From the first day that I brought this player home it has had problems. First of all, it is very slow for loading times and exchange times.

Next, it jitters and jumps on DVDs, new ones and old ones. I just purchased The Rundown and right out of the case it has problems with this movie. The problem is difficult to describe. At first I thought that it was having difficulty transitioning to the second layer on dual layer discs, however after further testing it appears to have problems with any part of the second layer. As most people know, or will find out, movies that are purchased are created with dual layer technology and the latter portion of most movies are on the second layer. I also noticed this problem occuring in the beginning segments of my daughter's Brother Bear movie.

It plays CDs fine and plays MP3 cds fine as well. I wish that when it played CDs that it would provide a list of the tracks - not the titles, just at least the track numbers on the TV screen. When an MP3 disc is played it lists the file names on the TV, which is nice, however, if you have files that have cryptic filenames and you rely on the MP3 ID tag when you listen to them on your computer, it becomes difficult to decipher them on the television screen.

I would recommend that the consumer keeps on shopping. I have gone through 2 Sonys before I purchased this DVD player and a JVC prior to those Sonys. The Sonys do not last very long, lasers burn out easily, but are great for features and speed. I am looking for a Pioneer to match my receiver or possibly invest in a higher end player to replace this disappointing JVC.

I purchased mine for $179.99 as Ultimate Electronics in February 2004.

Clearing up some issues - This is a great DVD player.......2004-03-17

I bought this player (Gold colored) 2 years ago. I liked it so much that I just bought the Black one a week ago for another room in the house. The reason why, it is simply an extremely well engineered piece of equipment. Superb audio and video output period. I have found that this unit has the best zoom (more than just 3 or 4 zoom levels) and more levels of forward and backward speeds (useful when searching through a chapter on a DVD and you don't want to miss it by going too fast, and don't want to wait forever by going too slow) than any other unit I have tested or looked at.

The remote is one of the best I have ever used, and I find it very intuitive and easy to use. The user's manual is great as well. I also liked that it came with a component video cable and I didn't have to purchase one separately.

If you plan to use this unit primarily as a DVD player and are likely to have "marathon" DVD sessions, this unit is superb. I often have a mix of several 2 disc DVD's and some audio CD's in the unit and love having the 7 disc capacity to be able to do this.

Some of the negative reviews here have bothered me because they seem to come from some ignorant viewpoints. I would like to address those for those of you considering this unit.

Noise while changing disks: For those who complain about noise while changing a disc, you should probably have gone in to your local Best Buy or other electronics store and viewed a floor model. When you see and understand the mechanical method used you will understand why there is "some" noise while it changes discs. I, for one, do not find this disturbing at all. To get a 7 disc changer in the space of 5, and from an engineering standpoint, I find JVC's method rather ingenious. I tell you, don't let a little noise when it changes discs to dissuade you from buying this unit. This unit makes absolutley NO NOISE (other than the intended audio from the media being played) when playing.

Flashing light for current disc being played: The light that flashes for the current disc being played HAS NEVER BEEN an issue for me. I don't have ADHD either though, so I am able to stay engrossed enough in the movie I am watching that I HAVE NEVER NOTICED OR BEEN DISTRACTED by the flashing light (even in a darkened room!), so don't let this dissuade you from buying this unit. GET A LIFE (or some Ritalin) IF THIS BOTHERS YOU!

Note that JVC sells and markets this first and foremost as a DVD player, albeit one that can play a wide variety of formats. For those of you who want more of a "pure" CD player because you will be mostly playing CD's and want a "true" random play setting, GO BUY A DEDICATED CD PLAYER! Same goes for those of you who plan to use a DVD player to mostly show your photos, if the photo load times bother you, then go buy a dedicated device whose main function is to do that. JVC has added those as a convenience, but it isn't the main purpose of this player. For most people this unit will do a fine job of replacing your CD player as well.

For the reviewer who had several disks get jammed, etc... my 2 year old unit has NEVER jammed and I don't find the unit to be "prone" to jamming whatsoever and I use it quite frequently and often am changing discs while one is playing. I suspect that any jamming that occurs is more related to problems with the "user" than the unit. I am sure impatience and not seating a disc correctly will cause jams in ANY multi-player unit.

Some reviewers have complained about the DVD-Audio connections/confusion. Had you thoroughly researched before your purchase, you would have found the answer to this. If you go to the JVC website (as I did, and I do for ANY manufacturer of equipment that I am thinking of buying), you would have found this info.

To sum it up, this unit has been superbly reliable in the time I have owned it (which is why I bought a 2nd one). It has superb audio and video output. I recommend this to anyone looking for a multi-disc DVD player (with the ability to play CD's and the other formats it lists).

I just purchased this dvd player and it works beautifully. I tested with various types of discs, CDR/W, JPEG, DVD-R's which I burned, audio cds and not to mention DVD movies and all worked fine. I especially like the 3D Phonic sound function. Some complain that the machine is noisy, there might be some noise but it is not excessive. As for the flashing light which some complain about which lets you know which disc is playing at the time being bothersome, it really is not. After all, you are looking at the tv screen and you should not be looking at the dvd player anyway!!! The picture quality is great and also the JPEG picture quality is amazing!! I saw detail that I had never saw before, it might take 25 to 30 seconds to load the photo which is really not alot but the detail is truly amazing!! This is really a good player which I would recommend in the silver color because silver gives it a sleek, space-age look rather than the same old tired black. Don't be afraid of this player, try it you will like it!!! I have not tried the dvd audio feature of this machine but if that is as good as all the other features I am sure I will like that too!

Great Quality, but not for MP3 or JPEG.......2003-06-21

I bought this DVD Player after trying quite a few other brands, and it is by far the best looking, and best build quality. DVD and music CD playback are excellent and there are a lot of nice features for setting up the display, etc.

However, one main reason for buying a new player was to view JPEG photo CDs, and listen to MP3 audio CDs. This player is not good for either: it does not recognize the ID3 tags in MP3 audio files and fails to play any file containing them (so, if you've ripped any audio in the last year or more you've got to start again). Also, it is extremely slow in displaying JPEG photos, although it seems to be one of the few players to load the photo at full resolution (so if you zoom in you see a lot of detail). Load times for a 4M-pixel photo are about 20 to 30 seconds! You could choose to re-burn all your photo CDs at lower resolution, but why not just buy a player that shows them faster?

Best for MP3 or JPEG: Toshiba SD-2900 or Samsung 5-disc changer. I ended up returning the JVC even though I liked it for so many other reasons, and bought the Samsung instead - it doesn't look as nice, only holds 5 discs, but it displays JPEGs faster, and plays every single MP3 song I have.

do not hesitate with this player, unless you want to use only as random player at parties as it can only play randomly from one disc at a time. the only drawback from this player is that it is noisy switching from one disc to another, however i don't change discs in the middle of a movie so no big deal. the picture and sound on this player is easily twice as good as my previous toshiba player, which failed after about one year of infrequest use. don't hesitate because of other reviews here, i couldn't be more pleased with the performance of this player, and for those that complained about the display being too small, there is a display button on remote to view the display on the television, and also it DOES let you switch between time remaining, etc. on the counter, as one reviewer stated that he returned this unit because it didn't. maybe he should read the manual first. just felt i had to write a review to counter all the negative reviews here which i don't understand. this unit plays all formats including DVD AUDIO, and does it flawlessly.

As others have mentioned here, I bought this unit to record in digital format, to have a small unit, easy to use and high quality audio recording. It does all that very well. If you are looking for more features, this is not the unit for you, but if you want long battery life with high quality audio in a small package, this is for you.

Failed Twice.......2001-09-01

While I like the operation, the size, the shape, etc., I don't like the fact that I've replaced it twice. Unit A1 failed and I mailed it for warranty replacment. Being addicted, I ordered another right away; figuring that it's an electronic device and [things] happen. I figured wrong. Unit B1 has now failed in the same manner. Unit A1 was replaced promptly. I'm now using Unit A2, and have returned Unit B1 for replacment. But I have no confidence. I'm buying another, different, unit. Unit B2 and probably Unit A2 can be emergency backups.

Simple, compact, good microphone.......2000-12-27

If you believe in the 80/20 rule (80% of the work gets done by 20% of the functionality), then you'll go for this recorder. I could write a long list of the things it doesn't do. For example, it doesn't have message folders, no date/time stamp, no automated voice activitation, etc.

What it does do is provide one of the smallest, really useful notes recorders around. It really does slip in your pocket. It just seems to naturally fit in your hand for those quick notes of brilliance that hit you while driving down the road. It has high quality electret condensor microphone that seems to be very sensitive. Its tiny speaker is good for speech but doesn't have much volume. It comes with a good earphone. However, don't record with the earphone plugged in! It monitors what you say and there is a slight delay from the time you speak to the time you hear it in your earphone. It will drive you crazy!

This recorder is not for everyone. You really have to have a focus on its positive attributes, but if those are your hot buttons, you'll love it.

I bought this 128MB flash drive a month ago because of its low price and because I don't need something as big as 256MB. So far this SanDisk 128MB Cruzer Micro has done the job. It's really fast with USB 2.0 and works just fine with USB 1.1. I've also used it with both WinXP and Mac OS X. I have had no problems.

Cruzer Micro Disappointment.......2005-03-27

I got my Cruzer Micro in Sept. of 2004. It worked beautifully until 6 months later, then half of my files became corrupted on the disk. I did some research on this and found out that it has also happenend with other 128mb cruzer micro flash drives. I have also read that San Disk will charge you a $40 fee for a program that is supposely supposed to reformat the drive. This is going into the garbage and I am sticking with a new brand.

Rugged and Reliable.......2005-01-04

This is my first flash drive and I am very impressed with this device. I'm currently a college student and use the flash drive for my computer programming class. I'm working on a semester-long project at home and school so it's very important that I have a reliable device.

Firstly the Micro is a very durable piece of equipment. Despite several drops and bumps I've had no problems at all. It's rubberized coating seems to help with this as well. It's size is fairly small so there is no problem carrying it with you and it can be hooked to a keyring or the included neck strap.

The file transfer speed is very fast. Larger files may take several seconds but smaller file transfer is almost instantaneous. The 128 MB size is fine for my purposes right now, but with price drops I will probably go for the 256 or 512 version on my next purchase.

The Micro has a bright blue LED light that is on constantly and flickers when the drive is in use. This light is very helpful in reminding me to stop the device before removing it. There are two different caps included and unlike other reviewers, I've never had a problem with them popping off.

Overall I'm very happy with this flash drive and will look to SanDisk again when I need another one.

Worked great for about 6 months.......2002-05-13

I loved this thing when I got it and used it every day during my train commute to and from work. It worked fantastic ... the sound was awesome and it was more than loud enough with the sony headphones I bought for it. I recommend buying aftermarket headphones since the headphones that come with it are big and [crazy] looking and don't sound too great. Then all of a sudden one day the headphone jack (where you plug the headphones in) just stopped working. For a while if I twisted the little plug the right way it would work, but then it just stopped working alltogether. I tried three other pairs of headphones including the ones it came with, and none of them worked. Hopefully mine was an isolated case, but I don't think I would ever buy this again.

This player has excellent bass and sound quality, won't skip and will run on batteries reasonably long; which is a shame because it just might scratch your CDs. After owning it for 6 months, the player started abruptly stopping (and shutting down) in the middle of tracks. The lens also began to make circular scratches on the CDs it played - very irritating indeed (this is usually the sign of a very cheaply make CD player). I never rocked it around or dropped it, or did anything that would cause this - it just started happening on its own. Now I have to replace it AND one of the music CDs that got quite a bit of playtime, and you can bet I'll not go with Philips again.

This CD player NEVER SKIPS!!!!!.......2001-09-21

I bought this cd player a week ago and it is simply the best personal cd player I have ever used. The sound is grate (as long as you use some other hedphones than the ones suplied in the box) The battaries last for ever. But, best of all it will not skip I shook the thing untill it spun backwards and I never herd it skip. So, for the price you can't pass this one up.

this cd players is the best i have ever had. its looks good. nice blue color. the esp works great from what i have experienced. also the bass is great with two different levels. the only drawback of this cd player is the included headphones. invest some money in some good headphones and it sounds great! if you have the money and are looking fo a cd player buy this one. believe me you will love it period.
