The idea of a high quality remote wireless screen seems like a luxury, but soon becomes indispensable. In about 15 seconds from the moment you turn it on, you can see and control your office computer from home (provided of course you have broadband). The screen is full size, and has a built in stand which props it up at various convenient tilts. Viewing angle and fidelity are not up to desktop standards, but better than your average laptop. Even the stereo sound is not too bad. The wireless keyboard/touchpad works well, and functions as a screen protector when the unit is off (very clever).
However, my main gripe was with the handwriting capability. Being Windows CE based, the software recognition was only Pocket PC (Transcriber) in quality, as opposed to the better Windows XP (Office) variety. But that still makes it useable for a mix of print/cursive with no training. The real problem is with the touchscreen. The engineers were smart enough to use close-dot spacing in the digitizer to prevent one's hand from triggering a response (called "palm rejection"), a fatal flaw in the Viewsonic models. But they chose a pressure threshold far too high for writing, making the stylus marks skip (e.g. 'n' becomes 'r'). Although you can use very firm and steady pressure to compensate, it becomes tiring for any length of time. Not a problem though with the on-screen (or regular) keyboard. Maybe the next version will fix this.
One big plus: a dedicated toll-free support line goes straight into technical support for this particular unit.
By the way, don't be put off that this is not a real computer, and only a display. The startup and maintenance costs are negligible, making the total cost (and hassle) of ownership far lower more than with a Tablet PC. You'll have more time for work or play instead of fiddling with it.

would not play any dvds. Obviously broken and should have been tested before shipoping. it was refurbished. i didnt check it until i had driven 1 hour of a 6 hour drive. my kid screemed the entire time. amazon didnt have a replacement so they refunded my money. big disapointment.

Excellent portable DVD player for the money. The dual screens are great and offer super video quality, as well as, good viewable size comparable to the major players whithout the major cost. We have recently used this DVD player on two vacation get-a-ways. The kids (and adults) loved it. This unit is very versatile. One can watch a movie while another can play a video game. In the car, hotel room, tent, RV, even the boat. You can use this DVD player anywhere. The only drawback is that the unit does not utilze a battery source. Overall a must have to keep the kids pre-occupied on those long trips!

With its price performance level I think its one of the best choices for DVD writer on the market now. Easy to install. XP compatible. Works great with NERO 6. Writes 4X around 15 minutes.
Only drawback is its only compatible with (-) media however who cares because the data format is same for everyone. I am using it for storing data. I didnt have any problems to play my dvd movies made with this one on my laptop or sony dvd player anyway.

This recorder is great, despite the horrible software package, but it doesnt cme in black. A lot of people inmcluding me have black computers now a days and a lot of drives do not come black...in fact i could not find 1 black dvd burner. Shame on all companies for doing this and discriminating against blacks.
Okay - but needs more standards support/faster.......2003-01-28
This is a good drive, but it is a bit slow, and does not write the "+" standard format. Though, it does READ the "+" format. It is a bit slower than + drives to write, due to the nature of "-" format. Though, having said all that, it is a solid drive, with a slew of (non-"+" standard) features. The cd-rw speed of 8x is ok, and cd-rw at 16x is more than enough for most users (based on their hard drive read speed). It is very compatible with standalone DVD players. I would recommend to anyone who has a DVD player with the "-" format, and who does not care about the "+" format drives.

Best stereo I've used.......2005-12-06
This stereo has the best sound I have ever heard (obviously not comparing this to more expensive stereos). I bought mine a couple years ago (because I missed having a stereo around) and have been happy with it the entire time. It plays MP3s just fine and the sound quality for MP3s are perfect - it depends on the quality of the MP3s and how they are burned to CD, not how the stereo plays them. I have never had a single problem with this stereo and mine still looks and feels brand new.

everything has been said in other reviews really, but here are my main concerns... when playing an MP3 disc, there is no shuffle feature which is really lame. MP3 discs hold hundreds of songs and you have to hear them in the same exact order every time? yuk. ALSO, i lose discs sometimes because of the 1-drawer, 5-disc setup. it takes a minute or two to find them. OVERALL, it sounds great, just be aware of the features you need and make sure it has them before you buy. Above average stereo, just not what I wanted.

I have this thing hooked up to my Delphi SkyFi XM Radio unit and I get good sound however I have to give you a warning. This thing plays most mp3's terrible. Any mp3's that are encoded using the LAME Encoder will play terrible there is a loud screeching noise that will keep playing, on my cheap mp3 cd player I get a annoying churp but on this one it is just let you say you can't listen to the mp3's. Any mp3's that are encoded without LAME otherwise play fine. Since I got it for mp3's I am kinda annoyed that I can't listen to most of them.
Fantastic Sound.......2003-05-01
I purchased this system and am quite happy with the sound. It is so much better than my old micro-system. I would like to have had auto reverse for the cassettes and high speed dubbing as well as bass and treble controls, but at $... what did I really expect. I wanted great sound. Got it. I wanted to be able to play more than one cd at a time. It plays five. I wanted to be able to play cassettes. I can. I wanted AM/FM radio. It has that too. The other features I'd like to have would cost another $... or more. I'm completely satisfied with this system. Oh, by the way, I love the small remote control device.
