Good basic travel radio........2005-06-28

I picked up this radio on an impulse purchase for about 40 bucks. My job takes me all over North America, so I wanted to have a radio that I could use for AM, FM and SW listening, but I didn't want to lug around something bulky and/or expensive.

This radio is one of the very few SW pocket portable models you'll find that still uses analog tuning. While it does mean that you don't know what exact frequency you're receiving until you get a verbal confirmation, I still sometimes prefer to tune through the bands using an old-fashioned analog dial.

It features a two zone clock -- one for local time, and one for world time. That's handy for fast calculations of when a particular station is broadcasting. The alarm feature is easy to use, and there's a 60 minute sleep timer as well.

Sound is decent (what can you expect, really?) from the small speaker, and pretty good when using the supplied earbuds. You can even listen to FM stero through them.

Sensitivity seemed best (to me) on FM, AM (or MW) seemed a little noisy, but that may have just been due to interference. Strong SW stations came through loud and clear. I attached a 23' wire antenna to the whip, although it's not a necessity.

Bottom line: This is a nice little radio with good performance for the price. It's not intended for daily or serious SW listening. For that I would recommend the Grundig S350 or YB400PE (among others.) The size makes it very easy to stick in a briefcase, and it's easy to use.

Good little traveling companion.......2004-07-20

Hi folks , Vince the radioman with another review for you . I've been a buff for many years and have a large collection . I love to do side by sides . This is a pretty decent radio for the money . It is analog , but the tuner selectivity and sensativity are surprisingly good . It has a digital clock and alarm specially designed for the traveller ( ...separate world time and EZ time zone adjustments). Its good on battery life( 3 AA ) and is lightweight .It has FM stereo and a DC adaptor jack . The sound is ok through the built in speaker and not bad through the phones . It is far better than the Sony SW12 , which is overpriced , the controls are too small ,there is only and ear phone jack no FM stereo and no DC jack. Sangean did not fall into this trap .....it has all the bells and whistles needed when traveling .The PT633 covers most SW bands with an emphysis on listening to the big broadcasters . This radio is about half the price of the SW12 ....no comparison , this is the little traveler you want with you on those long trips. Buy it!

i had buy the PDR-M5 tow days ago, and i can give a positive oppinion about it. For 799,95$, it's the best digital camera that you can buy. It's a real toy... for adults only! It's easy to use, a five year old child could take many good picture,and , if you want something of more professional, the PDR-M5 is for you too, you can realize some very professional picture. I know what i say, i'am a fashion photographer.

was let to think that this was 802.11b/g, but it is only 802.11b, which limits speed to 11 Mbs, not exactly the speed I was looking for. Also, the software isn't seamless, you have to run the software, and pick the connection you want each and every time, adds to startup time. I could have done better....

The signalmax works as is supposed to be. I have 67% of signal where the my laptop built in wifi doesn't have any and it's quite cheap.

First of all,

the cd with the drivers didn't work.
When i downloaded the drivers from there website, it gave me an amateur impression.
The product though does what they say, if you can get connect to the network first. You can get connected if you are in normal paramaters ( first 100 meters). if you move then, no problem, you can internet, but you can't connect if you get disconnected.

Maybe the product does more with there router, but I doubt it.
I don't want to return the item because they do what they say, you get a longer range, and that's all about that, but if you can choose for a repeater of the signal or this product, then i suggest an repeater.

If the price was a bit lower, then i really suggest this product, but it isn't worth the amount of money

Hardware good, software not ready for prime time.......2005-05-05

After about 5 hours of work with the installation software, I find these problems:
1) A user must have Windows ADMIN RIGHTS to use the network connection. This is a problem in a house with kids, or similar situations. I've confirmed this limitation with their tech support, and will be returning the product because of this.
2) The software doesn't load and recognize the connection automatically. You have to click on the icon to get it going, rather than making startup seamless.
Seems to be great hardware, but the firm is small compared to vendors like Cisco, so it seems software development may not be up to par.

Great Signal.......2005-01-15

I've struggled with picking up my Linksys wireless router signal when 3-4 rooms away. I've tried a Linksys booster as well as high gain antena but got only a marginal increase in reception. That all changed when I installed this card. I now get a "verry good" or "excellent" signal from anywhere in my home. I can even get a good signal from my back yard, 1/2 an acre away from my house! The trick is to configure the card precisely per the directions and not to allow windows to install it automatically.
