Optics and Resolution
The Stylus Verve features a four-megapixel CCD imager, which can gather enough information to create images approximately as large as 1,714 by 2,286 pixels. In other words, you'll be able to make photo-quality prints of your pictures at sizes up to 11 by 15 inches. The camera's 2x optical zoom lens--equivalent to a 35-70mm lens on a film camera--combines with a 4x digital zoom to simulate the power of an 8x zoom lens, but only at lower resolution settings.

Movie Mode
The Stylus Verve can capture short video clips with sound in the movie mode setting. This feature won't likely persuade anyone to abandon their camcorder, but it is a fun and convenient way to capture movement while you're out taking pictures. The amount of video the Stylus Verve can store is limited only by the amount of memory available.

High style, low performance; short life.......2007-02-19

I finally got the "card cover open" error that so many other users have gotten (see various web forums). That means I can no longer use the camera.

No great loss. I was getting pretty marginal results with it anyway. As a former E100RS owner, I was looking forward to excellent photos from the Olympus lens and CCD. But it was not to be, the lens/electronics combo is so slow that you need some sort of camera support or bracing for indoor, non-flash shots. Granted, this is just a simple pocket camera, but as such, it's a disappointment. Not up to the Olympus standard, IMO.

Problem with card cover.......2006-08-04

This was a great camera until it was out of warranty. Then at the most inopportune times "Card Cover Not Closed" would appear on the LCD screen preventing any further picture taking. I tried all types of tricks like removing the card and putting it back in until the message disappeared.

Eventually, my frustration sent me to the Eastern USA Olympus headquarters at Hauppauge, NY for service. Well, the flat rate was $80. I decided that it wasn't worth spending this much for a 4MP camera when for just a few more dollars I could get another camera with better features. Too bad I hadn't checked the Web before buying this camera as this card cover problem seems prevalent in any discussion I found concerning Olympus.

Good..but not very weather resistant.......2006-06-06

I bought my Olympus camera a year ago and thought it worked great. The pictures came out very clear and detailed. I took wonderful beach pictues, pictures of flowers, and sunsets with this camera and was very pleased with the results.

However, about 2 weeks after I recieved my camera, I went down to the beach at night and was taking some pictures. IT was a little windy so there was sand blowing. My lens cover from then on would not shut. I continued to take pictures and they still came out pretty good but eventually the quality began to decline. Since the lens cover no longer shut over the lens for protection, the lens got dirty and I am guessing damaged. I sent my camera to the company to see how much it wuold cost to repair and they said probably $105.00 which I thought was too much considering I could probably get a better camera from a little more.

If you are one of those people that are so protective of your camera that you won't let it near water, snow or sand then this camera is phenomenal. I would definetly recommend it; but if you are one of those people that like to get the scenic pics and risk getting the natural elements into your camera I would recommend something that is weather proof. A camera that I am thinking of getting is the Olympus Stylus 600 6MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom or the 700. It is weather proof which I think will make a big difference.

Good enough while software worked.......2005-12-31

I would agree with other reviews on this site that the camera takes good outdoor shots. It took some tuning to get indoor flash shots that were in focus but I figured it out - I have used non digital cameras for years. I was pleased with the features, though thought it a bit smaller than I needed. I bought it used from a friend. It did not have a mark on it. I took it on vacation.

After using the camera productively for several days, routinely swapping in recharged batteries or fresh memory cards, the following error message appeared on the screen - Card Cover Not Closed. But the card cover door was closed; the memory card and the battery were properly seated - and reseated, replaced, recharged, etc. I didn't solve the problem and could take no more pictures with it.

When I returned home, I sent it back to Olympus. It was out of warranty. They asked about $125 to repair it. Since there was no physical damage, the price seemed high - I am walking away from it unconsoled. Perhaps I will inspire one of you to buy something different. I am looking at a midpriced Cannon.

good little camera.......2005-12-10

Very functional and easy to use. The picture quality is excellent. The numerous modes for taking pictures is awesome. From being able to use it behind glass, at night, with beach or snow backgrounds, this is the only camera I have found that has 14 modes. The video quality is good also. For $300, you won't find a better digital camera. The battery is a little annoying as there appears to be no way to save date etc. when you have to take out the battery to charge it.

I can't believe the quality and usable distance of these headphones. I hear nothing but quality sound. I have heard no hissing and no fade. The controls are easy to use and the sensitivity makes whatever you're listening to, sound like your listening to it live.

Freedom, but at the cost of quality.......2005-05-05

Having snapped the cord on a previous pair of Sennheiser headphones, I decided to buy a wireless pair because I fancied the freedom of being able to trot around the house without restriction. The previous Sennheiser 'phones I've had have been tremendous, without distorting even at high volumes. These ones, however, are rubbish.

When not receiving an active signal (both headset and base are on, but no sound outputted from the amp), a constant hiss can be heard, and if the volume is turned up (and I'm not talking "loud" here - a moderate level) the speakers fart and spit in a quite frankly depressing manner. So, in between tracks you get crackling, during the track you get crapping. And then, at mid-range, the sound isn't very rich either.

Not very good at all, but, hey, they are cheap, so what do you expect? Either invest in a more expensive set, or stick to the wires.

RS 120.......2005-04-13

I bought these headphones in February and have greatly enjoyed them. I walk all over my house, single story 1700 sf and never have a problem. I use them mostly for TV and music. I have not experienced any reception problems or high pitched buzing like others have. I recommend these headphones.

The hissing will drive you mad!.......2004-12-25

I bought these headphones, hoping that they will allow me the freedom to move around the house while still being able to hear the stereo. These headphones do have great range: I was 50 feet from the base, with two walls of separation, and could still hear the sound as clearly as when I was right in front of the base. Unfortunately, the clarity of the sound, even when you're right next to the base, is not very good. A high-pitched whistle pierces my ears, and I just had to return the headphones. I don't recommend them.

The SLV-D550P fulfills the full potential of your DVDs thanks to its progressive scan function. Referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, progressive scanning creates a picture with twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving owners of high-definition TVs higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Audiophiles will appreciate the multiple sound options, including audio output for PCM, Dolby Digital, and DTS, and a virtual surround option that simulates surround sound effects from a traditional two-speaker stereo setup. Viewers can also choose from several aspect ratios that optimize the image to the TV's dimensions. 4:3 letterbox, for instance, displays the entire movie image on a traditional 4:3 TV with black bands along the top and bottom, while 16:9 is the ideal setting for a widescreen TV. Connections with combo units are often inconvenient, forcing you to use separate video hookups for each section (DVD, VCR), a problem for some TVs. This player has it figured out: a single RF or composite-video connection to a TV will display either the DVD or the VCR signal, depending on which format you're viewing. If you want to view DVDs in S-video or component video (either interlaced or progressive-scan), you will need to use two inputs, however, as the device will not upconvert the signal from the VCR to either of those higher-resolution formats.

It's a different deal for audio: you can listen through a single set of stereo analog audio cables for each component (one is supplied), or--if you want to enjoy DVDs in discrete 5.1-channel surround sound--you can send the DVD's audio to a compatible AV receiver and a multichannel speaker system through a digital audio interconnect (either optical or coaxial, not supplied). The unit also comes with an RF cable that will transmit VHS/DVD audio and video to your TV, a multi-lingual onscreen display (English, Spanish, French), and a multi-brand TV/DVD/VCR remote control.

Sony combo.......2007-05-23

This is the first Sony product that I've ever owned that I was truely disappointed with. Its DVD player makes a high pitched whirring noise when playing, and stops frequently during chapter changes. Also, if there is the tiniest of scratches or smudge on the DVD, it will skip, stop, or simply not play it. On the bright side, the VCR works perfectly. One other major gripe, if the power shuts off for half of a second, you'll need to reset the time which is a pain in the butt. I'm a Sony fan, but this one is a dud.

Caught on fire.......2006-11-03

I went to place a DVD in the tray. I pushed the eject button and nothing happened. I pushed it again and waited. then smoke started coming out of the tray area. I wanted people to know so they can be careful. I would personally take it back before something happens. Mine is in the trash. What a waste. It worked fine until then. I read the other reviews and I am not even going to bother calling Sony. I am going to report it to Consumer Report. Be Careful.

DVD died after 6 months.......2006-10-29

I bought this for my Dad since he still wanted the VCR option. Initially worked great. Then like so many others here have stated, the DVD died. I'm handy with electronics so I opened it up and nothing looked bad. My guess it that it was made with inferior parts and built with cheap labor. Hey SONY, this is what you get for outsourcing your manufacturing. Cheap Labor makes cheap quality. Too bad. We have older SONY products like tape decks, stereos, radios, etc that were built like tanks and they are still working (30+ years). Today, its not so with their products. I still buy Panasonic more these days. They seem to be one of the last strongholds. You pay more for Panasonic but their stuff is more durable; still have several old appliances from them to this day. We tossed the SLV-D550P for a Panasonic VCR-DVD combo. Only had one problem with the PROM that needed to be reflashed for the DVD. Called customer service and got excellent support. Gave over the phone diagnostic and sent us the CD to reflash the unit; simple procedure. Worked great ever since. Think SONY would ever do this for the average consumer? NO!

2 stars for the time period it actually worked.......2006-08-31

Now, after what appears to be a standard 9 month life expectancy, every DVD I put in the player now results in the message "Error". Actually, the VCR player still works great. I guess now I'm expected to be ghetto and buy a new DVD player and stack it on top of the broken one, so I still have a VCR player! I guess you can't even trust a name that has a proven track record of quality products. I know it will be more trouble than it's worth to try to fix it!

Piece of Junk.......2006-06-20

This player looked nice and had the name, but boy is it a piece of Junk. The DVD player takes forever to load a disk. It even takes forever just to eject a disk. PLUS it stopped working after just 4 months!!! I'll think many times before I buy a Sony product again.
