This Zyxel router was easy to set up and allows us to be online with a laptop, a desktop and a PS3 for online gaming with no slow-downs. I also have the Zyxel Zyair USB adapter for my desktop and it works very well.

I set up my Zxyel X-550 in minutes (I used an Ethernet connection to my desktop, and was planning to connect wirelessly with laptop), and all seemed well through the installation process. Then I tried to connect with my laptop, and even though it could "see" the connection, it could not connect, nor could it diagnose the problem.

I spent a lot of time on the phone with Zyxel tech support covering all of the most obvious possible problem areas. Eventually, the rep told me that my unit was probably defective, and that the next step would be to send it back for replacement.

But I'm stubborn, and I remembered that another reviewer mentioned a MAC address problem. So I poked around in the online admin interface for the router (instructions for accessing this program are included with the router), and lo and behold, MAC filtering was enabled! This meant that any computer whose MAC address wasn't listed couldn't connect.

I'm a reasonably savvy computer user, but not a techie, so I had to Google "what is my MAC address?" to find out how to locate it on my laptop(you can do this via the DOS prompt--Google it yourself, and you should find instructions easily). I entered the MAC addresses of both my laptop's wireless adapter and Ethernet adapter into the online admin program, just to be safe; I probably really only needed the wireless adapter.

As soon as I did that--voila! I had a connection!

So if you're having a problem similar to mine, try this first before you send in your unit for an exchange.

Great Router.......2007-09-13

This router was easy to set up and easy to work with. I have purchased other routers and found this one to be the easiest to deal with. The instructions were clear and short and I got this router up and running in about 20 minutes.

Haven't had a chance to check the range on this router so I can't comment on that. Otherwise I had no problems with this item and would recommend it to others.

I absolutely LOVE this router!!!.......2007-09-11

I spent several days and many hours of the days after setting up my linksys router and trying to get it set up for a secure connection. I finally just left it as unsecure and it worked well for a month or two then continually was dropping it's connection. Then I decided to look into a new router. I read the reviews on the Zyxel X-550 Xtrememimo Wireless Router and decided to see if there was any hope in actually being able to set up a secure network. When I got it I read through the simple instructions and in under an hour I had the network set up and secure and had all 3 computers on the network set up with the security code and everyone was online. This router and the software included in it are absolutely amazing and completely simple. I would even be willing to bet that someone who has no knowledge of networks or limited computer skills could set this router up just as easy as I did. I LOVE IT!

Does what it says and very well........2005-08-08

After only 3 years of service, my Linksys BEFSR81 was starting to cr*p out on me. It having become afflicted with seizures and advanced stages of Alzheimer's, I decided to put it into retirement.

I tried a newer Linksys BEFSX41, and unfortunately the firmware was so unstable I thought that the BEFSR81, by now bumping into walls in the corner, would be a better choice.

I accidently came across the ZyXEL P-334W while in a CompUSA and though, "For $29, even if it's a little slow, I could use it when traveling and staying in hotels."

I don't use the wireless component because I have a WAP upstairs and the ZyXEL sits in the basement.

The P-334W is _amazing_ as a home router! It is much faster than the BEFSR81 with various speedtests clocking in at about 4Mbps over the nearly 3Mbps the Linksys unit had.

The P-334W has support for management via a web interface or telnet, if you like using a character-based menu screen. And if you are a real CLI-nut like me (I use Cisco IOS all day and night so you know I am into the keyboard-PAIN) this unit even has it's own CLI you could use for configuration and management.

If you are used to other vendor's OSs then is does take a bit to get used to the nomenclature within the system but it's not impossible.

It has a firewall which works great and I've set it up to send me morning reports about any unusual activity. This makes remote troubleshooting much easier since forewarned is forearmed ("yes, honey, I know you are having problems and everything should be ok now -- try it again.")

The 2-IPSec VPN tunnels are not too difficult to setup (GOOGLE can help you find various tutorials in addition to ZyXEL's) but I wish I could VPN to the whole inside network instead of just an address on the inside network. This appears to be an industry standard in capability and I guess I should really complain for under $50; LAN VPN capability would run in the hundreds of dollars with any other vendor or even ZyXEL's higher-end boxes.

It also supports DynDNS so I can easily get back to it while I'm on the road.

So, it does everything it said it would. It does it very fast, and it's not terribly hard to make it do those things. Compared to some other products I've seen, this definitely earns the 5 stars.

Now, if only someone would make a consumer/home SSL-tunnel appliance that will let me VPN using TCP port 443 (and not requiring GRE and other protocols that often get firewalled-out) for under $100, I would be a happy camper.

This is a great monitor, better than you will see in the usual computer chain stores (they claim not to have heard of it). We have one of the early digital graphics cards in our computer but ran into incompatibility of the plug (different DV standards exist)and have had to go analog because of it. Check your DV plug if you are buying it for that purpose. We had a one pin difference that caused the problem. I like it as well as my 21 inch CRT at work. Looks good as part of the work area, nice asthetics. Can't go wrong here. I researched the specs a year ago when I bought it, checked the reviews, and it remains a standout even a year later.

Excellent in DVI mode, okay in analog........2002-06-09

I first connected this monitor to my old analog VGA card. It looked good, but the text looked very "anti-aliased", which is to say that the edges were a bit soft. I went out and purchased an NVidia card that had a DVI output, and connected the Samsung to that. What a difference! This is what computing should be about. The 17" monitor is big enough so that the native 1280x1024 resolution is very usable. Fonts are easily readable, and this is so crisp I can hardly go back to a CRT when I go to work every day.

If you need to use an LCD in analog mode, look at Viewsonic instead. Their analog to digital translation has always been great. However, if you can get a DVI video interface on your PC, this is the monitor to have.

I use this monitor under RedHat 7.3, and it works great.

breathtaking.......2002-03-22

Not much to say. The screen is breath-taking. You must run it with 1280x1024 resolution, since that's how many pixels it has. Otherwise it tries to scale things, and the first thing to go is the text.

The screen seems huge. It has low power consumption. It turns on instantly, so you don't wait for it to warm up like a CRT. It installed effortlessly on Windows ME and then again on Windows XP.
