Worse home electronic device I've ever owned.......2006-03-28

This unit is horrible! It takes forever to eject a DVD when commanded, it's excessively slow to switch to another chapter when you command skip between chapters, it won't read home-burned double -layer DVDs (!@#$!), etc. I would steer clear of this unit. I'm so incensed at how bad this product is that I won't EVER buy another JVC product of any sort.

Buyer beware!.......2005-11-18

I bought THREE of these things over the last two years ... at least two of them from Amazon. (The actual model number was different -- XVC20U in black -- but it's basically the same combo deck they've been selling for several years now. Now they've added progressive scan and DVD burner, other than that it looks like the exact same thing that I bought.)

They worked fine at first, but after a while, DVDs started freezing up on them. Oddly, I have absolutely NO trouble playing music CDs in the very same drives.

DVD freezing has happens on ALL THREE of them, but it is worse on the unit I have used most. It seems to do it less when the machine or the DVD has cooled down. It gets worse over time. Lens cleaning with a disc-brusher, lens cleaning via taking off the case for direct contact cleaning, and air-pressured dusting -- all do no good.

Anyway, thanks to JVC I have several hundred dollars worth of DVD players that don't play DVDs ... other reviews (under various model numbers) suggest there's not a chance JVC will make good on them.

I have had, in the past, good luck with JVC TVs and car stereo units, and I try to stay loyal to brands, suppliers and what not. But I seriously doubt I will be making any other JVC purchases due to these things. I suppose JVC doesn't place much value on their brand or image or they wouldn't have dumped this stuff into the marketplace.

It seems to be getting harder and harder to find companies that bother to make products that are actually worth what you pay for them. I suppose companies that rip-off customers and laugh their way to the bank must be part of the "new economy" I keep hearing about.

Barely outlived the warranty.......2005-10-07

The on screen instructions for recording television didn't match the actual method required. The DVD/VCR switch no longer functions. Now the program I recorded can't be watched because I can't switch it to VCR, nor can I eject the tape. The warranty expired 2-months ago.

Not only was this defective from Day 1, JVC Customer service did not answer the phone for many days. Their customer service center wanted $75 for a diagnostic. Keep in mind that the cost of the item was $99. The original tape in the machine does not eject. I will never buy any JVC product again. Bad product, bad service.

Great little camera.......2005-09-25

The lens is adjustable instead of fixed... for sharper nearby images. It comes with a power supply, & 60' of cable to plug it into anything...vcr, burner, monitor, or video card. And you can't beat the price. Don't be fooled by the pic which makes one think that this is your typical wired & enclosed mini camera. This one's a lot smaller.

The power supply, a small AC adapter, can either be plugged into an outlet near the camera or way at the other end of the 60' cable near your VCR or monitor.

I give it 5 stars because although the camera's image isn't as good as some much more expensive much bigger cameras, it's a little better than typical cameras even 3 times this size & price. It's weather proof but not water proof. Which means it can take being splashed but will not take being drenched or submerged in water. Intall it on your covered porch or under the eaves of your roof.

The outer casing is thick metal although it looks plastic. It's a solidly built & can take abuse. Pop in any cheap T-160 tape in a VCR set at the slow speed, & you have a continuous 8 hours of security recording time. I use an $18 5" Coby B&W TV from Amazon as a monitor, but at these prices I got 2 cameras & 2 TVs! These are the cheapest TVs around that actually have RCA video inputs in the back. For a basic B&W TV monitor & AM-FM radio, it ain't bad.

Crime's on the rise, cops can't be everywhere, & taxpayers are going broke. A few of these in your area will clean up the hood. You'll know who's been around when you're at work, & with the low-light feature, you'll know who's around when you're sleeping... and get 'em on tape with any cheap vcr or 2.

This is a great stereo boombox! the best I have ever owned. The sound is perfect and crystal clear. The design of it is great. there is alot of quality here. You get alot of quality for your money. I highly recommend this stereo and the products of this company.

Excellent and priced right.......2001-02-05

This is an excellent boom box for the price. It does everything well and the sound quality is great. The dynamic bass boost is exceptional- the sound is very deep and clear whether you're playing the radio, tape, or a CD. Radio reception is also very good and it's great at rejecting interference from strong stations. The tuner is so selective, especially on FM, that some close stations come in as clearly as in a car. I previously had a Sanyo boombox and liked it, but I wanted to upgrade to something better, and when I heard this one I had to buy it. The only thing that is strange is that there's no window on the tape deck and the CD player shows only the track number, not the time. But I've noticed that many other boom boxes in this price range are the same way. Overall this is an excellent boom box. It's the first Philips product I have purchased, and I'm sure it won't be the last. I would highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for a great-sounding boom box and doesn't want to spend a lot.

Very practical and good sounding unit.......2000-11-18

I was very impressed with the sound that this unit produced. It has a bass reflex system, which results in a fuller sound. It is very easy to use and again the sound it produces is very good. It is small and light and can easily fit in the corner of your desk or cubicle.

There are a few things that I wish were better, though I have to consider the price and that it does put out very good sound. Loading and unloading a CD can be hazardous if you are not careful because the compartment is tight (there is little room to maneuver the CD). The chances of scratching a CD is higher than normal in my opinion. I wish that the CD mode (repeat, repeat all, etc.) would be stored so you don't have to set it every time you play a CD. After all, if I am at work and I put a CD in the unit to play, then chances are I want it to repeat until I stop it. I shouldn't have to set the mode to repeat all each time I put a CD in or even play the same CD after stopping it.

Overall, I think this is a very good unit for your office, den, or bedroom and I do recommend it. I am very pleased with it and glad that I purchased it.

Lots of bang for your buck!.......2000-11-03

A great product! It has nice features and the sound is terrific, especially the bass. I'm amazed to find such great quality for the price. I have several other Philips products (2 televisions and a DVD player) and I've always been satisfied.

from my childhood i love calculators'digitaldiaries'sci.cacl. but at that time i was littele i read many magazines about pcs an d specially for hpc fist time i read out about psion palmtop pcs in PCmagazine.i like it very much i also like casio's product. as tell above now i plan to buy psion' one palmtop pc. but there is one probllem psion's many products are not available in india but i inquiry on internet.i hope one day i get it.about psion his products are good. i m working in colour dyes factory so i have to keep data of colours,rawmaterials.stocks,etc.i like psion series 3c.
