The Basics

Hard Drive: The ATA-100 (Enhanced IDE) 80 GB (7200 RPM) hard drive is average in comparison with other workstation desktop PCs in this price range, and it's understandable due to its classification as a business professional computer (where much data is shared and stored on networked servers).
Processor: The hyper-threaded 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4 530 processor is at the low end of the spectrum for this processor (as of June 2005). Its hyper-threading feature allows this single CPU system to behave in some aspects like a dual-CPU system, helping to deliver faster transistors and increased performance. It also features a fast 800 MHz front-side bus speed, which measures how fast a processor and the main memory communicate, and a 1 MB L2 cache. A Hyper-Threading processor helps a PC to run multiple demanding applications at the same time. Video and graphics are powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900, which uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) and provides 64 MB of shared video memory. Great way to get into DTS-ES (6.1!) on a budget.......2001-10-13

The VSX-D810S appears to be the best receiver at the moment to enter the DTS world on a budget. It supports DTS-ES and Dolby Digital with an additional rear center speaker for 6.1 sound (only supported by a handful of DVDs so far, e.g. Gladiator).

Its 6 channel speaker and pre-amp outputs make the system totally customizable. Each channels volume can be adjusted separately in order to accommodate the connected set of speakers as well as their placement. There is also a separate, variable pre-amp output for EVERY channel ! This usually can't be found on a system under 800 bucks.
So if you run out of speakers you can just hook up powered computer speakers or amplified studio monitors to the pre-amp outputs in order to get the sound for all channels.

It also allows for setting speaker size for your configuration (in order to send less bass to smaller speakers) as well as the distance to the speaker (for correct reverb effect simulations, etc.). It has many sound modes for stereo as well as digital sound sources and can enhance even DTS soundtracks with an extreme additional amount of spacial sound effects if so desired. It also has special settings for systems with or without attached subwoofer.

It sounds great in a normal sized living room. It might probably not satisfy the high-end sound freaks but if you're on a budget and just want to have DTS-ES sound at home, it's great. Considering the price, I personally kept my expectations low but I was blown away when I watched my first DTS movie with it.

The best low-price shelf system on the market.......2002-04-30

I've owned several shelf systems in my day, from old 8-track systems to 5-disk CD players with thumping woofers. I don't claim to be an expert, but the RCA RS2506 is the best mini system/shelf system I've owned!

Yes, you can get more power and bass out of a system using a seperate equalizer, CD player, etc., but for a low-cost mini system you can't beat this baby. My friend has a $800 stereo system and we both swear my RCA RS2506 puts out as good or better sound.

The speakers (two thumping woofers and two perfect tweeters) that come with the system are great, so great that I plugged my TV and DVD player into the stereo and use the speakers for my home theater system. They sound GREAT!!! If you get this system to create a low-cost home entertainment center and sound system you won't be disappointed. However, I recommend getting two more speakers to create a "true" surround sound effect. I did, and I wasn't disappointed.

This little system packs quite a lot of power in a little package. 100 watts might not sound like a lot, but it's a lot for a mini system, and it's more than many of the cheap surround sound systems out there. Get this stereo. You'll love it as much as I do.

Not a good camera.......2004-12-23

I received this camera from my husband as a gift right before our son was born. What a mistake this purchase was. It is large and bulky, but the worst thing is that the picture quality is very unpredictable. Some photos turn out ok, others are just awful. The zoom lens almost always takes fuzzy pictures. This is NOT operator error - I have had other cameras and never had problems like this. I also HATE that the camera pauses for a full second when you hit the shutter button before the photo actually takes. When you have small children, their smiles are unpredictable and I've missed too many great shots because this camera paused for too long. I'm going to get rid of this one and buy myself an Olympus Stylus. My advice is to stay away from this one.

I purchased this camera to replace yet another camera my husband broke. I am sick of spending a lot on cameras and have seen this one for almost twice as much as I paid here at Amazon.com. So I bought it and love it. It is simple to use, has auto rewind, zoom lens and date, and is inexpensive. Not any problems and we take a lot of pictures.

This great camera may be small, but it's packed with great features!
The zoom lens is terrific. While I was at my cousin's concert, I could see them up close without moving an inch! Believe me, going from 38mm to 115mm is a long way. I also love the all of the modes. The flash modes are: Auto flash, auto flash with red eye reduction, day-light sync (fill-in flash), slow shutter flash off mode (it uses natural light where flash is not advised), and slow shutter with flash and red eye reduction. The other modes are Infinity landscape mode and self timer (10 sec.) For the price, this is a great camera!
