never heard of. This was the case when I first purchased PNY CDR's. I had no clue who PNY was. After the first 50 CD's were created, I found that none of the cds were bad. The only errors I had came from my own computer. PNY is a good company to buy products from. An OK cd player with a crappy sound.......2006-11-07

This mp3-cd player is great...the only thing is that this piece of crap wont produce a great sound...

For example: if you set the "BASS" to off..and crunk up the music...even tho the BASS is set to off...it still will disort...hopefully they change this with 2005 and 2006 products.

I still own this thing...I dont get why it wont play MP3 cd's in some of the reviews but it does in mines.

For now I own Video IPOD, This CRAP, and in my opinion the best player with a good price, D-NF420>>>I think thats the best MP3-CD alive today since it got 3 sets of BASS, BASS 1,2,3 plus it has an "EQUALIZER", so that you control high,low,and mids.

Im sure that the SONY players now are bringing all this features that the D-NF420 has...

Very Dissapointing ( With Sony I should have known better!).......2005-10-05

Sony claims that the player plays MP3's. IT DOES NOT PLAY MP3', it plays atracs!! a previous review claimed that it did play MP3's,but it didn't play mine. The player would read session 2 and then shut down. Look at the other reviews and you will see the same thing. I took the same Mp3 that the sony player would not play and I put it in some cheap no name $30.00 player. Guess what? It played! It you buy this be prepared to convert all of your songs into atrac format with the software. The software is lame too. When writing CDR's to atrac format there were several errors in the process. It would get down to a certain trac and then it would give me an error message. Well, so much for putting those songs with error messages on an atrac. Another Fatal Flaw of the Atrac, It won't play on any other MP3 players!! One you have an Atrac you better have a Sony player handy. Great way to try to monopolize the market! If you chose not to buy a sony for your next player, guess what?. All the Atracs you burned and worthless,garbage,junk!! Maybe your thinking Well I could put it in my computer and download the files on the Atrac. Nope! The computer doesn't recognize it. Why? It is not an Mp3;It is Sony's own special format that is recognized by no one else. Some upsides are the radio and the ability to listen to TV on it. This review is a warning to anyone who considers buying this!

Good, but only for a while.......2005-08-30

When I got this player I was really pleased. Then when I decided to burn an MP3 cd, I didn't realize that it didn't play WMA files so half the cd was useless. After this I changed most of my music files to MP3 and it worked fine. But the loading time took forever, it probably took 3 minutes for the first song to even start playing and it made an awful amount of noise. Even when playing and changing songs on a normal cd it made noise. Something else which was very annoying is that it sometimes just turned off all of a sudded for no apparent reason, which meant I had to reset the sound, bass, etc. This occured rarely at first but soon it began happening every few times I used it. It saved my spot on the cd when I turned it off, so that was helpful. I was content with it, since it still worked and didn't give me too many problems. One day though, it didn't work when I put a cd in. After studying it I figured out the part which spins the cd broke. Everything else on the player worked fine and it didn't seem to realize the problem so it just kept eating my batteries and not playing cds. It would cost to much to fix, so I am going to buy a new one. I have always used sonys and my old one which is about 6 years old works perfectly to this day. Overall it is good in its features, but the durability and quality needs to be improved for it to last and not break so easily.

Bang For Buck..........2005-04-01

i got this player 2 years back from singapore where its sold as DNE-611 and i have no regrets at all,this player simply rocks.i have used the player extesively for jogging and have not had any problems with song skipping and not to mention the radio reception which is pretty good.This player is top notch as far as build Quality goes and would recommend this player.I dont use the atrac format although its a superior format and saves space,I'd rather burm my mp3 cds than convert them to atrac and use them...I saw a reviewer saying that he is reducing the rating by one star as its made in malaysia,this is stupid coz sony manufactures in malaysia and so does AMD,Intel and the most electronics manufacturers...

Good CD Player, But Has Some Flaws.......2005-01-07

I recommend this cd player. One thing that irritates me is when I burn an MP3 cd, it ocassionaly comes up with the song ID and then doesn't play it. It then skips to the next song. Another thing that irritates me is when I place an MP3 disc into the cd player and close the lid, it takes forever to load the disc, and it makes a lot of noise while it's doing it.
