This little thing works excatly like a floppy disc or CD-RW. When you plug it in, an F: drive is instantly created and opened. You can store any type of file - just like with CDs. The files are transfered much faster than floppys or CDs, though. If you have songs or word documents saved, you don't need to copy them to the hard drive to open or play them - they'll play right of the jumpdrive.

This thing is cool. I keep it on my keychain - it's not much larger or heavier than a carkey - and take it everywhere. If I'm at a friends house and he has a cool picture that he's taken, I can instantly get a copy for myself. Or I can save songs, and play them on someone else's computer. If you use more than one computer, this is even better. You can save things you're wroking on to this drive, and then have access to them wherever you go. Or, if you share a computer, this is sweet, to. You don't have to store your documents where anyone can find them - you can keep them on your keychain.

Which leads to the next point. You can password-protect a certain portion of the space on your jumpdrive - you choose how do divide the private and public sections.

So in conclusion, this thing is cool.

This great little tot serves me in several ways. I use it a work with out-of-date computers using Win 98, and with the downloadable driver, and can easily transfer from home on my Vista and Win XP. I don't know if the 1G or larger Lexar is a Firefly or will work or not, but I cannot use the SanDisk or Toshiba 1G flash (nor find a Win 98 driver for them). But for what I do, even backing up the 75MGs of office files and leaving that little Firefly at work in case the old Win 98 crashes again, the Firefly is neat and most usuful, as it can back up my 10 office directories of about 75MGs in about 10 minutes at work, where it used take several hours on the ten floppies -- gosh, that is a savings. Lastly, as you can see in the picture, the clip part that goes on your key chain STAYS on the key chain, so you can leave the Firefly in the computer and still use your keys, unlike the others. With most, you have to leave your keys attached and/or even lose the cover (though such could be safer). But at 12-14 bucks, and when transfering non-critical and convenince files, it is nice to leave it where you put it and NOT have your key chain attached.

The best flash drive I've used........2006-04-25

Pros: It's sturdy. No lie, I just washed and dried mine, without cap, in a campus washer and dryer and it's plugged into my computer and there are no visible or "usability" effects.
The security software is very usable and the encryption software works on files not on the drive.

Cons: To my knowledge, there is no way to auto-load the security software, which can be an annoyance.

If you need a drive with security software, this is a great choice.

256 MB JumpDrive Secure II.......2006-03-15

I use this jump drive every day at school. I have all of my class stuff, the ZSNES Super Nintendo Emulator, Games, and the USB version of the Opera web browser on it and it's only a little over 25% full. I have the cap connected to my keychain, so it makes it harder to forget. It's pretty scuffed up from being ground against and thrown around with my keys all day, but it continues to work fine.

I never thought this Jumpdrive would be so cool to own! I am glad I finally own one! Not only is it a great backup (OUTSIDE of the computer), it's a perfect way to take files with you on the road, bring files or images to a friend's house, work, etc, or transfer images in the SAME ROOM! How can you email 250MB? It'd take forever. I just put all the files/images on the drive, hand it over, and they have the files instantly. It's an attractive storage device too. I wouldn't pay $60-70 for this item, I got it on ebay for $39 brand new. So far it looks durable, effective, & easy-to-use. I'm happy!

No matter what OS you're in, it'll work fine. I am using Win XP and put some images on the JumpDrive and handed it to my husband who uses Mandrake Linux and he plugged it in his USB port and the files showed up instantly. No drivers, installation, or B.S. JUST WORKED!

And this is USB 2.0 so it's fast. Even copying files over in 1.1 mode was quick. When I look at available space on the drive it says there's 245MB possible. So the drivers took about 11MB of space. No big deal, if I need every MB, I would have gotten the 512MB, but in my opinion this is a perfect amt. of storage for me, for now.

I've lost many files and images over the years (almost lost our wedding pictures, OMG!!), it won't happen again!!! Thanks to this Jumpdrive, and my DVD/RW.

Better options available, but not a bad purchase.......2004-06-08

The 256MB 2.0 Jump/Flash Drive from Lexar Media certainly gets the job done, however I wouldn't advise spending more than $60 on it. It has no password protect feature, and, depending on how old the model you are looking at is, some don't even have a write-protect feature. This model comes with drivers that automatically download when you first plug it in, however formatting is not automatic, plus, you will have to download seperate drivers off the internet if you are a Windows 98 user. The supplied drivers take up a little more than 11MB, so the capacity of the drive is actually in the range of 244MB, but that should suit most people fine. It's not a bad item, but I advise you to look around before making your purchase.

The old record player - back in service.......2007-03-12

This product allowed me to connect my old turntable to a new amplifier - as you know if you are reading this, they don't make the 'phono' inputs on amps any more. Just plug it into AUX you say! Sorry - you need a device to amplify the turntable output to line level as well as to process it to the correct standard. This device does this - it is powered (requires an AC outlet) so no worries about batteries. It is light and unobtrusive - once you get it connected you never need think of it again. You might get a hum, if you do not have a ground terminal to connect to the thin wire coming out of your turntable. They don't put those on the amplifiers any more either. I found that if I connected the ground wire to the red audio input jack on this pre-amp that the hum completely disappeared. I just slipped it inside the red RCA cable when I pushed it onto the preamp, and it's a very snug pressure fit. It's not going to fall out.

I bought this thing to connect my old Technics turntable to my component CD Recorder. While it works as advertised, the assembly was a bit shoddy - to wit: The guts (including both sets of RCA connector jacks) were inadequately secured to the body shell - making connection a very dicey matter. With some perseverance and a pair of needle nosed pliers, I was able to get things connected, but a lot of swearing was involved in the process. If any children or pets had been nearby, they would probably have been scarred for life.

Once the connections were made, the unit operated as it was intended.

I purchased this item for a customer of mine. I did the installation and it worked flawlessly. Haven't heard back from the customer so all must be well. When you get in a bind with a receiver that has no phono input..this is the gadget. No need for more expensive types unless you're doing high quality re-recordings or something of that nature.
