Perfect Traveling Companion..........2007-08-18

This camera has met my expectations in so many ways. I should note I never really wanted to start looking for a new camera when I started looking for this one, but a camping trip (where I actually stored my camera in the tent!) sent my Canon to its grave. This was the second digital camera I'd lost to outdoor exposure. No more. I'm now a loyal Olympus fan.

Thus far, my Olympus has been through the rain and cloud forests of Costa Rica, through several feet of freshly falling snow in Romania, and on many a camping trip and trail. And I'm just as happy with it as day one.

The images are crip and clear, it fits perfectly in my jean pockets, and I like the fact that the lens withdraws within the camera to avoid scratches. Battery life has been outstanding. It seems to be such an issue with so many electronic devices, but I've found that I can take hundreds of pictures with my 810 without a hitch. Now that I think about it, on my recent trip to Romania, I was snapping away with the camera without an electric converter or spare battery and never ran out of batteries over my 11 days.

At first I was a little disappointed that I couldn't find a weatherproof camera with a viewfinder, but I've become very used to the LCD digital display as of late, and it hasn't proven a problem.

If there is one thing that I would like to change about this camera, it's the curved edges. Sure, they look good. But say you want to take vertically-oriented image in the middle of the night? You can't set the camera on a level surface with the curves edges on the sides (and you can't hold it in your hands, or the image will blur due to the long exposure), though you can shoot horizontally. I guess I could get a tripod, but this is a point-and-shoot camera...

And if the worst I can do is to complain about a camera's ability to shoot a particular orientation in the middle of the night...not bad, right?

Olympus Stylus 810.......2007-06-11

This camera got great reviews in Consumer Reports, and I'm sure it's perfect for some, but it's far too slow to get good pictures of active kids. The "weatherproof" feature would've been nice, but I exchanged it for something faster.

I think this camera is absolutely amazing. It takes wonderful pictures-I could not be happier. I got this camera to use on a trip to Mexico in early March. It is the perfect size, and extremely easy to use. With it being all weather proof, I was excited to bring my camera to the beach and the pool and not have to worry about the smallest bit of water ruining my camera.

All the different photo options that you have, makes it impossible not to get the right shot. Settings for beach/snow and portrait were perfect for taking pictures with my friends at the beach-obvioulsy, but they also allowed me to get some really gorgeous sceneic shots that will be a great addition to my portfolio.

Also, the camera makes it SUPER easy to organize and retreive your photos. I especially like the calendar feature which allows you to find pictures according to the day you took them-which was perfect for ordering my pictures after vacation. I am photo organization freak, and this made it that much easier!

I will say that it is extremely hard to see the LCD screen in bright sunlight. However, I bought some protectors that you just place right over the screen, and it is perfect. Some people may see this aspect of a deal breaker, but not me.

I think that anyone would be truly happy with this camera!

I am the type of person who actually reads all the reviews before I make a purchase, especially, on line.
I have been just delighted with my new 810 and the performance.
One of the reviews I read talked about the upgrade from the 800 to the 810 and the person was sorry that they did not wait for this new model to be released. I am sure glad that I read this review and acted on it. I am totally delighted with my camera in EVERY way. I love the large viewing screen and the feature where if my hand shakes the camera automatically compensates. This feature is great especially because I have taken many pictures in the past where this has been a problem.
I hope that others will read this review a enjoy the experience for themselves.

Good Camera.......2007-02-13

I have to say, after reading some of these reviews I don't agree. This is a great size camera that takes nice pictures. Toss it in a bag and go. I don't know of any Digital Camera that works like we ALL expect them too. This is a good camera for the money as well.

Olympus Stylus 800.......2007-01-19

VERY pleased with the product. Light weight, thin, not too bulky, large viewing screen, rechargable battery out lasts regular batteries, great pictures and movies with good sound. No problems, highly recommend. Decent price. Consumer Reports recommends as a "Best Buy".

Unreliable.......2007-01-18

The first Stylus 800 I got was defective, when powered on it went straight to an error screen. The merchant replaced it for free.

I've had my second Stylus 800 for 10 months. For the last couple months the lens cap has required coaxing to open or close. Last weekend it stopped opening altogether and I had to permanently remove the lens cap. So much for its water resistance, and I wonder how long the lens will survive with no protection.

Additionally, if I try to zoom, then it goes to an error screen and I have to cycle power to get it to work again.

Sometimes it takes photos at a lower resolution than I have it set to, I'm not sure why.

I also have difficulty pressing the power button when wearing gloves. A minor irritation.

An improvement ..........2007-01-16

... over the Stylus mu 410 and C-5500. As light and watertight as the 410, but with twice the resolution. Easier, far lighter, and with a better choice of automatic shooting programs than the C-5500, and with 60% higher resolution. This is our new hiking camera for 2007. The drawback: downloading into the nice, old Camedia program doesn't work well on a Mac G4, works more or less ok on PC with Windows XP. In both case you have to download 'from media' with camera attached. With the G4, high resolution doesn't go via email, necessary to scale down to 2500x2000 pixels. With a new Intel based MacBook Pro emailing via Camdeia was impossible in all cases, but when I installed the new software (Olympus Master) downloading was extremely fast (the PC can't keep up), and one can email the highest resolution photos quickly via Mac's Mail program, to which the new Olympia Master connects automatically (everything goes here via hi speed DSL, of course).

Very poor picture quality.......2006-12-15

I got this camera more than a year ago and the picture quality was so bad I took the camera back after a month. Pixilated, smeared, unsharp images is what I got. The camera store checked it (I bought it at their recommendation)and found it equally appaling. The gave me a replacement immediately. Although slightly better - it is still very poor and I have barely used the camera - finding the Panasonic FZ20 5 megapixel gives me far better results. I will never even consider an Olympus again.

Satisfactory CD Player.......2004-11-29

This CD player is pretty good, but not the best. First with the negatives, is guzzles up batteries SO fast that I bought a recharging kit for them. Its also not that easy to navigate around a 200 song MP3 CD. With multiple headphones, I started only getting sound out of only my left ear. The sound quality is satisfactory. The car kit is nice as well. It is pretty durable, I dropped it around 15 times from pretty high while working out until I started encountering problems. It stopped playing MP3 cds, and then one day it randomly stopped playing all CDs. It had a lifespan of around 10 months for regular CDs, and 8 for MP3 CDs. But it still might be working if I didn't drop it a lot. It was a good CD player but I will be buying another one this time, that is a little more expensive. Overall, it is a satisfactory CD player.

You Get What You Pay For.......2003-12-24

Not only is my LCD screen upside down, it's broken. What it's telling me upside down is gibberish. Even wih normal CDs. And I've tried using both versions of ID3 tags, it won't recognize either.

The sound quality is crap at it's very best (320kb/s Mp3s and $40 headphones), and it takes a good 10 seconds to switch tracks with the skip button. When you have 150 songs on a CD, and can't navigate by folder due to the LCD screen being broken, that's a big problem. It's also annoying to have a song end and wait 10 seconds before the next one starts.

The lid just unlocks and locks, you have to pull it up and push it down. When pushing it up, you have to push until it finds it's little groove, when it feels like it's going to break. It just feels cheap like it's going to break, makes you scared to operate it.

Also, the headpone jack is trash (for my headphones and the crappy ones that came with it). It doesn't fit the entire little prong in, it sticks out about 1/5th an inch if you push it in as much as you can, and if you do that, you'll only have left-channel audio. So you have to pull it out to the point where only about half the headphone prong is in the player, but really, the sound this player gives you isn't worth the trouble of just that.

It came with a card that says "Don't return this product to the store. Contact the helpful and friendly staff at SONICblue Custom Care". I suppose I'll be doing that, but I can't imagine them fixing the sound and lid problem, even if they can fix the LCD screen. I've bought many things online in the past years, and I've never been so dissatisfied with a product as I am with this player, even at this low price. Maybe the non-Coke SP50 is a better product, but I doubt it, they appear identical aside from lid design.

Very good product.......2003-02-05

I have a RioVolt CD/MP3 player, but it's not this one exactly. I just think the design is different. I have had my player for over a year and so far it has been perfect. I have not had it skip on me even while driving. So on that note, I am very satisfied with this product.

Quality CD at a Quality Price.......2000-06-11

I just bought this CD to try it out and i must say it has very good quality audio and it stores my data with no problem at all. I use this as a large floppy disk because if my friends want something i can burn it to this cd and if they want something else again i can just delete what it had on it and give it to them. As for music. Well i can burn my songs to it and if i get tired of the music it had i can just delete it and put in new music ^_^ A must have for anyone with a CD-RW drive!
