Problematic network connection.......2007-08-12
This drive doesn't live up to its claims, nor is it an effective network drive. When I first hooked it up, it was fine: the setup was quick, the interface seemed user friendly, and I was able to create users and log in from my other computers on the network.
The problems started when transferring files. First, transferring any file that was larger than 100mb would somehow disconnect the drive and render it unavailable over the network. I would have to manually shut it down and power it up since the web interface was no longer reachable. Second, as I was using it as a backup drive, I copied over a bunch of files, and while it was copying them, the drive crashed and lost all my files. I'm glad I didn't rely on this crappy machine as the only back-up device.
Now, it seems that the network connection (probably the network card) is gone and I can't use the drive anymore. The blue light assures me that it is functioning correctly, but when searching for it, either with the DriveDiscovery software, or just trying to navigate to it using the network browser, it's not there.
I bought this last year in October, so this stupid thing didn't even last a year. And there is absolutely no help from Iomega's website.
If you're thinking of getting a NAS, please don't get this one, and definitely don't use it as a back-up device.
Not a good backup solution.......2007-07-06
I bought this product to provide an unattended backup solution for multiple workgroup PCs. Unfortunately I could never get this to work even with multiple calls to Iomega technical support. The documentation doesn't tell you that the user accounts you create on the drive must be the same as those on the Windows client and the drive letters mapped to individual shared directories can't be maintained during a reboot whether mapped through the Iomega Discovery Tool or the Windows interface. The Retrospect Backup software included seems like a pretty good product, but unattended backups consitently fail because of drive mapping and authentication problems. I requested that Iomega refund my purchase price but they declined...first because I didn't buy it from their web site...then later because they said there was nothing wrong with the drive even though they admitted that the advertised and documented functions did not work correctly. I spent 8 hours troubleshooting this product at a customer site and with Iomega support and could never get this product to work correctly...DONT BUY THIS DRIVE FOR BACKUP SOLUTION IF YOU WANT TO HAVE INDIVIDUAL USER ACCOUNT/DIRECTORIES AND UNATTENDED BACKUP!
Great BackUp Drive.......2007-05-22
Easy To install/configure,worked right out of the box.
Easy to use GUI interface(configure users, shares)
Great as a backup device, Drive is a little slow to be a primary storage device.
If you want speed, an external USB drive would be the way to go.
Fan is a little noisey, but only after large data transfers.
Slow writing speed.......2006-12-11
I have to agree with the reviewers that state that this thing has a slow writing speed. I am experiencing this as well with my unit. I suspect there is some lag time going from Firewire to USB, though the box on the Iomega clearly states that the drive operates at 7200 rpm- same as my firewire drive.... Also once you open the file window to the hard drive it takes five seconds or so for the files to actually appear. At first I was worried that they didn't copy over, but they did. Just delayed repsonse time.... I am using a 2006 PowerMac w/ 2.0 USB.
I just purchased this past weekend so I unable to share any other issues with you at this time.
Network Drive Touts Backup.......2006-07-12
Network storage is undeniably convenient for backing up documents and storing media files. Iomega's StorCenter Network Hard Drive is very similar to others in its category, distinguished mainly by its physical design and distinctive software bundle.
I tested a shipping version of the 250GB StorCenter and found much to like. Unlike most network hard drives I've seen, which lack a switch and are always on, the sleek black unit has a power switch on the back. Like competing drives, such as the pricier Maxtor 500GB Shared Storage Plus ($500), the Iomega has two USB 2.0 expansion ports (for attaching other storage devices or a printer), is Universal Plug and Play-compliant (for use with a UPnP media server), and has gigabit ethernet.
Installation was simple; I attached the drive to the network and ran the installation utility, and my system's OS automatically assigned the StorCenter a drive letter. Iomega's installer has a friendly, unimposing design, as does its Discovery Tools software, which can be run at any time to find the drive's IP address, rename the drive, or change the drive mapping.
The remainder of the software bundle consists of the full version of Iomega's capable Automatic Backup Pro 3.3 software (a $70 value by itself) and Microsoft's FolderShare, for secure data sharing via the Internet. The included free (limited) FolderShare program would have set this drive apart, but regrettably the service was scheduled for discontinuation in early 2006.
The Automatic Backup Pro software and power switch make this drive an attractive option. But the drive's 250GB capacity feels limited, given that a number of networked drives come in capacities up to twice that (and priced accordingly, of course).

Not ready for production.......2006-10-23
It's October 2006. I just purchased the 250GB Storcenter External Hard Drive with built in uPnP media server, FTP server, etc. I bought it because I wanted a backup for my PC and a media server all in one device. I've tried and tried to get this thing to work for 4 weeks, even getting in touch with Iomega tech support twice, and the bottom line is: I'M SELLING IT AND AM GOING TO TRY THE D-LINK DNS-323 INSTEAD! I have the latest firmware installed on the Storcenter. For reference, I have this hard drive hooked up via ethernet cable to my SBC DSL modem/router with built-in 802.11g wireless, to which my PC is also connected. Two rooms away in my living room, I have a SMC 802.11g wireless music player which works fine with either Windows Media Connect (now built into Windows Media Player version 11) or MusicMatch software running on my PC. I was using this device to (attempt to) play the music stored on the StorCenter drive.
The Iomega 250G Storcenter has the following problems:
1. You cannot use it as a media server and a mapped network hard drive at the same time (at least for more than a couple minutes). Having the media server active kicks the hard drive off the network. Disabling the media server corrects this problem. So, in essence, you have to log in and change the drive's settings depending on whether you want to listen to music in the living room or if you want to copy/paste files to the hard drive.
2. As a corollary to item 1, you cannot use the Iomega 1 step-backup software if the drive's media server is active. Your backup will not complete, because the media server will soon kick the drive off the network.
3. The media server settings in the Storcenter drive give you the option to limit its search for media files to one folder on the drive. This doesn't work if the directory structure is too long. The CGI script will bomb. This is unfortunate, because all I did was use the Iomega 1-step backup to back up the "my documents" folder. But as you know in Windows XP, "My Documents" is not directly under the C: drive. So by the time you nagivate to backups/my first backup/documents and settings/my username/my documents/my music, the Storcenter's browser-based control panel can't handle it. It should be noted that the CGI script DOES NOT bomb because the filename is too long for Windows. If the filename were too longer for windows, then the file couldn't have been copied to its location. Think about it.
4. I tried letting the storcenter index all media on the drive, and then I tried limiting it to the My Music folder (which I moved closer to the drive root - see item 3 above), and neither one ended up working well with my SMC wireless media player. Though the media player was reading data from the Storcenter (I received a menu for the Storcenter drive with menu items of 'Music', 'Pictures', 'Videos', 'File Structure' etc. Turns out I could navigate to and then play a PORTION of the audio files by using the 'File Structure' menu option, which just lets you navigate the directory structure to the files you want. But selecting 'Music' just caused my SMC media player to display its 'I'm working' icon for 5 seconds, then revert back to the same menu screen. It would never take me into the next menu under 'Music' except occasionally (like when I told the Storcenter to rebuild its media server index, and it was busy re-indexing but hadn't got very far). Under the 'Music' menu item there was 'All Music', 'Genres', 'Authors', etc. But 99% of the time, I was dead in the water. But after the Storcenter had reindexed the entire contents of the My Music folder residing on it, then I could no longer go past the 'Music' menu item. My guess is that some of my files (an eclectic mix of .wma's and .mp3's, many of which are my ripped CD collection, and many of which are my own audio recordings as a songwriter) posed a situation that the Iomega Storcenter just can't handle. Too bad, because Windows Media Connect (Windows Media Player 11) can handle these files. And so can MusicMatch software.
So, bottom line is that I'm selling this bad boy (I'm using bad in its literal sense, not in the postmodern sense where 'bad' means 'good'), and buying the D-Link DNS-323 to see if it's any better. Sure it's more expensive, but at least I'll get RAID backup and a gigabit ethernet port. Not to mention a media server that works.
Do not buy this item.......2006-09-13
I backed up all my data, verified it was there, shut down everything correctly and then moved from a laptop (XP v/2) to a new computer (XP also). All of my data is now being read as RAW and unaccessible (computer asks if I want to format hard drive). IOMEGA is no help at all. Do not buy this product. I would hesitate buying any IOMEGA product.
pretty nice for home computing.......2006-07-11
Installation and configuration are very easy. It has native support for Windows and Linux, very rare in similar products of the price range. The 'foldershare' server is one of the most worthy feature. Do NOT update your firmware, because then you will lose it due to contract reasons. MS bought the company supplies foldershare service. I think the service will stay, and I am willing to pay if they start charging.
The fan is loud (the only thing from 5 stars). Definitely not something you want to be in the same room when you work. For me it's okay since it stays with the router, etc. in another room. I bought one at $120 last week and the second at $70 this week (on sale), all from CompUSA.
Edit on 7/17/2006: 1) The fan is really loud, you just can't underestimate how loud it is; 2) unstable, unreliable, and inconsistent connection. When two of my PCs accessing one file the same time, both lost connection. This is the worst among three network storage I personally use at home. The best is the NetDisk (not as many features, but stable, reliable and consistent).
If I could lower the stars to 1, I would have.
High noise level and slow writes.......2006-05-15
I bought this drive today from Fry's for around $250 + tax. I had a 60GB portable iomega drive that I have been happy with and kind of was the reason I decided to buy this one.
After a few hours now I am pretty sure that I will return it tomorrow. The drive is very slow when writing. I never had a network drive before but I know the speed just doesn't make sense for a backup device. The other thing is the noise level. I don't know how companies get away with not putting the noise level on the box. I wish this was mandatory. Also the size of cache buffer is no where to be found.
Installing the drive was very easy and I didn't even installed the software that came with it.
So far so good.......2006-02-22
The setup was trivial. I have a 150GB Iomega drive also which has performed well without problems. I gave it 5 stars but I would give it 4.5 stars (if i could) for some minor issues:
a) it is a little noisy, although I keep it in another room so it's not too bothersome for me.
b) the 250GB drive does not always detect the first time (the 150GB drive always does). sometimes I have to go thru the detection process twice.
so far though i've had no major problems with it.

Fragile - be careful.......2003-04-28
After 10 months of use the switch on my card broke off rendering it useless since it is no longer writable. It was removed from my digital camera, inserted into a reader on my computer then inserted back in the camera 110 times (based on counting the number of folders I have - one for each cut & paste from the card). I expected it to last longer than that.
Bang for the Buck.......2003-04-24
All this stuff is the same, so buy the most MB for the money. This guy does it as well as any, but costs less. Why pay more?
Handy to Have Around.......2003-03-08
With so many extra Palm software titles available, most Palm units 8 megabytes and fewer don't seem to have enough memory.
The SanDisk 64 MB SD card for your PDA comes in handy as a place to store documents, programs, photos, and games you don't use daily but want nearby.
Just plug it into your memory slot and save over to the card. It's that easy. Also, you may want to consider a program like "Filez," (there are others) which will help you determine which files are on the card.
Boost PDA Memory.......2002-08-03
Two kids and a dog. I can't help but carry pictures of them to show them off. Photos take too much memory, so I purchased the card and put the photos on it as well as PDF files and reading materials. It's great not to clutter and slow down the PDA with these files that are housed on the card. Only complaint is that it's slow to load the items on the card.
Whenever I go to my photos, it takes longer to get them loaded than if they were on the PDA's memory. But, if the photos are in the PDA itself, then it uses up precious space.
I just used it with a card reader that I bought and the reader read the files quickly. It's small and lightweight -- easy for people to lose and misplace. But, I keep the card in except for when loading its data into the card reader.

With the Dual Shock 2 Controller for PS2 let you customize your gaming experience and enjoy it more comfortably than ever! Color - Slate Grey
Amazon.com Product Description
The layout of PlayStation2's Dual Shock 2 controller is nearly identical to that of the original PlayStation's Dual Shock controller, which is good news for most gamers. The main new feature is that, when the buttons are pushed, the controller can register how much pressure is being exerted. This adds a completely new dimension to sports, racing, fighting, and more games. Aside from the Start and Select buttons, all of the functions are analog for greater control, a wider variety of operations, and a more compelling interactive experience. Two convex analog thumb pads and two force-feedback solenoid rumblers round out the features. This controller is also compatible with all software that supports the original Dual Shock controller.

Sony Playstation 2 Dualshock Controller Black.......2007-09-08
Just like the last 3 Sony controllers I bought, this one sucks. As soon as I plugged it in, and turned on the game, the person I was trying to control starting moving backwards at a pretty fast clip. When I got it to stop moving backwards, he starting moving to the right just as fast. It was impossible to control him. I have since purchased a controller from Alienware, and it works perfect. Sony sucks. They have lost all interest in quality control. They are going on their name alone. I have 2 sons who have exactly the same problem with thier Sony controllers. I was going to send it back, but I just figured it would be a hassle, so I threw it away. Forget Sony if you want anything with high quality. I am not someone who abuses the game counsels or any thing that has to do with them. I am 61 years old and have been playing video games for a looooooong time. And my sons are 32 years old and 41 years old. They are not abusive little kids.
No problems.......2007-08-31
We recently purchased a 2 Dualshock Controller for sony Playstation and my son tells me it is working excellently.
