Digital velocity-modulated scanning is advanced circuitry along the neck of the CRT that senses transitions from black to white in the video signal. The black-and-white portions of the signal are sped up and slowed down, respectively, resulting in sharp black-to-white transitions. For a more filmlike picture when watching movies, you may want to selectively turn off this circuitry.

Other picture enhancements include a wideband video amplifier, horizontal and vertical edge correction, video noise reduction, Artificial Intelligence Picture settings, and a Progressive Scan Doubler function that upconverts 480i signals to seamless 480p resolution.

The set's ample connections also include four composite-video, three S-video inputs (including one each on the set's front panel for easy camcorder or game console hookup), and two sets of high-resolution component-video inputs.

The set uses three speakers: a stereo pair plus a built-in passive subwoofer for extra bass heft. 32 inch Panasonic PureFlat Screen.......2004-04-24

I am disappointed with the quality of this TV. I had a 27 inch Panasonic that received a much better picture. There is a line running vertical through the center of the TV, about an inch thick, which distorts the picture. When I increase the volume, white noise becomes very apparent. I am forced to run the TV sound through my stereo system to compensate. I have a service man coming out today. Hopefully, these problems are covered by warranty, otherwise, I will be looking at a $300 service call (estimated), and then the cost of parts. I have always liked Panasonic products, but this TV set was quite a bit of money, and I wish I had made a different choice, even if it would have cost more.

One of the best TVs.......2004-02-12

I actually ordered this TV from Amazon and used the Eagle Freight delivery. The process went surprisingly smooth considerig I have not had very good experiences with freight delivery companies. The item took a week and a half (as estimated by Amazon) and was delivered promptly at the appointed time.

First of all, as people have mentioned, this TV weighs a ton. It took three guys to bring it up to the second floor and set it on the TV stand.

The TV quality is very good. I have a Hughes E86 HD DirecTV receiver and off-the-air HD singal and you can instantly see the improvement on HD movies/shows. It was a treat watching the superbowl in HD especially the half time show. :)

I have to say though that this TV does not seem to handle non-HD programming too well. Sometimes, it looks worse than the 25" TV it replaced. However, I have not yet calibrated the TV so that could be a big part of it. The PIP is a cool feature and very easy to control including resizing, moving, freez framing, etc...

The number of AV connections are plentiful with 2 component videos, 1 digital, 4 composites. All of them with audio inputs. I used to feed all my AV signals into my Yamaha receivers but with all the connections available on the TV, I now have them all connected directly to the TV.

The remote is pretty awesome and can control pretty much all of my components. The one thing I could not get it to work was the ASPECT button. I have to navigate through the menu. I have a call in to Panasonic support. Also, the TV does not seem to remember the ASPECT ration setting. The component selection always seem to default to 16:9 even if I set it to 4:3. This may be an oversight on my part but if there is a way to keep the setting, its not very obvious.

Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the audio since I have all the audio fed into my 6.1 receiver.

Overall, its an excellent TV and certainly worth the $ especially since its few hundred $ cheaper than the equivalent Sony. The only reason for a 4 star is the issue with the screen ASPECT as mentioned.

BTW, I hear some people recommending a 16:9 HD TV over a 4:3. After having this TV for about a month now, I'm glad I got this TV. If you watch local HD channels, you'll get a good mix of HD and non-HD programming. I think for this type of viewing, 4:3 actually works out better. Of course for DVDs and HD movies, I usually change the setting to 16:9.

good until it breaks.......2003-12-10

almost any HGTV looks good....until something goes wrong. Mine is less than two years old, and the only color on the screen is now green....no red, no blue, etc. Panasonic referred me to a local "certified repair shop" so far, that has cost me $205, and the repair lasted less than one hour. They are coming back to try again. Note the only thing Panasonic will pay for after one year is a picture tube...and so far, that isn't the problem as DVDs work well and the color is good.

great TV overall, but with a few issues.......2003-10-29

I bought this TV almost exclusively for DVDs and video games, and it looks really fantastic. Both my DVD player and game console support 480p (p = progressive) and the image is crisp and clear. If you've never owned an HDTV, as was my case, the quality will astound you.

The sound coming out of the TV is quite good for built-in speakers. Also the VIVA BBE 3D sound processing mode does add a ton of depth to the output. I normally turn it off, since I'm a purist and it tends to drown out speech, but for action movies and such it does punch it up a bit.

Overall, this TV made me very happy. However, I do have a few issues that I'll outline below point by point.

HORIZONTAL "WOBBLE"
If you look closely you'll notice that the horizonatal scan lines on this TV tend to shift from left to right in a non-uniform manor. I'd best describe it as a nervous jitter, and makes the image swim. Initially I thought something was wrong with my unit, but a later inspection of the floor model revealed the same artifact.

To be honest the effect is not noticeable under normal usage. I first saw it when I was doing calibration with some THX test patterns. It's also noticeable in menus with high contrast edges. For example, the TV menu itself, or some game menus. And again, only when you're close up.

NON-PROGRESSIVE SIGNALS
I was somewhat surprised with the line doubler in this unit, as interlacing was readily apparent in 480i signals. I'm not sure how it stacks up to other built-in doublers, since I don't watch TV, but I figured it would look better.

BAD UNIT
Initially I wasn't going to mention this in my review, but the first unit I received was no good. The tube was arcing and would pop/flash every now and again. After getting a tech to look at it, my store replaced the unit no charge.

Normally something like this I'd chalk up to delivery, or mishandling from the store I purchased the TV from, but the other reviewer seemed to have similar problems. Maybe that's the case for both of us, but you never know.

These crt monitors are out of date. I give it some stars, cuz it's a Sony, and u never go wrong, w/ a Sony. Be sure to get yourself an LCD monitor, and go digital now, is advised. U don't want this 15" crt monitor.

Works great on a PowerMac G5.......2007-03-25

This card works as advertised on my Apple PowerMac G5 dual 2GHz (1st gen). I have quite an extensive collection of Firewire 800 devices for storage and this card fits the bill, giving me FireWire 800 speeds for my drives without daisy-chaning those devices. I do quite a bit of photo editing, and with the speed, I can edit and import photos at great speed.

I specifically was looking for Firewire 800 (1394b) card and thought I found one. While it seemed to work initially, my wireless connection kept crashing on me (things are normal now that I removed the card). Also the spec sheet on any seller website does not tell you that 800mps is not available until Windows XP developes a driver/patch for the hardware. I am going to try the Lacie card and hope that works better. Otherwise I'll end up sticking with my 400mps speed for the time being.

Despite Flaws, I Have Few Complaints.......2007-07-24

Despite the low ratings that other reviewers have given the Sony SRF-M80V S2, I've been pretty pleased with mine. It's lasted a few years (like the other Sony Walkmen that I've had), and this one especially took some abuse mountainbiking and continues to work wonders. The arm band's nice, but I clip mine on my biking shirt or shorts and it holds on just fine.

Are there cons? Yes, but they're minor. The headphones were replaced on the first day (they're awkward), and the FM/TV/Weather reception could be better (I listen to AM only, and that's always been great). Also, the fact that the "hold" switch does not freeze the volume is somewhat troublesome--especially since the volume dial is right next to the clip, it can turn up loud without warning.

Overall, a great radio if you can find it on the cheap.

It Works Great For Me.......2007-06-26

I've had one of these for years. I use it every morning to listen to an NPR station that is about 50 miles away. Reception has been fine virtually everytime I've used it. TV feature was handy during Wilma when my electricity was out for a couple of days.

Decent...Needs Some Improvements.......2007-02-05

I like the channel preset buttons and the stop watch feature but...I do not like the volume control. It is very sensitive and easily moved if you put the radio in a pocket or attach to your belt. I can't tell you how many times I have blasted my eardrums or turned the volume off while running. Something also went bad with the left channel, it cuts in and out, which is very annoying. Overall it's not a bad radio...Reception and sound are pretty good. I would not buy again unless the volume control was improved.

Great Product.......2006-04-18

I find this to be quite a nice product. It appears kind of large at first glance, but sits securely on the arm and is light and not bothersome. Reception is very good and importantly for me, the volume is LOUD(nice when so many walkmans are quiet for safety?). The headphone connection is a bit crackly. I hope this radio last a while.

Sony used to make better products than this.......2006-03-28

For a product designed for "sports" minded people, this radio doesn't seem to be designed sturdy enough to take that kind of usage. It's lightweight, which in theory makes it easy to take along wherever you go. And to this, it runs on two-AAA batteries, so we're not bogged down by the weight of the traditional AA batteries. That in itself is a drawback. The battery life just doesn't cut it. If you used this as an everyday item, you would certainly change batteries far more too often than you would like. The battery life is also based on what you're listening to. AM stations use less juice than FM or TV.

Although the digital tuning and the option of assignging your favorite stations is nice, the drawback is that you have a certain timeframe between changing batteries, otherwise everything is wiped from memory, meaning you also have to reset the clock, too.

I also find the reception is best either outdoors (the whole purpose of a sports radio) or places where there isn't any electronic equipment. The radio is really suspectible to interference from all sorts of devices. Otherwise you'll hear a lot of static and disrupted sounds.

The TV tuner is also a good addition, but not very handy if you live in areas where reception is poor or even still, live in one of those places where all the major stations are carried on the UHF bandwith! I'm also one of those types that have always found having weather channels on the radio a rather pointless addition. For me, it never gets used -- I always get my weather from the local news station. For others who really must know the weather wherever they go, it'll probably be an asset.

Lastly, the headphones does its job, but I've found with the thin wires, it's always getting tangled or I'm accidentally flinging the headphones off while moving around.
