Rare Olympus Smart Card.......2007-07-24

Not many of these older memory cards available for purchase as I have recently discovered in having to replace a mortally wounded card. It happens! Replacement costs are spectacular! Olympus Digital Camera C-4040ZOOM (and others) are much too useful, even as utility cameras, to sit around, unused, due to dearth of memory cards. Digital camera ownership is much too expensive to justify one's falling prey to exhorbitant replacement costs due to predatory obsolescense practices. Olympus is here taking blatent advantage of its customers. I suppose that from this point on I must carefully venture into other photo markets to seek-out (hopefully), lesser predatory venues. I am now on my third Olympus digital camera, the last two digital SLR's, wondering now to what extent Olympus will support these expensive purchases over their predictable lifetimes.

I use this my set of Yamaha DTXtreme IIS elecrtonic drums. While I haven't yet attempted to load new sounds into it & thus load them into my drums, I have used it to upload the newest firmware. So far, so good. Shipping was quick & hassle free. Product was packaged nicely.

It is the best LCD monitor.......2004-04-22

I bought this 3 months ago, and until now, I compare my monitor with other monitors.
There were LCD monitors from hitachi, dell, ... at similar price range. (a few bucks difference.)
This one is brighter than anything else, and crip image is out of question. Well, the exactness of color is not as good as hitachi. The problem looks like it becomes to bright.
The brightness is so good that you can read text easily under the direct sunlight and you cannot even look at the monitor at the maximum bright in a dark room.
The countereffect is that at the maximum brightness, and contrast, light colors tend to be brighter than it should be.
(dell was not as bright as this, and colors had more severe problems)
Of course if you loose contrast and dimm the monitor, it is ok.
But in 99.9% of my monitor work, I do not need the original color. I prefer the comfort of my eye that comes from crisp bright monitor.
When I need to edit photos, I simply change settings of the monitor a little bit. (well, I did it just once in 3 months)

My conclusion. it is the best monitor you can get at the price.
If you have more money, buy bigger monitor. The quality difference is not at all noticible even if you spend $200 more.

Upgrading 19" from 17" LCD was real fun.
So I hope I can buy 21" from samsung very soon.
(if the price drops less than $600 )

Useable but annoying flaws.......2007-01-10

The device works, sort of. It loses the correct IP address if you place it as a favorite so you have to manually connect and disconnect a computer to the printer. Not seemless, or transparent. Also, it won't work with Windows 98. At least you can generate a spool directory to hold your printouts until you can get connected. It's tolerable for a home network, but I wouldn't put up with it in a business environment.

Personally, I don't find it that much of an improvement over hanging the printer off of a computer on our local network except that we have the spool directory.

Not compatible with HP LaserJet 3015..........2005-10-21

I had a similar experience with the reviewer here. It has a much more stable driver than the KeySpan USB (4-A)'s, but it simply is not compatible -- even with a brand like Hewlett Packard! It can sometimes recognizes the printer but can't print, scan, or fax.

This gadget is supposed to act as a USB device server, meaning you're supposed to be able to access ANY USB device connected to it, over the network from any networked PC (on the same subnet). Neat.

The hardware itself and software is very good-- very stable. Connected to a LAN, you can set the IP address manually or via DHCP. There's a client software that you install on your pc, which then connects to the usb server and lists all usb devices connected to it. You can either connect or disconnect the device virtually to your pc.

This all sounds great, but it doesn't work with ALL USB devices. You need to check Silex's compatibility list and see if your device is in it. This list is very short -- too short for me to get any usefulness out of it.

Everything else-- ease of use, software, installation, etc-- gets a 5 star.
