A Pretty Good Buy.......2003-05-16

When buying this camera, I had huge expectations. I previously had a canon, however it was getting a bit old. When I purchase a camera I look for one that is stylish as well as good quality. Many of my friends recommended olympus' cameras to me and so after much research I finally bought the Stylus Select 105. When buying this camera, I expected a top of the line pocket-sized camera. I half-got what I was expecting. It takes wonderful outdoor pictures which are very vivid and clear. However, in dark rooms or at night the pictures can get a little grainy and not as bright as I would want them to be. In the beginning, I tried using the nighttime features as well as the red-eye, however, DO NOT use it unless you have a tripod with you. The manual recommends a tripod, but I decided not to listen and tried it anyway. My returned pictures were blurry and awful. I couldn't even put them in my photo album they were so bad. But I'm much more careful now and don't even bother using the nighttime or red eye features. They're not even worth using unless you carry a tripod with you everywhere you go. Maybe the stylus select 105 did not live up to my expectations, but I do have to admit that it is very sturdy. Also, the camera case givin in the kit is horrible. Don't expect it to provide any protection. The stylus select 105 probably wouldn't need the protection, but I prefer to have some kind of padding protecting my camera even if it has an all-metal body.

This is such a good camera!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is so small, ALL-weather, metal body, a powerful zoom, a big LCD screen, and if that's not enough, it comes with a complete set that contains the camera(duuuh), a CR2 battery, a case, a strap, an extended warranty, and a remote control. What else can you ask for? Maybe you can say the zoom is actually not so good, but a lens of 38-105m, is actually a pretty nice zoom, because if you have a mega-zoom like 150 or something, you're never gonna use it!
If you are those who drop the camera very often, then this is your chance. A complete metal body so it won't be broken, and if you drop I mud it's all weather!
I extremely recommend this camera, besides, I don't know what happened to meubanks64 or something because it always takes sharp pictures with so nice colors.

Disappointing.......2003-02-07

I waited with much anticipation for this camera to be stocked after reading about it's new features in the press release in the fall. I purchased it as a gift for my wife for Christmas because our 6-year old Olympus Stylus Zoom 105 needed major repair. Our old camera took GREAT pictures - sharp, balanced exposures, great variable flash, etc. So, I had no problems buying another Olympus. I looked at the existing Olympus Zooms (115,140,170), but after comparing the pictures from my brother's Zoom 115 to our old Zoom 105, they still didn't seem as good. So I decided on the new Zoom 105.

Overall, the new Zoom 105 camera is significantly (~15%) smaller than the old one. I like the cool metal shell better than the old plastic one. I was hoping that the AF system was as good as or better than the old one since it claims to be a 'new 11-point multi-wide advanced combination autofocus'.

During an outdoor (daytime) event, we shot a whole roll of film using the new camera (fully-auto settings) in a variety of settings while my brother's wife used their Zoom 115. After comparing the pictures side by side (same processing), the shortcomings of our new camera are obvious. The pictures are VERY disappointing. The focus is not near as sharp as the old camera, or even the Zoom 115. The edges of the shots are much darker, also. We have taken several rolls in various environments all with roughly the same outcome. Perhaps we just got an early production-run lemon. For Olympus' sake, I hope so.

I have the base unit and two headsets. One for me, one for a guest. There isn't any form of sound that can't be reproduced on these babies. Certainly not as good as the best sets with cords - but here's a little freedom to go with your music!

Slow, SLOW and SLOWEST Shipping I've ever had.......2005-04-26

I'm not concerned with the actual product, but I chose the free shipping option and I guess somebody wanted to punish me for doing so as it took 35 days to get it from the day I ordered it. After 2 weeks, it said it was processing the shipment. Books I ordered the same day and with free shipping came 3 days later but no, not the switch.

Amazon didn't even bother to reply to my emails requesting to cancel this order since it didn't give the option for it. Had I know it was going to take this long I could have went and got a switch locally the same day for a few bucks more.

To me, this is a reflection of the product if I ever needed tech support (not likely since I'll just throw it in the trash and get one locally next time), as it probably would take days or weeks to get support if the shipping is this SLOW.

Yep, learned my lesson, don't buy anything hardware related from Amazon, just books as I've never had a problem with that.

Absolutely love this product! I hooked it up through my Bose and I had no problems with the mic quality after that. Cheap entertainment is exactly what I wanted and this is a lot of entertainment for the price. I have been singing for hours and am very satisfied with the quality, very sturdy. Somewhat tricky hookup but eventually figured it out.

Great karaoke player, bad DVD player.......2006-10-15

I got this karaoke unit for one reason and one reason only--because it had the ability to change keys. So many of my karaoke discs are just a few notes too high or low for me, and the idea of being able to change the key was very appealing. I have a key changer for audio tapes which basically speeds them up and slows them down to change the key, but I had never seen this feature with CDs. I also liked the idea that this model plays pretty much anything on a disc--CDs, CD+Gs, DVDs, picture discs, MP3, etc. etc. etc. (see the specifications!), but I really only needed it for the karaoke player.

So I got it and tried it out. The key change function works wonderfully. You have the capability to go up 16 keys or down 16 keys, so you can choose pretty much any key you want. The music does not speed up or slow down; it stays the same tempo. There is a little sound distortion once you get past 5 or so key changes on either side, but you're bound to find something within that that you can use.

Sound quality is as good as any other mid-priced karaoke player. The unit has all the regular features you'd find on a karaoke player--echo, mic volume, etc. The two included microphones are not the best quality. They are fine for home use, but if you want to record anything or sing in public, you'll probably want to buy a better mic.

As a DVD player, it's not so great. I am guessing that the synch problem must be hit-or-miss, as one of these reviews mentioned it and the other did not. I got a "bad" one I guess. The picture and sound are ever so slightly off. It comes and goes, so you might start a DVD out looking good, then 30 minutes into it the voices stop matching the pictures. For this reason I do not use it as my main DVD player. The fun thing about it is that the key change function works for DVDs as well as CDs, so you can amuse the kids by playing something with really high voices. Again, the action doesn't speed up; it just gets higher pitched. I have to wonder if this is responsible for the synch problem, as the sound can be manipulated without the vision changing.

There is another small problem in that the manual is poorly translated and doesn't contain instructions for half of the functions on the unit. You have to sort of mess around and figure things out through trial and error. This will be a problem if you want to use a bunch of weird features, but if you just want to play music, you'll be fine.

Bottom line: if you want a really great karaoke player, I would recommend this. If you expect to use it for DVDs, be prepared to be disappointed. It makes a good addition to an entertainments center so long as you have a backup DVD player. Use it for music alone and you'll be fine.

I purchased this DVd Player last year in hoidays and it works great no problems good picture quality no goasting no region problems It plays my all DVD's from UK on US tv plays PAL and NTSC without any problem also has very good sound Will paly Regions 1,2,3,4,5,6

I'm astonished by how bad this DVD player is. Yes, it plays DVDs from any region, but the "playback" is an immense problem that makes the item worthless.

First, the video and audio playback are completely out of sync. This may not matter to you if you're watching an imported film with subtitles, but watching any English DVD is a complete pain. The delay is about half a second or so, and it's impossible to correct.

Second, within 3 months of using this item (watching 3 or 4 DVDs a week), the eject mechanism failed. I had to unscrew the top, pop off the casing, and manually open the tray to remove a stuck DVD. This problem happened a second time, and I had to remove the springs which close the DVD "Eject" door. It gets stuck on half of my DVDs, which means I have to take a butter knife to the player, stick the knfe in to the eject gear, and rotate it until the tray comes out far enough that I can pull it all the way out. When I close the tray, it doesn't go all the way back in, so I have to nudge it with my finger tip.

Finally, the video resolution is such poor quality that you can see vertical lines on the creen from 7 or 8 feet away (on a 27" TV).

This DVD player fails in every respect. I'll toss mine in the trash once my replacement comes in the mail--I wouldn't Ebay this to anyone. I have no other experience with Daewoo products, but after this, I'd say buy from another company altogether.
