Olympus makes GREAT digital cameras, but their recorders are to die for, especially when you interview someone and get back to the newsroom only to discover that while the tape was moving, the condenser mic had decided to go South on you and the only sound you hear is the motor and a weak, faraway voice. Cleaning and demagnatizing the heads didn't work for me, either, so buy a recorder with a blinking red light that indicates what you're recording is what you're getting.

For interviews, spend the extra money and get a super quality product.

Olympus Microcassette Recorder.......2002-12-29

I purchased this product and found that it was of relatively poor construction quality. After reasonable normal use the cassette door hinge broke. I elected not to send it back for repair as my need for this equipment passed, but I was surprised that such a key element of the recorder would be so fragile.

Only Okay.......2002-11-27

I was given this as an unexpected & thoughtful gift, but after working with it a bit, I don't think I'd chose the Olympus again. One basic design flaw is that it doesn't stand up very well on it's think rounded base. You can balance it, but it will topple over at the slightest disturbance. I compared it with my friend's Panasonic RN505 which is substantially heavier, but has a bigger, better speaker & is more stable. When I played my tape on her machine it seemed as if the microphones on both were comparable.

I use minicassette recorders on interviews a lot, and this one is a great recorder for the price. It's small enough to fit in a shirt pocket (and nicely slim as well), and the ergonomics are good: easy to play back, fast-forward, etc. It has all the basic controls you need. I can't speak for the sound relative to others, but for voice, it's more than good enough. It picks up voices quite distinctly even in a relatively noisy environment. I also like the battery indicator, so I always know when I need to bring extra batteries, which last a pretty long time. I also can't speak for reliability, but I've had no problems in the six months I've been using it. The only caveats are that the microphone/earphone jack is smaller than ones used by other recorders, so you need an adapter or a mike/earphone with small plugs, and that it doesn't come with an AC power supply. But overall, it's great.

Buyer Beware.......2001-12-11

I am not sure if it is my usage of this recorder, the tapes I put in it or the batteries. My recorder doesn't work anymore. The features on it are good, and it is certainly an attractive recorder. While it did work, I had absolutely no complaints. Unfortunately it isn't working now (and I have complaints).

If I had to purchase another mini-recorder, I would go with a bigger name brand, just to be safe. It may cost extra money (as in a few measly bucks) but it is better to pay five more than replacing a whole new recorder.

Lawyers will like the cassette recorders (and micro ones) but for the average person, I might even venture to suggest purchasing a digital recorder. Give it some thought, but whatever you do, be careful before you buy this one. I would not recommend it!

Excellent storage -use it with my Jam Cam. Small, yet very reliable. Viking makes an excellent product. Good for about 50-60 pictures (640*480).

Not Compatable at all with Jam MP3.......2002-03-14

Not real familar with multimedia cards, I read & read. Viking stated it was compatable with Jam MP3 player and several other MP3 players. I ordered the Viking Multimedia Card 16MB. My son has tried and tried to get his songs to download on this card, in fact he has used up several batteries trying to do so. I feel this is not a good MMC for MP3 players. The manufacture suggested only Sandisk, I think it's wise to use the manufacture's suggestions regardless of what others might say. I'm really disappointed that I have spent my time & money on a card that obviously was misrepresented.

Not sure what problems the other reviewer was having, but I bought this for my Jam Cam 3.0 and it works beautifully. Great price, great quality. You have to insert it while the power for your camera is off, then turn power on for it to be recognized. Maybe this is why the other persons didn't work??? Once it's in you are good for 69 high resolution pics, much better than 8!

The Viking MMC16M Multimedia Card is one of the best values on the memory market. I purchased it to triple the amount of RAM in my new Palm M505. Installation was a snap. There is no formatting necessary. Just click the card in the Palm and perform a hotsync. The Palm recognizes the card automatically.

The Multimedia Cards are about half price per MB of the SD cards. The only draw back to the MMC cards is that they are slower than the SD cards. There is a noticable lag when accessing applications stored on the MMC.

If you want more room for pics and e-books or applications and files where speed is not a concern, the MMC cards are your best value. But if you are looking for a way to store more games, I recommend dopping the extra coin for the SD cards.

It easy to operate. For those that wrote complaints that it was too easy to turn on by bumping the button, and then when you need it the batteries are dead. LOCK it. After draining a battery or 2. I learned to Lock it when I was done, that way there were no surprises when I needed it. I lock it when I'm working so I the station won't change accidentally, so I also lock it when I'm done.

I learned pretty quickly to operate it without looking.

I suppose the only complaint I have is that the headphones get pulled out periodically while working, and/or the belt clip gets bumped off (though it has been durable with many knocks and drops)

I'd give it 3 1/2 stars if I could

I was looking for something that could tune in to fm stations so I can listen to the tvs at my gym. I tried cheaper ones and ended up throwing them away. I haven't used the earphones that come with the radio as I have earbud headphones from Phillips. As far as the radio goes, the best things about this radio is the lock button so I don't accidentally change the channel, the six presets which I have each assigned to different tvs at the gym, the fact that it uses only 1 AAA battery and it lets you know how much battery is left. I'd say the only con is the clip which I have trouble clipping, but that's a minimal problem. This is exactly what I was looking for and it's perfect for me!

Great AM/FM/Weather and TV walkman.......2007-09-09

This walkman works great as most Sony products. It runs on 1 AAA battery for many hours. The sound quality is good and reception is great. The reception is comparable to a radio with a full antenna. I have used this unit for over a year and it is great. Even the headphones are very comfortable.
