Amazon.com Product Description
The HP Media Center PC m390b is a full-fledged desktop PC--but it's also a television, a DVD player, an FM and Internet radio, and a personal video recorder. It's powered by the Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 operating system (compatible with cable, digital cable, satellite TV, and antenna), and it features a 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 processor (with Hyper Threading technology), 200 GB hard drive, and 512 MB of installed memory.
The Basics
- Hard Drive: Though it's not the largest on the market, the massive 200 GB Ultra IDE hard drive (7200 RPM) offers a wealth of storage for all your media storage--from digital audio to TV programs. This hard drive will store approximately 110 hours of archived video.
- Processor: The 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 processor with Hyper-Threading technology (which allows a single CPU system to behave in some aspects like a dual-CPU system--see more in Tech Talk section below) is one of the fastest processors currently available on the market.
- Memory: The m390b comes with a 512 MB built-in memory (2 x 256 MB DDR SDRAM)--a decent amount for starters, but you'll want to add more to take full advantage of the capabilities of Windows Media Center. The motherboard has four memory sockets for a maximum memory expansion of 4 GB.
- CD/DVD Drive: It is equipped with a DVD-ROM with 16x speed for movie playback and a 4x DVD+R/W writer (the DVD+RW format is one of two formats for rewriteable DVDs).
- Keyboard & Mouse: The m390b comes with HP's premium wireless optical scrolling mouse and wireless keyboard, as well as a remote control.
Sound and Graphics
The m390b's video is powered by a 128 MB, 8x AGP GeForce FX 5600 Ultra video/graphics card, which has strong 3-D performance, dual-display capability--supporting one analog (VGA) and one digital (DVI) connection--and TV-out capability (enabling to display the PC on your Television via S-Video).
Sound is delivered via a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 audio card, which delivers high-quality 6.1 channels of digital surround sound (or 5.1 channels of analog-out surround sound). It also supports DVD-Audio, a super-high-fidelity audio format compatible with DVDs.
The m390b comes with a Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speaker system (200 watt, THX) with one subwoofer and two satellite speakers.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
The m390b has three PCI expansion slots (two available), one AGP (accelerated graphics port) slot and the following external ports:
- 6 USB 2.0 ports (2 in front, 4 in rear) for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
- 2 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link; 1 in front and 1 in back) ports for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals
- 1 parallel port for connecting older printers and scanners
- 2 PS/2 ports for connecting keyboards and mice
- 7-in-1 memory card reader (divided into two slots) that is compatible with CompactFlash, MicroDrive, Memory Stick (and Memory Stick Pro), MultiMediaCard (MMC), Secure Digital (SD) and Smaredia cards.
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.92) and an on-board RealTek 8101L 10/100 Ethernet port (for connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Preloaded System and Software
The pre-installed Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 is essentially Windows XP Professional Edition with a variety of tools to help you to create, organize, and enjoy digital media ranging from music to home movies to photo slide shows. Additionally, it enables you to control your television with the included remote and record and pause programs (much like a DVR--or digital video recorder--such as Tivo or ReplayTV). You can even pause or rewind (up to 7 seconds) FM radio broadcasts.
Other software includes Microsoft Works 7.0 (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents), Microsoft Money 2003, Microsoft Encarta Online Encyclopedia Deluxe (with one-year trial subscription), Intuit Quicken Financial Center, Norton Antivirus 2003 (with 60 days of complimentary live updates), Adobe Acrobat Reader, RecordNow (for creating your own music or data CDs), MusicMatch Jukebox, Arcsoft ShowBiz DVD (for editing digital video), RealOne Player, and InterVideo WinDVD SE (for playing DVD movies). It also includes three months of AOL dial-up service.
What's in the Box
This package includes the HP Media Center PC m390b, remote control, wireless keyboard and mouse, and speakers.
Tech Talk
Hyper-Threading: A Hyper-Threading processor helps a PC to run multiple demanding applications at the same time. This technology enables the processor to execute two threads (a part of a program) in parallel, boosting performance during key high-drain procedures. This results in more efficient software performance (such as faster reaction times in gaming applications) and enhanced multitasking.
More About Microsoft Windows XP Media Center
What sets this PC apart is that it is powered by Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004, which offers the features, reliability, and power of Windows XP Professional, plus advanced digital entertainment capabilities. The Media Center interface offers you more types of entertainment to enjoy: TV, Personal Video Recording (PVR), Movies, Music, Photos, Videos, Radio, and DVD. Use the remote control to enjoy from anywhere in your room.

Customer Reviews:
Why do I do this to myself!.......2004-04-01
Found what I thought to be a good deal online for a home PC... till I had to deal with HP tech support. I won't get into all the details... But I do buy several PCs a year for my business & dumped both Compaq & HP, due to their poor support, in favor of Dell years ago (evidently when two companies w/poor support merge the service gets even worse!). Let me just say this, HP is fantastic on their printer and scanner support. They seem to continually update drivers for new operating systems and while under warranty have fixed the very few problems I have had. On their PCs arrrrggghh it's like the PC division is the evil twin of the printer division! Tech support and warranty service is aggravating & I know from experience you will NEVER find updated drivers when the time comes to change your OS. It's no wonder that HP has given away their market share to Dell and Gateway .. when you make trash and don't support it that will happen. I guess every few years I need to relearn this lesson ...
Good, but definately not the best.......2004-01-06
To the user reviewing this before me. This computer is by far not the best. It's GeForce FX5600 is definately a disappointment, a Radeon 9800 Xt/Pro or a GeForce FX5950 Ultra would make it alot better. 200 GB drive is nice, but I would replace it with 2 10,000 RPM WD Raptors in a Raid Array. 512 MB of SD RAM? What were they thinking? Clearly Double Data Rate memory is better, so why even bother with the Synchronous RAM, oh well. Good computer with the software bundles, but could use some help and fine tuning.
Good for the average gamer or video editor, but by no means a dream machine for a hardcore gamer.
BEST COMPUTER EVER!.......2003-12-30
THIS IS THE BESt COMPUTER ANYWERE! This is perfect for anyone who is into gaming, editing, music, etc. The tv out function and capture drive are extremely helpful. Automatically plays videos on your tv enev wen the video isnt maximized. The media center software is the best of the best. With the movie link, cable guide, and being abble to access your music, videos and pictures, all throught the media center, it cant get any better!
This is the perfect computer

Customer Reviews:
Not bad while it lasted........2003-09-13
The camera started showing problems two weeks into use. The winding mechanism would not rewind 36 exp rolls, then 24 exp rolls, then it wouldn't wind the film past the 4th or 5th exp on a fresh roll, and at the end, it wouldn't even spool up a fresh roll.
It took pretty good pictures, I would say, but I'm not experienced at judging pictures. They were in focus and the exposure times got the balance between light and dark right. The film winding mechanism was a little loud for my taste.
On the up side, because of its almost entirely plastic construction (I think the lens mount is plastic as well) the camera was light and easy to carry. On the down side, plastic obviously breaks quicker than metal. The auto-focus was pretty quick and if you understood where to point the lens, it was also correct.
At the end of the day, for an amateur SLR that cost around a quarter of a thousand (including lens kit and bag), it's absolutely unacceptable that it should break so quickly. Pentax had better rethink their strategy.

Product Description
Panasonic - a name that is synonymous with innovation and quality - leads the revolution in cordless phone technology to provide outstanding performance, convenience, and style. When it comes to your communication needs, Panasonic is dedicated to creating a phone that makes communicating easier. The KX-TC1801 cordless phone utilizes Digital Spread Spectrum technology to provide two important benefits for your home or home office: enhanced range and security. This phone transmits over the entire 900 MHz bandwidth, constantly changing frequencies to boost calling range, keeps your conversations clear and makes them very difficult for outside parties to monitor. You don't have to fumble in the dark any more. The lighted handset keypad allows for easy dialing in darkened rooms. The KX-TC1801 is also equipped with a quick charging battery system.
Amazon.com Product Description
The Panasonic KXTC1801B spread spectrum cordless phone features digital spread spectrum (DSS) technology. The DSS uses the entire bandwidth of the 900 MHz band, providing greater output power and boosting range, and making it extremely difficult for others to eavesdrop on your conversations. The KCTC1801B also lets you store up to 10 frequently called phone numbers for quick and easy dialing.
While many cordless phones require an overnight charging period, the KXTC1801B fully recharges its battery in just six hours thanks to the Ultra Charge battery system. The handset, which can be placed in the base with the keypad facing up or down, has a three-level volume control, belt clip, and headset jack. Plus, the lighted handset keypad makes it easy to dial numbers in darkened rooms.
The Panasonic KXTC1801B spread spectrum cordless phone comes with a one-year limited warranty on parts and labor.
Customer Reviews:
What a step up from th cheap analogs.......2001-03-12
I have been the historical victim of over priced "neat looking" cordless phones that would not let me roam more than 8 ft from the base when my computer was on. My whole world changed when this phone ended up in my lap thanks to my engineering brother who was sick of me putting down the phone 20 times during a long distance call to go get something even though I was on a crdless phone. With this PANASONIC DSS phone, I am not only free to move around my apt, and my apt building but I can also roam about 2/3 of a block away in incredibly dense population without loosing the person on the other end. The sound, compared to everything else I was using, is clear, although it is probably not as wonderful as a land line but is that a big surprise? I think it is worth every penny. I am replacing all the phones at my folks place with this one-gigarange is overated.
Disappointing.......2000-11-19
Well, like all other 900mhz DSS phones I've heard, this one has poor sound quality (I had reason to hope since I own one of Panasonic's excellent 900mhz analog phones). The sidetone isn't as bad as what I've heard in other 900 DSS phones, but it's still there and the sound isn't close to analog. I called my wife as a test, and she said it sound like I was talking in a box. Alas, for those of you wanting a phone with digital security that sounds good, I have no answer. The Panasonic 2.4gig phones sound good, but are apparently not fully secure as they transmit partially in analog... sigh.
Great "no frills" phone.......2000-10-11
I've had this phone for about two weeks now, and so far, I love it. I've had cordless phones in the past with lots of extras like dual keypads and speaker-phones and I never used these features. I don't use caller ID and I have a perfectly good answering machine. All I wanted was a good quality cordless phone that couldn't be easily over heard by neighbors baby monitors. I got just that. This phone has incredible range, excelent sound quality, and great battery life. The DSS gives us peace of mind for security too. The only fault I can find with this phone is the speaker hole for listening. It's very small and is located high up on the handset. Beacause of this, it's easy to let the phone "ride up" while you're talking and it sounds as if the volume is dropping off. Just pay attention to how you hold this phone and you'll be very happy with it!

Amazon.com Product Description
This stylish, slim RCA DVD player is sure to turn heads. The sleek, black-and-silver design alone makes it an accent piece in any environment. But the player offers not only style, but an array of cutting-edge features like progressive-scan technology for use with high-definition and HD-ready TVs, Digital PhotoView, MP3 music file decoding, and compatibility with just about every recordable DVD format, from DVD-R to DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW.
Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DRC230N stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.
A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. A 96 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter ensures optimum decoding of all disc formats.
If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: Virtual Surround simulates surround sound through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on your TV). Other features include parental lock, Scene Again (one-button 10-second instant replay), bookmarking (up to 12 bookmarks per disc), and resume play (handy when you need to stop playback and pick up, at a later point, exactly where you left off).
What's in the Box
DVD player, remote control (model RCR311DA1), remote batteries, user's manual, and a stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable.

BigSteeler.......2006-01-01
I bought this Dvd player 2 years ago at Walmart for under 60 bucks, and it has performed fine. I have not had a minute worth of problems. Sometimes we get un-lucky and purchase a bad product. That's the way it goes sometime, but it does not make that particular product a bad buy.
Great, if you arn't fond of watching the movies you buy!.......2004-08-20
This DVD player played ok the first few times i used it, but then it wouldn't really work! My DVD's would randomly pause, and play like in a slow motion! It'd take hours to watch 20 minutes. No matter how much i cleaned the DVD's or the player itself!
One day i rented "Gothika" and tried to play it, but it wouldn't play. It said it was incompatible on my player! That was roughly 2 months ago, ever since that day it will randomly tell me that my discs are incompatible, even though i've played them without a problem before! Yesterday i bought "The Haunting", and tried to play it, and it said again, that it was incompatible! So i made a connection that "Dreamworks" films do not work in this DVD player! And i'd like to know why. It's very very odd...
My advice, save your money! This DVD player is a rip off, and a horrible player!!!

Amazon.com Review
This home-theater-ready VCR satisfies with its superior hi-fi stereo sound and Super VHS (S-VHS) video quality, as well as convenience features such as VCR Plus+ GOLD, Commercial Advance, and Movie Advance. This mid-priced VCR will appeal to home theater enthusiasts who are concerned about the space and size of their components. The Panasonic PV-S9670 is about the same width as standard audio components so it fits in with the typical home-theater system.
This unit contains VCR Plus+ GOLD, which makes recording your favorite TV shows fairly simple. The technology works with broadcast, cable, and digital satellite systems and operates in conjunction with PlusCode numbers that are published in newspaper TV listings throughout the country. To record a program, enter in the PlusCode number via your remote control and the VCR timer is set.
Another nice feature is Commercial Advance, which detects and marks the beginning and end points of commercials on your tape for recordings over 15 minutes in length. When you play back a Commercial Advance marked tape, the PV-S9670 automatically advances through taped commercial segments at high speed.
This VCR also allows you to customize your channel captions so you can better identify which channel you are watching. For example, you can set the PV-S9670 to display text reading "CNN" or "ESPN" on your TV screen when you tune in to those channels.
Spatializer audio processor technology further enhances the hi-fi stereo sound on this unit by creating a surround-sound effect using only two speakers. In addition, the PV-S9670 uses the S-VHS format, an upgrade to video picture quality over standard VHS players. S-VHS provides over 400 lines of resolution compared to 240 lines in VHS.
With such an abundance of advanced features, we were impressed with the flexibility and affordability of this home-theater-quality VCR.
Pros:
- Plays and records in high quality S-VHS format
- Convenience features (VCR Plus+ GOLD, Commercial Advance, Movie Advance)
- Compact design fits into most home-theater systems
Customer Reviews:
Great value for S-VHS.......1999-11-27
This VCR is a great addition to my DSS receiver/27inch TV. I'm confused by Dr. Hoffman's review, since the Panasonic S9670 offers two S-Video connections, which allows you to hook up a satellite receiver or DVD player to the VCR and also to connect the VCR with a TV which has a s-video input. The one thing that could be improved would be the remote, which I find neither ergonomic nor easy to use. I agree with the other reviewers that the commercial advance feature is great. The VCR+ Plus/GOLD feature has been disappointing, however, since my DirectTV sattelite channels still haven't been recognized by the VCR (a process that is supposed to be done automatically, but it's been unsuccesful so far), so plugging in the VCR+Plus code is useless. I can't comment on reliability since I've only had it two months. The front RCA/Video outputs are easily accessible, but aesthetically they're too prominently displayed. One other quirk--when the VCR is programmed to look for something (memorizing channels, finding the correct time automatically, etc.) the front display reads ALL SET when in fact it isn't. Finally, the VCR has an annoying habit of skipping two to three seconds ahead from play-stop-play, so you have to rewind a bit after stopping to catch all the dialog. Still, a very good VCR overall.
Great value for the price.......1999-11-06
Very good picture quality and the Commercial Advance is just too cool. If it only had S-Vidio connections it would be perfect but, for the price, you can't beat it.
A nice, inexpensive intro to SVHS.......1999-08-18
Wow, cheap for the features. I've had no problems at all with this VCR, and it's one of the easier ones to program. It even sets the clock automatically (well, I guess all of them do that now). If you want the higher-rez picture of SVHS at a pretty low price, this ain't a bad choice.

I was looking for some CD-R and came across many that look the same and many that offer the same thing. But the thing that made this one stand out was you get 110 of them. All of the other one's had 100 for the same price. So why get 100 when you can get 110 for one low price!
