Works with Solaris 10 x86.......2007-09-05

My old eMachines T1150 has no built-in NIC. Two cheap 10/100 NICs were not recognized by Solaris 10 x86 (actually, Solaris Nevada b69). I finally decide to buy the Intel PWLA8391GT PRO/1000 GT PCI NIC since I read it used the Solaris e1000g driver. Sure enough, it worked for me. My PC has a 1.3GHz Celeron, 384MB RAM, and two 40GB 5400 RPM disks, so the throughput on the NIC is probably limited by the hardware around it. Thought I'd pass this info along in case there are Solaris folks out there looking for compatible PCI NICs. I believe there's a PCIe version available too.

Had a D-Link Gigabit GA311 card and had nothing but problems under XP and Vista; would only connect at 100MB speed. This Intel card worked on both systems out of the box flawlessly. Highly recommended.

INTEL PRO 1000 GT PCI Installs easily and works fine!.......2007-06-10

I needed a network card for my Dell Dimension 4500 that works with Vista. The INTEL PRO 1000 GT PCI filled the requirement. Received the item promptly, and I physically installed it easily. I rebooted to Vista. The drivers installed automatically and I was off and surfing in Vista! I also still use Windows XP with the same fine results. I would recommend this card to anyone needing a newer card for Vista.

Gigabit is superb.......2007-04-19

Intel Pro 1000 desktop adapters work with Linux straight out of the box. You plug it in the PCI card slot inside the computer case and it will automatically be recognized by the Linux Kernel on boot, and configured as eth0. On the downside, with Microsoft Windows XP you need to install drivers. I wasn't surprised when I had to change my router (switch) to be gigabit compatible, and all the other machines needed gigabit cards, which they all had already, to get a gigabit network. Gigabit is 1000 base T, or ten times the speed of 100 base T, the current world standard. Intel makes great equipment, and most of it works with Linux. I don't endorse any operating systems, as this is a personal preference. I only think people should know the truth.

many config opts, easy to install, good price and reliable product. i have my appraisal office configured completely cat6; with all workstations using the intel pro 1000 lan cards; gigabit routers and switches on a t1 line. the difference is very noticeable. i highly recommend this lan card for users who need the speed and want the difference.

I'm sure this thing works well but not in HP laptops. I don't even think it's a function of the card, I think it's HPs proprietary junk... I'll have to give it a 3 because I am not sure how well it really works, only on paper does it lookk good. This is supposed to work in all (IIRC) IBM thinkpads.

Intel ethernet adapters are top sellers for good reason. They work!
Be aware - this particular model is for servers!!! it has a very short mounting plate and is not designed for pc's. Of course does make the Pro 1000 GT for PC's but this is not the one. I made it work for my pc because i am handy with sheet metal tools but be aware.
Once the bracket was handled and the card was installed, it is flawless in performance and the network management tools that are downloadable from intel are fantastic.

Disconnect.......2007-06-13

The product worked fine for about an hour. I have to reboot the machine and reconfigure the card in order to use it and it will still lose its signal within an hour or so. The machine is about 30 feet from the router and I have checked for driver and software updates.

I had no problem with this on my Toshiba 1415-s173.......2004-06-27

I added this to my laptop and it works very well. Range is much increased over the Linksys PC card I had. The loop antenna system in the Toshiba gives a great signal. Intel makes good stuff. I called Toshiba to see what they reccommended and this was a good number with them.

Incompatible with IBM T40.......2004-02-11

This card is not compatible with IBM T40,40p,41,41p laptops. Even though it is almost exactly the same card that IBM will sell you for twice as much, the bios in these laptops will stop you before windows can even boot. In any other laptop it is probably a nice card. Just a friendly word of warning.

Didn't work with my Thinkpad T40 and SuSE Linux 9.0 Pro.......2003-12-01

It is a shame that Intel continues the "Wintel" (Windows+Intel) legacy of releasing drivers for their hardware for windows only.

I tried this card on a Thinkpad T40, on which I installed SUSE LINUX PRO v9.0. It turns out that Intel has not developed (nor they seem to be planning to) linux drivers for this card.

Hopefully I was able to return the Intel WLAN card, and I'm currently using a Orinoco dual-wlan (802.11a/802.11b) card on the Thinkpad's Cardbus slot. Unlike the Intel "solution" the Orinoco works beatifully.

Until Intel stops meaning "wintel", avoid this card, unless you use WinXP, which is apparently what Intel wants you to do, along with Microsoft.

That some companies would use their market domination to prevent competition and letting the users run alternative operating systems is a shame. Hopefully other vendors of Wireless lan cards (see above) are fully supporting Linux.

Does not work under Linux.......2003-09-12

I wish I could recommend this product, but it does not work for me under the Linux operating system. Intel normally has a good track record providing technical documentation so that open-source OSs such as Linux can have drivers for their products. However, in this case, no such support is available. This wireless card simply does not work under Linux because no driver is available. Rather, Orinoco cards are still the best way to go for Linux 802.11b capability. They are available under many names as Mini-PCI cards, such as the Dell Truemobile 1150.

In addition, Windows support for the PRO/Wireless 2100 is also flaky. Specifically, when coupled with a Netgear wireless router, the card will often loose signal to the router, requiring either the router or the computer to be restarted.

I have sent this item back to the elusive company that repairs or sends out refurbished stock with you return this CF. On 3 separate times it was returnd, and they seem to have lost the last return- $129.00 down the drain. I prefer my Toshiba 8 gb, as it works flawlessly for at least 48 GB's worth of photos. The Seagate failed every time, after very little use.
Definitely not worth the 39.00 they are now selling it for.

Works great.......2007-08-24

I bought this at an astonishing $49.99 almost half a year ago. Why has this drive increased so much in price? Anyways, I have two of them and trusted them to a Europe trip in April, to the 10,500 foot Sandia Peak in New Mexico in June (you are not supposed to use them above 10,000 feet)-never had a problem with either drive. Last year went to Asia for a month, brought a portable storage HD, why would this be any less reliable than, say an Epson P-2000 or Wolverine? If these came back to under $50, than I would by another pair.

No such thing as to much storage space. I'm a storage hog. This is a great addition and much needed item for laptop users. We have 3 computers and this makes syncing a breeze. Great for transferring files from home to work and visa versa. Works well for me.

The space is nice, but it is slower than imaginable. I have never seen something take so long to store a 5 picture burst.. it takes almost 6 seconds for me. Not that I am a professional or anything, but if your subject is moving relatively quickly, 6 seconds is long enough for it to be gone after you snap your first few.

High Capacity, low cost, but slow.......2007-03-09

Fairly inexpensive when I purchased this for $150 last summer. If I waited until now, for the same price, I could get a CF card in non-hard drive version for the same price which I would suggest over this. The unit is very slow and the hard drive base unit takes alot more power from your machine. I use this with my Dell Axim X50v, and though it works, the battery consumption is very noticable. Also, the speed of the drive is definately not the fastest. Like I said above, for the $150 that I paid summer of 2006, it was a great deal but as all things, prices drop and if I had to do it over, I would skip this and go for flash based unit.
