Customer Reviews:
Trade your Skillet in for the z557!!!.......2006-01-05
I purchased the z557 with dual 300GB hard drives, one of which is removable, 1GB RAM, and a 3.0GHz Hyper-Thread Intel P4 Processor. It is a beautiful AV component to behold and is a big departure from what the other PC Manufacturers are trying to pass off in your Living or Family Room. The GUI is simple and set-up was easy. The Wireless Keyboard worked fine for me once I figured out the buttons.
I quickly integrated it into my tecStream 'whole-house' Digital Entertainment network so that I can play the AV content on any networked TV or Speakers in my home. See this incredible product at www.tecstream.com .
I followed the recommended spacing with 4" rear, 2" above, and 1" on the sides, but this unit heats up like a Skillet and I was afraid that it might catch fire. It really gets that hot! HP Service checked it out and verified what I had observed saying that it was within tolerance. Bah! Heat is the destroyer of electronics and they offered to refund 80% of my purchase price, though I had only purchased it a month before sending it in. HP is the name that I have always counted on for great support after the sale and I appreciated their offer under the circumstances. Still, when the fans turns on, the z557 is basically useless since it drowns out the sound at normal levels with jet-engine like noise levels. This is a beautiful design, but you will want to wait until they get the excessive heating issue worked out or else the lifespan of your investment will be dramatically shortened! I understand that this may be the case with the z558 after speaking with someone at HP. I guess that I should have waited, but the Refurb deal was too good to pass up, or so I thought.
Slick Looking - Components are older technology - Keyboard sucks!.......2005-12-25
Picked one of these up the other day, mostly for the slick design and for the wireless keyboard with trackball type mouse controller. But that's all it has, is looks...
After using the keyboard, it quickly became tedious to use, since not only are the keys hard to push down, they are in a tight proximity of each other and not in the usual places, and the wireless is hit and miss, possibly because it runs at only 49MHz frequency. It will miss keys here and there, so you have to type very slooow, and check your work very often, and with passwords where you can't see what you are typing, good luck! It quickly becomes a tire... There is no number pad and the trackball mouse is skippy and lacks a scroll feature...
The processor is 2 "generations" older than the current dual core intel processors and the RAM is standard DDR instead of DDR2...
Unless HP updates the components and the keyboard, this is a terrible value and a POS.

Amazon.com Product Description
The Pioneer DVR-RT300-S DVD Recorder and VCR Combo offers a space-saving combination of equally well-endowed technologies. This unit lets you enjoy your existing collection of VHS tapes and still move into the world of DVDs and DVRs.
Perhaps the most distinguishing of its high-end feature set is the unit's recording capabilities. You can record VHS to DVD, or DVD to VHS. This cross-recording offers a flexibility few others do. You can also play WMA and MP3 files; and view JPEGs.
The DVD player features progressive scan output. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
The tape player sports a HiFi 4-head VCR that delivers high quality video and stereo audio. VCR Plus ensures you see the best picture quality possible.
A host of output choices mean you can use whichever connection is most convenient or highest-quality. There's the standard composite A/V (RCA) jacks in both the front and rear. S-Video and component video output connect higher-end TVs, and digital audio output lets you send audio to most any home theater system.
The DVR-RT300-S is a great hybrid at an even more stellar price. This unit lets you play the old-school tapes and still enjoy the newest DVD technology.
Customer Reviews:
Worst electronics product I have ever owned.......2006-08-06
This item has been nothing but trouble. The operation is overly complex. To use the recorder you must constantly refer to the manual. The manual is poorly written, if you follow the manual's procedure for VCR timer recording it will not work, as they left out a critical extra step.
I am in the process of boxing it up to send back to Pioneer after 7 months. One reason is that has never been able to dub from tape to DVD. The second reason is that it died earlier this weak. The video output is pure static in both DVD and VCR modes.
Does what it's supposed to.......2006-03-15
This is the only DVD recorder I've ever owned, so I have nothing to compare it to. However, I'm an stereo equipment guru and a recording studio engineer, so I have a good grasp of electronics.
This unit works great, and does exactly what it's supposed to. I've been very pleased with the video and audio quality (and I'm very picky). The only thing that's bothersome is the amount of time it takes from when you insert a disc to when it's ready to record or perform other operations. Also, you always have to press the "DVD/VCR" button on the remote to get a picture on your screen. If you don't do this, you'll keep getting the regular TV station broadcast. This button is not on the player itself, so it makes me scared that the remote will break and I won't be able to use the DVD player anymore!
All in all a good value and I've been very happy with it.
good for the money and for a pioneer.......2005-09-29
I'm still new at using this item but so far i'm happy with it.It is what i expected from a Pioneer brand. It has a good picture, but my Pioneer dvd 343 player in my opinion has a better picture quality.Otherwise im happy with this DVR RT 300s combo.I'm pretty much set in my ways i use only Pioneer brand equipment.
Get something with multi media writing formats.......2005-08-16
I bought this unit without checking what media it accepts. It only writes to DVD-R/DVD-RW. It just so happen that my house is full of DVD+R...so i had to go purchase it. Then I set it up to my set top box and for some reason I couldn't get it to record. It might be user error, but it was all very confusing, so I ended up returning the unit.

Remote control frequency is the same as satellite receiver; Pioneer will not support this problem, sorry thank you for shopping.

Doesn't take up a lot of space!.......2001-03-19
I wanted to upgrade from a 15" to a 17" monitor however I have a really small desk and most of the standard 17" monitors would be too big. I couldn't afford a flat screen so this Philips 17" monitor is perfect. It doesn't take up a lot of space and it didn't cost a lot either. Amazon customer support people answered all my questions too!

Uncomplicated elegance.......2000-12-21
With sever winter around the corner, you dont want to be caught in a storm...stay informed... this RCA radio can be a life saver. Tune into weather reports and bulletins, and at other times, listen to "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" for the hundredth time this week!
The headphones fit snugly, and the static is surprisingly low for a radio that (is so inexpensive)! It is extremely easy to switch between the modes, and you dont need to be ambidextrous like me to do that. Use either hand, its a snap!
Also makes a nice surprise gift for that person "who has everything". Nothing can kill the radio star!
Electronics wiz.......2000-07-24
I think that the RCA RP1610 Portable AM/FM radio with Headphones is a reasonably good machine. The sound comes in nice and clear, and it is good for running, but the way it is constructed, it seems to be made out of cheep material. Besides that though, it is a pretty good personal radio.

It has all the functions and features you need at an affordable price! Strong Velcro strip hold the wheel and pedals in place Requires 4 AA Batteries
Customer Reviews:
Since someone else might be wondering..........2005-03-14
For ease of reading, I'll be concise. I personally like this wheel quite a bit, but it did take some getting used to. The most obvious first thing is the feedback of the wheel. Rather than use an auto-centering device, this wheel has resistance, much like a small car with no power steering. It can seem stiff at first, but seems to loosen up a bit after some use. It's a little different approach than many others take, but actually works well once you get the hang of it. The wireless is stable, but I did get interference at one point (which I actually found hilarious...just the one time was not enough for it to become a nuisance). Ergonomically, the wheel itself feels good, with very aggressive suction mounting for tabletop use and a decent enough set of dimensions for laptop use. Only gripe here is that the torque to operate the wheel is enough to knock it off my lap when using one hand on the wheel and one on the shifter. Tabletop is much nicer. Speaking of the shifter, a seperate unit or moving it back and to the right a bit would help realism immensly. It's a touch awkward, and for that matter, could use a little more resistance. Now for the pedals. As far as feel goes, they could be a touch larger and further apart. When is someone (to my knowledge, nobody has addressed this) going to have an appropriate resistance built into the brake pedals? This has plagued every racing wheel I have encountered. Also, it took me awhile to figure out that the pedals should not be touched when turning on the wheel AND the xbox. It got to the point that I had to email pelican support to see if there was a problem with the throttle pedal potentiometer or the mechanical portion of the control (everything checked out after some thorough testing of pedal travel, voltage sweep, etc. Yes I went through this much trouble). After getting the startup procedure down and getting comfortable with the controller itself, I was able to match at very least and for the most part exceed my performances in my collection of racing games of the xbox. Now that the meat and potatoes is served, here comes the dessert. This thing is pretty nifty in the sense of bells and whistles. For instance, being wireless, it runs on batteries (not included). So instead of the usual low battery light they incorporated a small 'fuel' gauge into the control. Nifty. The control itself has a fixed button map, but with the exception of the right analog stick everything is present and in useful positions. For the record, as well, the button map basically mimics most default controller settings, and usually only minor tweaks are necessary. One thing they threw into the mix that is actually very helpful is the inclusion of a left analog stick in the frame of the steering wheel. This can be used back and forth with the wheel (they both do the same job), but not at the same time, thanks to an internal software delay that detects the switch from stick to wheel and vice versa. Due to this the D-pad is located down on the base, as it is rarely needed anyway. Construction is sound, which I can say comfortably as I have already opened the unit to investigate the possibility of adding springs to the shifter and pedals (looks very possible, by the way). Overall I am very happy with this product, although the learning curve to get the most out of it might be a bit much for people with short attention spans, which basically means that younger players may not have a very good time with this one. Overall I am happy with my purchase, as I have been with other products from pelican. So much for being concise.

Product Description
It's a digital world. A world where sound surrounds you and pictures dazzle the imagination. It's a world where the excitement of the movies is captured and brought to life on a simple five-inch disc - the size of a CD. Welcome to the incredible world of DVD. As a leader in digital technology, Panasonic made possible and forever changed the face of home theatre. Come and experience the ultimate in home theatre entertainment as Panasonic knows it.
Amazon.com Product Description
The Double Feature PV-D4753S integrates a high-quality, progressive-scan DVD player and four-head, hi-fi VCR into a slim and handsomely designed package. Format compatibility extends from DVDs, videocassettes, and CDs to audiophile-quality DVD-Audio discs, recordable audio CDs, and DVD-R video discs.
Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the PV-D4753S stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Six-channel DVD-Audio recreates the delicate nuances and subtle overtones of music far more realistically than CD recordings can. The format also provides enhancements, depending on disc content, such as song lyrics, liner notes, "photo albums" of band members, and other menu items which can be displayed on the screen of a connected television.
As an anti-piracy measure, the PV-VD4753S performs its own decoding of DVD-Audio signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to your surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to appreciate this feature. The player also decodes Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround signals. The VCR's four-head design ensures smooth slow-motion tape play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, and with hi-fi sound the unit records and plays back stereo audio tracks. The unit even lets you record a TV show while watching a DVD at the same time.
Customer Reviews:
Simultaneous outputs.......2003-09-14
Nice enough player.
The user interface is plain - nothing more than text, without the polish of Sony combo units.
Ignore the editorial review's comments on needing a receiver with analog inputs. This player does provide analog outputs for surround, but it also provides optical output for connection to a receiver that decodes its own surround sound.
The machine has one standout capability: when playing a DVD on progressive scan, the VCR/DVD line outputs are still active and correct! (Many current players will disable the line outputs when set to progressive scan [e.g. Samsung] or they will scramble and become unusable [e.g. Sony].) This is a splendid feature if you are driving an HDTV monitor and a "normal" TV (i.e. one in another room) simultaneously. (Admittedly, if you don't use this arrangement, this feature has little value; but for those who do drive dual monitors, this is a critical feature that is rarely found.)
